MEP vs ET Players - Original TT Epic

These YT matches started out as something very interesting and exciting. It has become very mundane and redundant. I can’t even figure out who won the GSG vs Sean match. This is extreme over kill. I’ll tune in again in a few months and maybe watch the matches and FF past the player commentary and any other long winded commentary. Speaking for myself of course.

Why do Ian and his co-host have to comment during and/or after every point/game? They also talk over each other.
Most of the stuff is very obvious. "Didn't get low enough, missed a step, framed the ball".
Let us watch the match, then put the comments at the end or make an 'analysis' video.
Is it just me or is it mega annoying to watch the match with the commentary...?

I find it interesting: since tennis is a solo sport [excepting doubles, of course], you're out there by yourself. It can be helpful, especially for lower-level players, to hear the thought process of the competitors and realize that they think the same things. It's problem-solving in real-time. Maybe it helps them identify.

Ah, OK. I caught myself as I was replying, wondering if you were talking about one or the other.

But I think their commentary has value also. For example, Ian and Topher were analyzing Sean's game and the momentum flows and how they thought it was the right strategy to be intelligently aggressive and I thought those were insightful.

Also, different commentators notice different things.

Again, their target audience is the rec player and the sweet spot is 3.0 - 4.0, players who might very well benefit from such insight. 5.0s likely would not but how many 5.0s watch ET?

I'm not sure if you are already doing what I'm doing but just tune into Tennis Troll instead he gets the matches up quickly and they are great I never have complaints after watching...you are honestly going to need to wait at least another 6 week's to see the last match on et

I have never waited so patiently for a video which I have to fast forward 2 minutes in, because the sport presented is unwatchable.

Maybe a 4.0 in rating only....but probably will get bumped. I think matchup is important here as well. While he admits net play isn't his strength, Sean seems certainly capable up there and is executing well. He is playing with an aggressive mindset which is what you need against MEP. I'm sure the fast indoor court is also contributing to his success thus far. It will be interesting when these guys travel down to Atlanta on the slower courts in the humidity, will undoubtedly be much tougher for them.

I think he is a "professional" 4.0. Someone who is more than a 4.0 and incorporates plenty of tennis, including instruction, in his life. Most 4.0s don't immerse themselves in tennis like these ET guys.

I did the same - unreal that they are dragging this out for so long. I unsubscribed from the channel. Just too much. I admire GSG, but prefer the tennis troll approach.

Ian likes to think he is redefining online tennis and pushing the boundaries, all grand claims and ideas. I don't see it that way, just a channel that drags content on and on, uses multiple cameras and mics and thinks it's pushing the boundaries in online tennis content. They can learn a thing or two from the superb way tennis troll does their videos. It's safe to bet Ian won't change his ways much, he's not one that takes criticism well, he'll just do a 1 hour livestream titled "Am I milking MEP?" and guys like fiddlerdog will go on his comment section and say "we love you Ian, don't listen to the haters, you make the best content on youtube" and everything will be back to square one.

I'm bit skeptical that everything will be back to square one - I think the horse has left the barn - the folks are finding the rollout pace very boring and nauseating and moving on. It's one thing to build up interest before introducing the show, but if you keep interrupting once it starts, you can see folks packing up.
What can ET do now? Cut the fat from each vid and release couple of matches per week without constant breaks, else risk further alienating the viewers.

I’m pretty sure I know Sean and have played him a few times a couple years ago and at that time he was a 4.0, but that depends on what league he played in. The Gladiator league we played in does not match USTA ratings, in that league we were playing 4.5 but it was more like a 4.0 USTA.

Some do care to go and complain - the vocal minority. The vast majority vote by their feet and pack up silently. And this is no exception. It's easy to verify the theory- I'm expecting the view count on future vids to decrease dramatically.

Don't be daft. What ET is doing is the equivalent of playing part of an episode, not even the whole thing. Nothing wrong with matches being released separately, but they are being released in parts of matches.

tennis troll has a very simple editing style, similar to my own tennis vids.

a 90 min match takes me about 90 minutes to edit. Troll puts a bit more effort than I do, so I’m guessing a 90 min match takes him about 105 min to edit.

I appreciate the presentation as well. I also like the comments from the players during changeovers. What I do not appreciate is the cliffhanger at 5-5 in each set.

I wasn't sure about either hence why I was asking about it. Now that you say that it's even more impressive what Tennis Troll is producing, someone in his comments said it's a phone taped to the back fence yikes!

Sean is a good player but in the indoor club leagues he plays on the 4.0 team. I’ve watched the indoor winter league 4.5 players and neither MEP or Sean would have a chance against them it would be 2 and 2 if they were lucky to do that well. So it’s hard to believe that MEP is beating 4.5 level players and if he is it doesn’t say much for Atlanta 4.5 players.

How did you do against Sean a couple if years ago?

I beat him the last time we played, it was close we split sets and I beat him 10-7 in a 10 point tie break. I’ve played him 3 times total and went 2-1 against him. But that was a few years back and Sean has improved some since then so he would probably beat me now.

Really what 4.5 league are you talking about, because at the club I play the 4.5 singles guy would destroy Sean, and would totally wreck MEP.

Two parts is arguably acceptable. But splitting it into three parts is stretching it. Was expecting to see the second and third sets in Part II.

Now it loses some of the drama for me.
Part II does not even show the full second set. They cut it off at 5-4.

It would be much more dramatic to present it all in Part II. Or at least the second set.

Maybe this is a hint that Sean closed it out in the second set.
