where is the results
I believe the results to the pre-qualifying, qualifying and main draws will be posted in the links below when it all starts.
The Canes ladies had a pretty successful Duke Invitational! Laurente finished 4-0 in singles to win her group, Wagner went 3-1 to finish in third place, Albuquerque won three in a row after losing her first, and Riobueno ended up with a 1-3 record. Albuquerque finished as runner-ups in their doubles group and Laurente/Wagner had a 1-2 record.
Results and Brackets
The Canes men's tennis team is getting their fall season started this week. First off is the Bedford Cup at the Florida State University from Sept. 26, Thursday through Sunday. Nine schools are participating in this event; Miami, Bethune-Cookman, Central Florida, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, North Florida and Stetson. From Miami, Henrique Tsukamoto, Jack Murphy, and freshman Bernard Tefel will play in the singles draw, and Tsukamoto/Murphy are entered in the doubles draw. Tsukamoto is seeded ninth in the singles draw.
Bedford Cup Draws and Results
At the Bedford Cup, Tsukamoto, Murphy and Tefel all won their opening matches but they also all lost in the second round to end their singles play. Tsukamoto/Murphy also lost in the first round of doubles to make it an early return home. Tefel did well to win his first singles match as a player so that was nice to see. Consolation matches tomorrow.
Brackets and Results
Canes wrap up their Bedford Cup. Highlight: Freshman Bernard Tefel's debut win!
The Canes men quickly ended their pre-qualifying today, with Omar Aly and William Albanese both going down in straight sets in the 1st round. Consolation rounds today.
In the first round of the qualifying rounds for the ITA All-American Championships, Wilfredo Gonzalez lost and Diego Soto won. Gonzalez/Aly and Soto/Albanese start doubles today.
Draws and Results
The beauty of the college scoring system strikes again. The bracket had Soto as the winner yesterday, but apprently he lost. And Gonzalez and Soto both did not play their consolation matches. Gonzalez/Aly and Soto/Albanese also lost their doubles first round matches so that's it for the Canes in the ITA All-American.
Unless the scoring is wrong in some way again. Very possible.
It seems to happen to Miami more often than anyone.
I'm not sure about that but it does seem to happen way too often for everybody. The USTA or NCAA must be in charge. LOL
Zero Canes make it to the ITA All-American main draw. Singles or doubles. Men or Women. On to the next!
Michael Russell beats Jack Sock in the qualifying rounds in Shanghai to make it to the main draw!
just a curious question Jax. I know you are proud of Russell but is he really associated with Miami these days.
Play nice now !
Once a Cane, always a Cane. Not sure what the point to your question is.
ITA Southeast Regionals getting ready to start. Jack Murphy and Bernard Tefel are in the qualifying draw and the other six members are in the main draw. Go Canes!
Hurricanes lack of good results continue. Tefel goes down 6-3, 6-0 and Murphy goes down 6-1, 6-0. Sure am seeing a lot of bagels served to Canes lately. Tefel gets his second win in consolation but Murphy goes down again. The other six Canes and three doubles teams start play tomorrow in the main draw. No more bagels at least please.
Better day for the Canes today.
Gabriel Flores (MIA) d. Nick Wood (UGA), 7-6 (2), 6-3
William Albanese (MIA) d. Dean Tsamas (FGCU), 6-3, 5-7, 7-5
#9-16 Diego Soto (MIA) d. Tianyu Bao (FGCU), 6-1, 7-5
#9-16 Garrett Brasseaux (UGA) d. Omar Aly (MIA), 7-5, 3-6, 6-3
Wilfredo Gonzalez (MIA) d. Eric Diaz (UGA), 6-4, 6-2
Much better! Flores, Albanese, Soto and Gonzalez playing the the singles 2nd round today. In doubles, only Aly/Gonzalez made it as far as the 2nd round where they were knocked out.
Draws and Results
Good win for Flores. Maybe he re-discovered his passion for tennis.
I was a bit worried that he might not even come back after the way the last season ended. We need him this year so good to see him get a win.
Four Canes advance to the round of 16! Soto, Gonzalez, Tsukamoto and Albanese all win. Let's go Canes!
Four Canes made it to the round of 16, but all four lost in the next round. Would have been nice to see Gonzalez at least keep his #7 seed but no go. Still not a bad week.
Draws and Results
The team season for the 2013-14 season has been released. The men's team start things off on January 11th against Liberty at home. During the season, they will face ten teams that were ranked higher last year, including #1 and national champion Virginia and #7 Duke. With three seniors leading the way, hopefully things will be improved over last year, but they may be on the outside looking in for the third consecutive season when the NCAA tournament teams are announced at the end of April. That has never happened in the history of the Canes men's tennis team. Hopefully the team can prove me wrong and they will be able to score some upsets and sneak into the tournament for the 46th time.
Seven Lady Canes are taking part in the ITA Southeast Regional. Good luck ladies! Go Canes!
Singles and Doubles Draws
All seven singles players and all three doubles teams make it out of the first round. Wagner has also won her round of 32 match to advance! Go Lady Canes!
Four Lady Canes made it to the round of 16 and Wagner made it to the quarterfinals where she lost to top seed Kowase of Georgia. Not a bad showing by the Canes.
So glad the NCAA mess is over for the Canes! The tennis teams are affected a bit in the area of recruiting but nothing that's not manageable.
The Ten Stages of a Canes Fan on October 22, 2013
The men's team will be participating in a tournament at Florida Gulf Coast University this weekend. They will be competing against players from FGCU, Barry, FAU, UCF, Arkansas and Boston College. The format will be a compass draw so every play will get to play several matches win or lose. This is basically a tournament to get in match play as the players get ready for the team season coming up in January. The tournament runs from Friday, October 25, to Sunday, October 27. Good luck to the guys!
Canes had a pretty good showing in the Florida Gulf Coast Invite this pat weekend. Tsukamoto and Albanese met in the Green Singles bracket final and Albanese won in three sets. Albanese and Murphy also made it to the doubles final beofre losing a close one. Tefel also finished third in his group. Flores had a pretty rough week. I'm concerned about him. Not sure if he just didn't come in from the summer with much preparation, or if the will just isn't there. If the Canes are to have any chance at all to get to the NCAA tournament, we're going to need him but it doesn't look too promising right now.
Andy Murray supports the U! Cool Pic!
It should not go unnoticed that this Friday, 11/22 is Gardnar Mulloy's 100th birthday.
He is still in pretty good shape which is amazing and lives in the Miami area.
I believe he founded the tennis program at UM and he was a top player in his day.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Mulloy.
It should be noted that Miami Hurricanes All-American Daniel Vallverdu has been a coach on Andy Murray's team. They first met over 10 years ago at the Sanchez-Canal Tennis Academy in Barcelona. Vallverdu has been the hitting coach for Murray since 2010. He was also the coach for Britain's men's tennis team at the London Olympics.
Yes it's noted now, well done
The man who started Miami Hurricanes men's tennis team, Gardnar Mulloy turns 100 today! Former World No. 6 in singles, 4-time US Open Doubles Champion, Wimbledon Doubles Champion, US Open Singles Finalist, Former Pro World Ranking No. 1, and member of International Hall of Fame!
Facts about Gardnar Mulloy
Kirijax, you have not even commented yet on the latest men's team commitments, from Poland and Sweden!
They have 3 signees. The two you mentioned and a Blue Chip from FL. http://www.hurricanesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=28700&ATCLID=209319732
The Miami Hurricanes signed three recruits over the weekend! First was Blue-Chip recruit Christian Langmo. He is currently ranked No. 29 in this year's senior class. Next was Alexander Fahnehjelm from Sweden. The only thing I've been able to dig up on his was that he was ranked No. 6 in Sweden. Third was Piotr Lomacki from Sweden and a current rank of #1292 on the ITF rankings.
Miami's All-American Daniel Vallverdu with Andy Murray at the Wimbledon Champions party! Does Lendl look uncomfortable or what?
All-time Great Martina Navratilova at The U!
28 more days until the Canes season opens! They start off their season against Liberty on Jan. 11.
Team rankings out soon! The ladies team should be in the top ten. The men will be doing good to be in the Top 50! Go Canes!
ITA Rankings are out.
Canes men at No. 55 and Canes Ladies at No. 9 in the country!
I have not paid close attention to this thread so excuse me if it has been mentioned.
Do Murray and other pros practice with the Miami team? I seem to remember reading Los Angeles pros would at UCLA and USC.
Former All-American Hurricane Daniel Vallverdu is on Murray's coaching staff since 2010. Murray loves Miami and often practices at The U.
Does anyone have a list of how many times all the schools have been in the NCAA tournament?
My own predictions for the Canes Men's team. Could be a rough year, with next year even worse.
Can't see UNC being a coin flip at all. Would also guess they will lose to USF, who will be way better...at least a lot better than 70.
Just curious to see if you support a losing coach as such a die hard fan? Wouldn't you like to see new leadership there and a respectable team like back in the day?
