Mid-Cut Shoes...where did they all go?

I stocked up on some Prince Mid Cut shoes a couple years ago because they were on closeout.

Now I'm looking for a new pair of mid-cut shoes and I am amazed at how limited my options are for a mid-cut shoe.

Anyone have a pair of mid-cut shoes they like that are available right now?

I have a somewhat narrow and flat foot.

Thanks.

Thanks...I'll take a look at those.

Hate that TW don't have the Barricades...cheapest I've found is $80...prefer to buy from TW though.

The Cobra is comfortable, but almost too soft. Nike Air Zoom Trainer is great out of the box, but not super durable. You have to break in the upper part as it digs into your ankle at first.

yessir you do!!! only had to learn that once!

otherwise, i would go +1 on the mid barricades. i've been playing in those for about 2 years now and they have pretty good support and they're very durable. i don't think that it needed much of a breakin either, but it's been a while since i had any at that stage.

at this point, it's probably easier to find plutonium than it is to find midcut tennis shoes. i'm not sure why that is.

the late 80s/ early 90s were probably the heyday of the midcut tennis shoe. hey, who know here knows how to build a time machine???

The problem is that the ankle protection from the mid cut shoes is actually very poor. If you really want ankle protection you have to wear a proper ankle brace like ASO

mid cut can be good...

I understand this statement, but don't agree w/ it.

I've been dealing w/ ankle issues since I played JC tennis, where an acute tear ended my season in the nor cal dubs championships.

in teaching for many years, I've used a combo of higher shoes, and braces.

currently I'm wearing the Viper 5 high (w/ the velcro strap), and in testing and feeling, it actually feels better then many of the braces I've worn. I'd like to go back to a lighter shoe, and even picked up a light figure 8 brace to see if it would feel good w/ a low/light shoe (in this case the ascis gel res 2).

It doesn't feel nearly as stable and secure as my viper 5.

Another thought on support, this asics is supposed to be very supportive, and I see that, but sometimes that "support" is stiffness. What i feel w/ a much stiffer shoe is that if you start to role your ankle, it actually provides leverage over the ankle to go over completely. My viper is actually a far softer shoe then this lightweight asics, but w/ the ankle support and softer feel, i feel much less likely to go over.

Anyway, in looking for a lighterweight alternative, my testing has told me to stay high and moderately soft, even though it's heavier, and in this case, a bit too wide for my foot...

Also,
I think companies can make a GREAT, lightweight mid to high tennis shoe w/ great support.
They just haven't because they don't think players will buy them.
but, almost all pros tape for every match, many wear full braces for prevention, which is often overkill.
I've been dealing w/ ankle issues for 20 year, since my college tennis ending acute injury, through ankle surgery 3 years ago,
and I think the technology is there, and need evident that it could happen. It seems prince and kswiss are the only companies that are interested. I've had an nike basketball shoe that had great support and was light. It could be a simple as blending a lighter weight bball shoe w/ a tennis sole/tread.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

Cheers,
