So it comes down to this.
The 64-Year History of the Miami Hurricanes-Florida State Seminoles Tennis Rivalry
Canes have a huge lead but it's been a lot closer since the 80s. Hopefully the Canes can add another win on Saturday.
you can do it
the ole miss rebels also ve done it!
Senior Day tomorrow! Hoping the seniors can finish with a bang!
Florida State at Miami underway after a 30-min rain delay. But don't bother with Live Stats. Still stuck on April 4.
They are posting scores now, but the names are still from April 4. Classic.
Those are scores from the Duke match. lol
Now I remember: They stopped updating midway through the doubles against Duke, which makes it look like real scores at the moment. Even more impressive.
First they send me this tweet.
But now the live scores are up. LIVE STATS
Miami goes down to Florida State. That pretty much finishes their season as well. The ACC tourney and that'll be it. No NCAAs for the third consecutive year.
Good effort today from Tsukamoto in a match he probably should have been out-classed in. Tough for Gonzalez to drop that 2nd set.
Miami never worked as a cohesive unit this season. At one point they had decent depth but the top guys struggled, now to end the year the top players are playing pretty well but the depth isn't there anymore.
Canes ladies defeat No. 9 Virginia and earn a share of first place in the ACC for the regular season.
Great article on Coach Rincon. Although you'd never guess that the team is far, far away from the top ten now and will probably miss the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive time. First time this has ever happened at Miami. Still, a nice all-positive-no-negative article on the coach.
A Home Away From Home
Noles take doubles point. Never trailed in all three matches.
My take on the article and the touting of the 2014 recruiting class that is also on the page is that Mario Rincon might be feeling the pressure, so let's put out a couple of puff pieces.
No argument there, but he's got a couple if interesting recruits coming in next year so maybe he can turn this thing around.
Noles win all six first sets of the singles matches. Albanese goes down 1 and 1. Noles leading 2-0 at the moment.
Aly goes down 1 and 4. Noles lead 3-0. But the other four are still close.
Flores vs. Gonzalez 4-6, 6-3, 0-1
Soto vs. Nunez 2-6, 7-5
Gonzales vs. 4-6, 5-4
Tsukamoto vs. Rinaldi 3-6. 6-1, 1-2
Flores vs. Gonzalez 4-6, 6-3, 2-3
Soto vs. Nunez 2-6, 7-5, 2-2
Gonzales vs. 4-6, 7-5, 0-1
Tsukamoto vs. Rinaldi 3-6. 6-1, 3-4
Canes have to win all four.
Is everyone on serve? Miami not out of it yet
Knowing who is serving is not a luxury us college tennis fans are allowed. The concept of showing who is serving has not occurred to those doing the live scoreboards.
Flores vs. Gonzalez 4-6, 6-3, 5-4
Soto vs. Nunez 2-6, 7-5, 4-5
Gonzales vs. 4-6, 7-5, 3-2
Tsukamoto vs. Rinaldi 3-6. 6-1, 6-6
Soto loses 6-4 and thats that. Season ends.
A bit too optimistic. Should say how it is instead of saying that.
if miami gets in ..sth is wrong in the system...sorry no offense to all the canes out there
Canes ladies taking on Notre Dame today. As bad as the Canes men are, the Canes women are good.
While the men are returning to Miami after their one night stay in Cary, the women are looking good against Notre Dame with the doubles point and 3 of 4 first sets in the singles and a chance to win two more.
The Canes ladies finished off the Irish 4-2 yesterday and will face #3 Virginia today in the ACC semifinals. Live Scoring
Miami needs to be better .
Miami blown off the courts today. This was probably their worst loss of the year. When I checked the live scoring, I thought I was looking at the men's team's scores by mistake. Oh well, On to the NCAAs.
I was a bit hard on them at times during the last few years but though they didn't produce the results we hoped for, Aly, Flores and Soto represented The U well. Never met them myself but everyone tells me they a great bunch of guys. Good luck to them in their future.
The Canes ladies team was seeded 12th and will host first two rounds. They'll play Boston University in the first round and then the winner of Oklahoma-Wichita state. If the get thru that, They'll probably face No. 2 UCLA. Gonna be tough.
when will Miami get a new coach?
Rincon isn't going anywhere yet.
Make that five different coaches that this punk poster came online to trash in one evening.
Great! Another troll! He can join chris-swede and the others on a forum somewhere.
Team missed out on the NCAAs again but Omar Aly was named to the ACC Second Team and he is the 8th Alternate for the NCAA singles. Doubt he will play but the best showing a Cane gave in a couple years.
Very bad news for the Canes ladies as they prepare for the NCAA Championships. They just suspended their No. 2 player, 66th-ranked Kelsey Laurente for whatever reason.
I saw on Tennis channel.... Martina Navratilova doing instructional series for Miami Hurricane women. I wonder if Martina is interested in coaching them or being assistance Coach for them ???
Could make for a close second round match. Was that after line ups had been submitted ?
Not sure which came first. But they pulled it out today against No. 18 Oklahoma. The Sooners had a match point to take the doubles point but they hung in there and came back. They took the singles pretty easily. But now here comes one of my Axis of Evil teams, the UCLA Brooins. Gonna be tough to get through that one.
Any word on why kelsey was suspended? Thats a tough loss for the canes. Made a huge impact in the round of sixteen.
No, nothing. The school will not announce things like that. I'd like to know too though. It must have been pretty bad to have been suspended right before the NCAAs.
I am not trashing, I am giving my opinion on how the athletics director should run his university
Former Canes have left their mark on Wimbledon history!
Greatest Miami Hurricanes at Wimbledon
On the women's side, I saw a couple days ago that Kelsey Laurente transferred to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. She was suspended for an unknown reason right before the NCAA tournament (must have been pretty bad) so this news surprises no one. It's gonna hurt though, because Laurente was ranked as high as No. 33 in the country last year and was a solid No. 2, sometimes No. 1 in the lineup.
With Laurente leaving, the roster is at five. The bare minimum needed for dual team play is six. So what happen now? The school just announced that they have five freshmen signed for next year. There is blue-chip and No. 5 Yolimar Ogando from Puerto Rico, Judith Bohnenkamp from Germany, Silvia Fuentes from Spain, Sinead Lohan from Ireland and Wendy Zhang from Canada. Hard to say what kind of team we will have next year on the women's side. Could go either way.
If you're looking for an international team, look no further. We have players from Brazil, Latvia, Germany (2), Spain, Canada, Ireland, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico. Wow.
Laurente Transfers, Five Freshmen Coming In
Curious if Bohnenkamp is a walk on or not, she has yet to sign a NLI
According to Miami's official site, she is coming in the fall. But then again they never announce when players leave or uncommit so will have to check the roster in September.
Clementina Riobueno wins the doubles title in the Southeast region tourney of the ITA Summer Circuit at the University of Alabama! Made the singles semifinals as well.
Canes in the ITA Summer Circuit
After winning the doubles title at Alabama, Riobueno easily won the singles title at Florida over the weekend.
