lol I forgive you my child:)

work with me on the other thread to improve your game, along with your partner, you will eventually appreciate the tennis knowledge from the 10sBeast.

I have helped several 3.0/3.5 type and have made them 4.0's.... to create a pool of decent players locally so everybody can have good hits.
So does this mean you will be the first 3.0 in history to beat MEP?

you are wasting time... follow my directions on the other thread, work on your own game.

tennis is a lot more fun when played correctly... all my 3.0/3.5 students agree, wholeheartedly. you will feel the same if you follow.

right now you are just in the 'dont know what you don't know stage'. no problem.

So that means that you will accept @GSG challenge and confront perception vs reality and then post it in the forum?
I will be here to see it all :)

how about we make a bet? I make about $6k a day... considering the time wasted on this trip... if you put up 3 days worth of my cost, I can go... call it $20k... if I lose, I eat the $20k.... if I win, you cover the cost?

we can make it even more interesting.. say put a bet on it.. call it $100k?

make it interesting. I will bite.
How about we set it up as a charity match and we all chip in a few $. And keep up with the trash talking, it's good for ticket sales.

But you are semi-retired, so we can treat the three days as three days you were not working.

I'm not gonna watch the whole thing cause the five minutes I did watch was pretty awful. I dunno how blue shirt normally plays, but I'm guessing he got sucked into the MEP junk battle. Topspin backhand seems decent but what's with all the forehand slices?
When someone doesn’t you give you pace and slices a lot, you need active feet and quick footwork to move forward to the ball and hit aggressive shots back at a higher contact point. The typical rec player with lazy feet will at some point take the easy way out and start slicing himself which can be done by waiting for the ball yourself without active footwork.

If a player has the intensity and physicality to keep their feet active throughout a match, they can play a different style, but if they get bored/upset and/or fatigued, they will suddenly find themselves playing like their slow-hitting, slicing opponent and likely not win the battle.

Or you need to be good at hitting aggressive shots off a lower contact point but the average rec player is absolutely terrible at that.

That is 100 % correct, although I didn't watch the video I am pretty confident, although out of curiosity what did Ian claim?
I remembered some of those MEP vs. Essential tennis videos.
I can understand the need for YT contents reasons, but I think they mentioned that MEP was travelling long hours/journey to get to wherever the ET people were, then he played some other people first, the Ian last. I thought MEP would have given Ian a good run for his money if MEP was freshly tested the next day and played Ian as his first match of the day…. But hey, YT contents matters. lol.

I liked Ian - Mep video
It seemed for a good plan, how to play against no pace incoming balls - attak the net
Mep looked for me helples against Ian's attaks
I did not know, Mep is very tired...

One random thought I had was a lot of team USTA players who are singles rocks avoid all competition to preserve their rating (or lose on purpose to preserve it)
so there are these armies of 4.5 players just hiding out (some at 4.0 too), but then it leads to a discussion about what is a real 4.5 or 4.0 player, and the NTRP rating becomes a group with a very high top and low bottom.
Those guys aren't true 4.5. They are stronger 4.0 with holes in their game. This guy is a like a gatekeeper and sniffs them out. .

I thought you were semi retired and can travel anytime as Altanta is 'an easy reach' ;)

Alternately, why not post recent match play and we'll make the comparison.

To me, winning is everything.

good for you.. but if winning is "everything" then probably idolizing a guy that is just a 4.5 with an unbreakable self-made celing above him is not the right move.. unless you mean "winning against 4 level players is everything" and if that's the case then carry on.

What a great find.

I also like her imbalanced leg side kick on serve
niculescu also hits a slice fh... i recall listening to an interview with other wta players, and one of them mentioned, they'd rather hit to niculescu's bh, because it gives them pace and rhythm.

the closest i could find on the atp side (eg. folks that rely on slice)
is santoro...
but obviously guys like fed & feliciano lopez relies heavily on slice.

Fed hits so many attacking, knifing slices though, or droppers, rather than what I think MEP-style players are aiming for.

Who are the players that run everything down and play the fewest attacking shots? That to me is the MEP method. de Minaur, Gilles Simon, Ferrer, Chang, Barty come to mind.

I feel the same way that the most efficient style to win is the most fun style to play in a particular match. I play every day in my mid-fifties and I am not going to try to prolong matches - find an opponent‘s weaknesses and if exploiting them is within my capabilities, execute that game plan relentlessly.

If an opponent can’t move up/down well, doesn’t like low balls and has lower shot tolerance than me, then moving the ball around with variety including a lot of slice is very efficient. I don’t think hitting a slice shot that works to win the point is any less fun than blasting a topspin shot as in either case you can force an error or hit a winner depending on how good your shot and target are - especially if you can vary the pace/depth of the slice and can hit driving slices. Apart from winning points, only hitting aces gives me a slight extra buzz on the court.
