MEP vs MEP clone !!!

Well in the sense as it might not "look" like 4.5 tennis but it beats 4.5 players all the way up to strong 4.5s borderline 5.0s. That well.
Did you read what I wrote? I never said he would beat 5.0s. I said his level is 8.37 UTR which is high 4.5/5.0 (see below) and 5.0s would have an easier time (winning) rather than 4.5s against him.
Playing close and not winning is also an indicator of level. That's how UTR works in the first place.
The 'woman that beat him' got baged second set no? She won in a match tie-break. There was no third set. I hardly call that a 'crush'.
Why would I take that bet? A 10-10.5 UTR against a 8.5? That's like Djokovic vs. some top D1 college kid 13 UTR. He would destroy him. Who would take that bet?

I see little evidence he can win more often then not against 4.5s. We have been watching him on tennis troll channel now and he LOST TO

TennisTroll, Old 50 year old, US Open John, an 18 year old female baseliner, - and he beat NYC 4.5. I lived in NYC. 4.5's there are badly out of practice because the weather sucks and its hard to play a lot with regards to court availability. Yes it is impressive that he beats some 4.5s as a 4.5. But it seems that no matter how often he loses - and who he loses to - he has this persistent fan club that overrates his play. He is not going to challenge 5.0s. UTR is just not that accurate..

In fact when I point this out I get accused of bashing the guy. The guy is very good at tennis with awful technique. Kudos to him. But it would not be fun watching him get beat down by the better players at 4.5 - never mind actual 5.0s. There are couple guys on TennisTroll channel that would beat him 6-1, 6-2 on a regular basis, IMHO.

It reminds me of the first Rocky Movie. Despite what people think - Rocky LOST in the first movie. LMAO. MEP made his legend off a LOSS to tennis troll. TennisTroll IMHO is a pretty standard 4.5. Good skills - lacks a bit of power off the ground - decent speed and solid (but not awesome serve). MEP is like the Rocky of tennis.. But here is the truth Mike Tyson would have beat the lights out of Stallone.. Real life is not a movie. And you ain't beating 5.0s with a 3.0 push serve.

I don’t understand how you downplay GSG. He’s more famous than most ATP players outside of top 100 for a reason lol.
He hardly ever makes an unforced error and he gets to 99% of balls!
He’s definitely some special player, not just a 4.5.

I don't blame you for thinking that based on what's been posted on the channel. For whatever reason, my W-L record in TennisTroll matches is significantly worse than in any other arena- it's actually become a running joke between Troll and me whenever he tries to set up a new match. I half-jokingly suggested to him that instead of arranging matches, he just shoot/post my USTA matches to really mess with peoples' perceptions.

Well, that happens, your run through 5 matches may be anything from 5-0 to 0-5, if it’s a competitive field. Having USTA record to backup your competence and to feed your confidence is very legit.

Where did you look for evidence? Did you read the bio under the video?

MEP was 7-1 in singles competition in the USTA 4.5 Atlanta league for 2020 and 2-0 in 2021. In 2019 MEP was 7-4. He also won the Fall 2020 Ultimate 6.0- league (equivalent to USTA 4.5) for the second time. He went 5-2 in regular season and 5-0 in the playoffs. MEP played USTA 4.5 league in both Atlanta and Virginia. He also reached the final of a 300 points USTA 4.5 Championship tournament in Virginia by defeating the #1 and #3 seeds in the second and third rounds. Green shirt played in the 3.5 league in 2012, 4.0 in 2014, and 4.5 since 2015.

Do you think that is because people game plan for you since they "know" who you are because of the channel? I remember you saying that the more someone plays against you, the better they do against you.

I think it's telling that in all of the losses* (NYC 4.5, 50 YO Guy, D1 Recruit) they had all seen me play before our match (or at least had that opportunity) whereas I had never seen any of them play. Despite what I said about opponents doing better in subsequent matches, I beat NYC 4.5 in the rematch and I think my odds of winning would be better in 2 out of 3 sets matches against both 50 YO Guy and D1 Recruit than in tiebreakers. So maybe I need to amend my previous statement :)

*I'm not counting the match with Troll as a loss, since he himself has told me he considers it a draw at this point. We have a tentative plan to finish the match on the one-year anniversary of when we started it

Don't look at the aesthetics of GSG's shots. Look at the placement and number of unforced errors vs opponents.
Short, low slice shots are not always easy to attack for 4.0 & 4.5 players.

btw, do have a video of you playing tennis or competing?
If you do post it here:

I meant to say I’m confident that MEP can challenge Max.
Oh  (y) :p

It's much more fun goading on others to play. Hehehe.

This last weekend a woman friend out of the blue challenged me. No handicaps, no advantages to boost. She caused a lot of oooh aahh's from the guys and many of them pulled their chair close to watch!

Fortunately my skill and experience carried me thru. Beat her 6-2. Would have been embarrassed to lose. I think. I dunno. Tennis drama is fun.

This totally hurts you IMHO. In league you run into guys who you never played before - and they are not used to playing hustle oriented guys with unorthodox strokes.

Now as a the #1 tennis celebrity in the world (that's not a pro) everyone is gunning for you. US Open John obviously had a plan.
They have videos to reference for how to beat you. You need to get some merch bro - get yourself some t-shirts - maybe a gofundme page if you don't have one already.. :p Sell them on the tennis troll channel.

Tennis Troll has improved some - going to be super tough to beat him now. He moves very well and has all the strokes - plus his serve now has more pop. The old guy win was the big upset.. Guy has tons of skill but is totally outclassed athlete wise but he pulled out the victory. I would have bet against him.

Lol MEP does look hard to beat. He's gonna make it a grind. I'd say best tactic (if you dont wanna get super fit and make it a war of attrition) is go for depth and clean hitting on any short ball on the physical side. With the mental side being the mentality of "this guy is an ideal metaphorical tennis punching bag" and work on being consistently aggressive.

I think most players lose mentally to this guy trying to go for too much when they see he's fitter and gonna win the attrition war.

I'd also be standing inside the baseline and trying to pounce on all his serves so he coughs up short balls

But also, if you can, bomb serves and be aggressive on the return and he'll cough up short balls. And in rallies go for it when it's there. Should be the tactic always for an aggressive baseline, no?

I think MEP is playing at AO right now, at Ron Laver area. It could be Hsieh. I'm not sure. :) he/she is playing that hard hitting opponent, and doing as expected - driving that opponent crazy...

There serves are somewhat similar. Hsieh has a lot more variety and is a good doubles player and volleyer.

She's is one of the top 5 doubles players in the WTA.

I m a bit of an MEP clone. Not as good as MEP in rallies but stronger serve. And I can tell you I play a couple of guys who r better junkballers than me and it's crazy making. Even though I know the style well it sucks u in and you end up overhitting. I think they ve maximised their ugly shots until it's become intentional. I play this heckuva nice guy Ash. His BH is a hole in your mind. Slicey, all arm and wrist and if he wants more power he jumps up like a dog that's happy to see you. Hitting hard into it is like charging razor wire. It will drift back lazily into the ad corner or skid through short and low or the worst one wobble just over the net as an accidental drop shot. Looks totally improbable but good eyes and timing he can do it again and again

How are they at running down drop shots? Dealing with deliberately short balls? Heavier TS? S&V?

In other words, what have you done to solve the problem, what have the results been, and how have you incorporated that info into your next attempt?

I played a junk baller last Thursday in league who chased everything down.

Instantly he made me play worse, it was hard to hit a winner because there was no pace on the ball

And it was on these skidding artificial clay courts

And super windy

Just about tore my hair out after he broke me in the first game

I was hyper aware every topspin shot that I hit carried more risk of error than his dinky slices.

In the end I won 6-3 by trying to peel the game back to the fundamentals: only go for it on easy to attack balls. Add lots of margin to my topspin shots since he couldn't hurt me anyway, as long as I kept it deep. And slice him back for anything awkward/ high risk. And compete / focus on every ball, trying to win every game

I guess modified fundamentals, they were modified a lot safer than my usual game style.

Even though I won, I felt disgusted :X3:  o_O
