So weird for me.

Are they going to build separate temporary stands around the main court within the stadium? Otherwise spectators are going to be too far away from the court and 65000 is just too many for a tennis match IMO. Or block off the upper tiers?

Truly bizarre...... reminds me of some of the ad-hoc stadium style tennis events in the 70's. Tennis actually ended up doing well out of those, but the personalities were so big in that era that it suited the outsized arenas.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out next year. Miami not likely to recover its former glory and emerge from under the shadow of IW for a long time......

Upper tiers will be blocked off, new courts being built in current parts of the parking lots, and temporary seats close to the court. I think the court color is badass though. But it seems so industrial looking overall (the facilities). Now there's so much grass around it's nice.

Thanks for the reply. But Those pics you posted are of the current Cranford Park complex though.

It’ll be nice to see a bird’s eye view from directly above the Hard Rock stadium and how the main court and stands will look, as it is difficult to gauge from pics in the OP.

I know, im saying I much prefer how grassy the location is now compared to it all sitting on a parking lot.

It's going to be bigger though no doubt, which is a good thing.

It's like going from a Cedar fair park with coasters in the terrain, to going to six flags, which are the kings of putting a coaster in a parking lot :D

Come to Wimbledon if you want some greenery at a tennis tournement:)

Wow I think that is cool, don't get the negativism. New venue (looks great), 65000 seats (holy damn). Miami the 5th major now?

The disparity in crowd capacity between Stadium Court and the only two other show courts is nuts. Too bad they don't seem to have a plan to partition the stadium into two courts. I guess they fear crowd noise from the adjoining court would hinder play but they do something similar at indoor arenas, no?

Folks that own Crandon did not want to invest the money needed to update the tournament facilities. It's a shame. There is nothing like watching tennis in the middle of the ocean.

The new location is not very "Miami", it is more like Pembroke Pines. But I have a feeling the tournament itself will be a lot closer in quality now to Indian Wells.

I bet Fed will get to play on the Stadium Court while Djokovic and Nadal get to play on the other ones.

That's a mighty big stadium for a Masters 1000 event.

What's gonna happen to the current Key Biscane facility?

Hopefully they build up the event to be as beautifully laid out as Indian Wells. Have a huge grassy area with the palm trees. If they leave it as just a parking lot with tennis courts that will suck.

Gorgeous. Hard rock looks a little sucky aerial. Is it good on ground level?

I know it's never going to happen, but I wish one of these big money American events was played on grass. Especially when you can start with a stadium that already has a grass field.

I will never go to a tournament in a parking lot, especially in Miami (that would be one hot mofo!). Crandon Park was beautiful (and South Beach was right around the corner). Too bad they couldn't work things out.

Will be interesting to see what it looks like. Could be a different winner's circle this year.
stupid move, bad for the fans... Too far from the court. can't see the ball. Tennis balls moving at 90 mph, from seat far away makes horrible viewing. Move to suck more money out of fans that are visiting.

Man with the way that stadium is in a parking lot, if Stone Cold Steve was a tennis player, I can imagine him cutting a promo before the tennis match

"I can whoop your @$$ on that court...hell we can take this out to the parking lot son, and I can whoop your @$$ there. And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold Said So..!!!" *Glass Breaks*

Not really the case... dispute was over the ‘public park for non-profit use’ - family of the man who originally donated the land refused to budge. Went to court - apparently the agreement was rock solid and the court refused to overturn it.
