Federer has won their last 6 matches and Berdych hasn't won a set against a Big 4 player since MC 2015.

Will Fed decimate Berdych again like last time after he played a relatively poor match before meeting Birdman?

Tough match.

If federer tries to outgun birdman on a slow hard court, he will lose....

if he slices and varies his shots, he should win. not convinced he will do this - expect him to try and outgun birdman...

Hopefully the RBA match will be a wake-up call. It's gonna be a close one, especially at Slowami where Berdych has beaten Fed before.

Fed should be fresh enough after a day's rest. Here's hoping Fed decimating Berd in 2. :p

Fed has not played well his last two matches but he's managing to find a way to win. He'll beat Berdych, but I think it might go three and be close. Roger's serve has gone AWOL this whole tournament.

IDK. I know it seems NID but I feel like Roger can't keep going indefinitely and his epic start to the season is going to catch up soon. That said, Berdych will try hard to choke regardless and usually folds for the top guys.

I'm actually happy that Fed was pushed by RBA so hard because he's probably gonna be up for this match a lot more.

Fed should be in a "give it his all" mentality because he won't play for another 2 months.

6-3 7-5
Berd poop looked pretty sharp against Manny today; Fed not so much. Won't be the romp at Auz Open, but still Fed in 2 sets; Bendych will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory if necessary to get it done.

It's 4 years since Berdych last beat Federer (2013 Dubai). Fed has won their last 6 meetings, 5 of them in straights and the most recent at the AO a couple of months ago. Unless Fed has a seriously bad day, it's difficult to see there being any change to this recent pattern.

Indian Wells 2015
WTF 2015
AO 2016...

All slow courts (at the time), all straight sets... But if Fed ''tries to outgun birdman on a slow hardcourt, he will lose...''

WTF is a faster court..AO is also faster than Miami.

Federer can outgun birdman on the faster surfaces..it becomes a toss up on slower hard courts. But fed can beat him if he uses his slice smartly.

Depends on the recovery of Federer. If the rest day does wonders and Federer feels fresh, then it will be an easy 2 set win, which he needs to win the tournament. However, I think Federer is starting to feel the fatigue, which is not a good sign.

I thought he looked more cranky today than he did fatigued. Think he was annoyed at letting RBA hang around so much.
I didn't notice any fatigue either. Let's not act paranoid here, the match didn't even last 2 hours and he's got a day off too.

The only way this match is gonna be super close with a possible upset is if Berdych plays with the belief he had against Fed in 2010-2013. In this case it's a 50-50 call, other than that it's an easy win for Fed.

actually berd has got most of his wins on faster courts vs fed - wim 10, USO 12, cincy 10 , dubai 13, oly 04 (medium IIRC)

only win on a slow court was miami 10 ( where fed had MPs )

I don't think Fed likes Birdman and vice versa. Especially, after that 2010 Wimbledon when Fed tried to be too smart and blamed his back rather give credit to the later. But the problem with Birdman is that he remembers first and primary duty over everything else: FOLD. Anyways, Birdy always showed his helplessness when it comes to the Big 3. However, if Fed has problem with the return game, needs to be seen how much Birdy would be able to exploit it.

Definitely not true now. 2010 Wimbledon loss surely made Fed very bitter but I think there's a lot of respect between these 2 now. Berdych congratulated Fed right after the latter won #18 and was also seen with him just before Dubai in Prague for the Laver Cup thing.

So, you rooting for the Berdman :D

This!

I think he expected to put away RBA with more ease than proved to be the case. He got a bit lucky that RBA choked when serving for the 1st set but still wouldn't lie down for him in the 2nd. IMO his expression was more one of irritation than anything else.

Fed is going to flip a switch tomorrow against Berdy and win in straights. He will probably get a W/O win over Kygrios like last tourney and get a bye into the final.

Thomas may pull off an upset here. Roger looks like he has little left in the tank while Berdych played pretty well in the earlier rounds. Hope I am wrong tough...

I am not worried about this match despite Federer not looking good vs Bautista Agut. Berdych has not looked good in 2017 and even had shocking loses so Federer in 2 sets is my call, 3 sets if he doesn't play well.

I think Berdych will put massive pressure onto Federer's 2nd serve and he'll reliably punish Federer for any short balls, which he'll extract plenty of on this court, with his easy power and ability to still penetrate the molasses conditions. Federer must serve well.

yes but also..fed has brutalized berd on faster courts too ;)

i just think as fed ages, he has less chances to hit through berd on a slow court, and his movement is not advantage it used to be againist berdych.

federer can obviously win but i think his chances are less...
