And much like Bendwinka every time he's in Fed's section.

Besides, Troicki at least showed some balls against Nole at US open unlike Spaniards/Bendwinka..

This is true it is odd how Stan loses in his first match once he's on the opposite side of the draw as Fed - ATP conspiracy slowly being uncovered by TTW.

Those linesman were terrible. Troicki would have won the first set 6-4 if it wasn't for the overrule wich was clearly out shown in the reply.

LOL. I'm not sure how much intellectual property protection there is a for a duck salute gesture. :)

(Also, AFAIK you run into international conflict of laws problems even assuming protection, but I'll stop there before I put you to sleep. :-D )

duck salute ... good one!

I always wondered how a gesture could be trademarked ... didnt it used to be an old military salute from some country?

p.s. not boring a bit ... if you know more, tell more! :D

Heh. Just off the top of my head, think about it -- Viktor is from Serbia, and Lleyton is Australian, so if Lleyton "registered" his gesture under whatever protection Australia offers (anyone interested would have to research it, but I'm highly skeptical, LOL) there'd be a question of whether that protection extended to its use on the courts of another country altogether (USA).

As my mama would say, "Don't start me to lying." I thought it was Youzhny that did the military salute with his racquet on his head (b/c his father was an army colonel?). Clearly, talking out of the side of my neck on that one, with very few facts. LOL.

P.S. I've only skimmed this main match thread, but I didn't see anyone thank you for putting it up. (Savages, LOL.)
So thank you very much for putting it up -- especially since, IIRC, you're putting in some extra hours at a new work gig?

You're in Miami? You lucky thing! Enjoy yourself for all of us!!

Yeah, Nole is ... IDK. I guess that's why he got a new case for his racquets; he thinks they're weapons of mass destruction.

I'm psychic hotline predicting that since the match is on Stadium Court, then it w/b streamed and we can see it that way ... believe me, if I were in Miami, I'd definitely let you know! :)

Novak's starting to remind me of Rafa's CC invincibility last year, just unbeatable!

Haha! Maybe we should look into going next year, if we can get the vacay time. I looked at the Silver & Bronze packages; they're not *that* prohibitive, comparatively speaking, if I read correctly how costs can be split.

Also, congratulations to Kimmie for winning her 500th match today!

That's it ... thx, fundrazer! :) ... strange story ...

"THE player who introduced the famous "vicht" salute to world tennis is outraged that Lleyton Hewitt has adopted the trademark and stands to make millions of dollars from it.

The former Wimbledon champion is understood to have bought the rights to the distinctive celebratory gesture after former Swedish pro Niclas Kroon inadvertently let it lapse.

Kroon, 41, along with former No.1 Mats Wilander, held the rights from 1988 and often used the signal whenever they won a point or game.

Broadly meaning "for sure", it is now widely used by athletes from other sports, including swimmer Grant Hackett. ..."

History of "The Vicht"

(notice how the title has that little "TM" after it!

0328mon002.jpg

The Vicht is a congratulatory hand-gesture created by former ATP, Association of Tennis Professionals, touring pro Niclas Kroon used to celebrate his on-court exploits. Kroon started delivering "vichts" as a kid growing up in Sweden. The word "Vicht" is a bad pronunciation of the Swedish word that means "for sure". Kroon used the Vicht throughout his career but it became visible to the most of the world when tennis legend Mats Wilander used it repeatedly during the Australian Open one year. Since then it has been unfurled by athletes from all over the globe from the grass courts of Wimbledon, the soccer fields "Down Under" and swimming pools in several countries.

Woz is having a typical Woz v. Talented Big Hitter match.

If she wins, she'll be lauded as a genius for her consistency and smart tactics in this era of brainless bashers.

Is she loses, she'll be condemned as a frail player, undeserving of her ranking, who doesn't have the requisite "big weapon" to win the most important matches on the biggest stages.

Dear me... my two favourite players.

divided loyalties always a dilemma ... fun to watch both, but not fun to see one get beat

magro seemed to implode today (40 ue), but you can be sure Berdy won't be so accommodating, right? don't you expect Tomas to win that meeting? :?:

I can't believe Mirka let Roger go out in that shirt (tacky)! BTW instead of a karaoke contest at the French Open let's have a dance contest-Petkovic and L. Lacko against everyone else. :)

Yes, Tomas should win but Flo can get anyone out of their rhythm with his unusual style. .. I don't know if I bear to watch the match though... :-?

Bartoli is such an enigma. She's fully capable of winning matches against top players, regardless of her unorthodox style. She really can dicatate play and if she's "on", she's dangerous.

But, as soon as she gets momentum going, as soon as we might think she's going to be someone to contend with on a semi-consistent basis, her results go in reverse.

She's patchy, just like most women's players today.

I'm not surprised she's doing well against Vera. I also won't be surprised if she goes on to win 6-2, 6-3, or goes on to lose 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

I think Roger'll only meet the Berdman if Rafa doesn't beat him.

Yeah. I feel you on that one. Sasha will play Rafa if he pulls the "upset" (and of course if Feli doesn't), and Ferru may meet Polito soon.
