We'll either see a Sinner sunshine double or a Carlos backlash, I do fear for Carlos's fitness a little . Whether that's a wee bit of burn out or a leg issue that some have alluded to, so I'm leaning towards Sinner winning it.

you mean, no value for clay titles? After all, titles are titles doesn't matter from what surface they are coming in...
Carlos has MC title, Barcelona runner up, and Rome championship points to defend.

Spending two weeks in Miami probably not ideal.
It won’t shock me to see sinner skip MC or Madrid either.

Carlos has a lot of ties to Miami, I dont think he pulls out of that tournament unless he absolutely has to.

He is the ATP face for Itaú in Brazil (signed before Fonseca showed up), and Itaú is the main sponsor of the tournament.
Not saying he wouldn't drop out because of this, but I think it's more likely he plays.

I'm guessing he'll look forward to it. As with the Sinner match, F does not need to win.

100% he’ll be buzzing for it if gets through 1st round tie. He’s waited a wee while to get these matches with the top 2, he’ll be desperate to impress again like he did vs sinner. If he is at that kind of level still, we’ll be in for an absolute cracker.

Agreed..

Hasn't Marozsan done that before to tiny?
He’s a tricky player. He can play above his level and with the best at times.
To me, it feels like he’s someone even the top guys don’t entirely like seeing early bc he can up his game….obviously he’s inconsistent hence why he’s in that 40-55 range usually. But tricky.

Alcaraz might be quite motivated not only to pick up some points here, but also to stop Sinner from getting another 1000 points. Carlos has a lot of points to defend in the clay court season and not many that he can gain, so being 2000+ points ahead of Jannik entering the clay season would increase his chance of maintaining the #1 ranking ahead of RG.

Easy pickings @Hitman Sinner is breaking the sunshine double curse to amass the lost points from the AO. It’s gonna be a fight for the world number 1 this year.

I've been keeping my powder dry about how this season is going to go until now, I feel like we (tennis fans in general) have went way over the top with the start of the seasons Carlos and Jannik have had. It's the middle of March and so many folk had decided Carlos would win everything and Jannik would win nothing. If Jannik completes the sunshine double I think we will see a very competitive season between them. I do also think this will be the least we actually see them play each other for a wee while too, the field has closed the gap on them a bit and they are going to have to both work harder to get to finals all year.

This tournament could have a big impact on who will be #1 after the clay-court season.

If Alcaraz wins, even if Sinner reaches the final, the two will be basically equal on points once the clay results are removed. Given that Carlos has the better record on clay, he would have a decent chance of holding on to the #1 ranking.

On the other hand, should Sinner win, the difference in points will be less than 2000 points. With Alcaraz defending MC, this means that the #1 ranking would be on the line already at Monte Carlo.

(I still think the most realistic scenario is that it comes down to RG: If one of them wins there, he will be #1 the week after. But if Carlos loses early in Miami, it may be hard for him to stay in the top spot, even if he defends most of his points from the clay season.)

Are you kidding me? Everyone even remotely dangerous, minus Fonz, is in the bottom half
That’s plain wrong. Sinner fans always pick like one round he could have that’s potentially more challenging than Alcaraz and focus on that ignoring every other round that’s almost always worse for Carlos.

The only round Sinner has it worse than Alcaraz here is the semifinal because he drew Medvedev instead of Musetti, and even then he’s 4-0 against Medvedev and 6-0 against Zverev in their last matches so matchup wise he doesn’t face more danger than Alcaraz with Musetti.
