Mets fans are the worst and the players finally let them know

No one in Chicago would ever boo a player that helped win their 2016 title with good reason, but that made Baez soft AF. He's been able to get away with awful play in the North Side for the last few years now because of the good graces of the indebted Cubs fans. But he didn't do anything for the Mets fans. They don't give a crap that he ended some drought 5 years ago. They care what he does for their team today. Which is nothing! Same goes for Lindor. They don't care that he was an MVP caliber player in Cleveland. They're paying him for what he's supposed to be doing now. They're paying their hard earned money to go watch this team of horrifically underachieving millionaires and they're letting them know how they feel about it. They've dropped 14 games in the standings in a month.

Not to mention Baez said he would like to re-sign with Chicago like 3 days after getting traded to New York. So the fans should give him the same 'courtesy' he has given them.

Mets fans are in the right here to me. Lindor was a 341 million dollar contract o_O

I was still a defender of the Lindor deal until very recently too. I thought people were jumping the gun way too early on him. I wanted to cut him some slack heading to a new team with all that pressure, plus switching leagues and having to adjust to all these new pitchers you've never seen.

But it's almost September now. And considering he already had a down year last year, it's starting to add up into full blown regression. 2019 was worse than his 2018. 2020 was worse than his 2019. And now 2021 was worse than his 2020. It was easy to wave away last year because a lot of guys had strange seasons in that 60 game sample during COVID. But he's had time now. He's batting .233 in this last month where they've dropped completely out of playoff position, which is only good in comparison to his overall season number of .224. And this dude has the audacity to try and get back at the fans while they're flailing in the standings???

Imagine not booing

The Mets fans should be booing them though. They're a disgrace. They've got a bankroll almost as big as the Yankees and are in the worst division in baseball and still under .500.
I don't think either are wrong to be honest. I don't boo in general. I am not from the early 1900s. However, if you play bad I get it, but it is funny when the players clap back.

I can agree with that. Anyone that sticks by the Mets deserves respect - that team tortures those fans. And all year they kept saying not to worry not to worry they're in first etc etc. Then had this terrible month. Granted the schedule was tough. But it's hard to excuse the schedule when that division is so bad.

They got booted out of 1st place before the tough schedule began. They dropped 3 outta 4 to the Marlins and then got swept by the Phillies before that LA/SF trip.

The Braves & Phillies spotted the Mets a 4 month head start and they still couldn't hold on to the division.

Met fans suffer a particularly painful form of PTSD every time the team leaves double-digits runners on base for the game --- and this happens a lot! Our pain is only heightened when all of this coincides with a Yankees win streak.

OP is a clown and gets two thumbs down for this dumb thread. We’ve played 83% of the season and the third highest paid player in baseball has played like the third worst. The strikeout machine hasn’t done anything to warrant cheers since he got here. Worst plate discipline in the league by far. Dom Smith said he would start hitting when it counts. Hey buddy youre 8 games back maybe time to start trying. Pete Alonso plugs his ears and says everything is ok while the world burns around him. The offense is an absolute joke and they should be booed. I went to the second game of the double header against the Brewers about six weeks ago. Down 3 bases loaded Lindor Smith Alonso coming up no outs. All three strikeout against some middling reliever. Now these participation trophy losers want me to cheer for them when they suck and have all year? No thanks.

Turns out you’re more Philadelphia than you’d like to admit
