Have you tried 16 g V-torque yet ?

I could send you a pack of the Blue but that would make that Orange even more he heinous ;)

But Neon Green and pumpkin Orange - well now that is a beauty queen waiting for her chance to shine ;)

*shudder*

He'd have to string V-Torque much lower… It is significantly lower powered than Cyclone Tour

No I have not tried it. I'm going to stick with Cyclone Tour for the month of June.

You might skip V-torque - I like the string but have snapped the mains twice on a return of serve getting less than 5 sets from both.

Both times I was returning serves of 30something 4.0 guys. I hit the returns cleanly snapping a main on the middle of the string bed -

Wish they made their strings in 15 or 15L

Got to test out the Signum firestorm 1.25 today. Very impressed. little too powerful in the beginning but once it settled in very impressive power and control. ONe of the most powerful polys I have ever tested. little less spin potential than alu power but more powerful. Control and feel not bad, better than most polys.

Power rating 9/10
spin production 7/10
Control 8/10
feel 8/10

Not a fan of the other half of the hybrid. I like full poly in the ESPs better anyways.

ok understood. I guessed you are arm sensitive as you always take notes about it - so this softened hybrid version would interested you. Anyway, I just tried it today first time in Tour team 100 16x18 and was very pleased with it. Good to arm, power just to keep ground strokes in court, and sooo spinny compared to round polys I tried before.

Not very many strings including polys hurt my arm with the ESP frame.

Mikeler,
as I liked Volkl psycho, I am considering to buy it in the reels (Cyclone and Power fibre II) but I wonder how would it feel if I replace Cyclone with Cyclone tour? What is you opinion - how would this set up change in this hybrid?
thanks

Using the tour might give you a softer bed & more power

the question is if I will use Cyclone tour in Psycho like hybrid instead of plain Cyclone will not it be too soft, or if softness of tour version would be enough to use it in full bed instead of Psycho hybrid and have similar arm friendly characteristic?

No love per that new string discho big star?:-/ I'm tempted to buy it but there is a big shipping fee from germany to italy so I don't know if I should buy a reel or wait some reviews...
I really need a stiffer string for that ESP frame, all traditional strings lose tension too fast

tennis-maniac - I believe that Mikeler doesn't like the price of Luxilon strings.

That and Big Banger Original wrecked my arm. As always, check post #1 of this thread for links to all my reviews.

I have not tried the first two. I've got Ytex Quadro Twist at home and it will go in as my next playtest.

You mentioned you are considering getting the strings in reels. I would buy a set to test in each configuration (psycho and your Tour/PFII).

What racquet and tension are you currently using?

yeah, I was trying to get shortcut, probably I will have to test it myself..
I was expecting some experet to tell me: using cyclone tour full bed you shall be OK son same comfort like your hybrid or something like: use normal cyclone in hybrid cos it is spin machine and comfortable etc..

now I have Psycho in Prince tour team 100 16x18 strung at 24,5kg

My current fav rough hybrid is cylone mains / volkl syn gut. It seems to slide around enough and I get extra power (not too much) compared to a full bed. When the mains start sticking, I cut out.

I haven't used a multi yet with cyclone. Only multi hybrid I've used with a shaped poly was Tour Bite/NXT Tour.

Just be between you, me and the interwebs, I think Cyclone Tour and Snake Bite are the same string. Genesis Typhoon also looks suspiciously like those two as well but I have not hit with it yet.

Want some Typhoon to test? I have extras and don't mind sharing just to get your comparison of it to others in the list.

It's about time! I almost sent you an e-mail today to ask about it.

So i will wait for the review of the quadro twist!!!

Yes and I'm out for a few days (I hope) with a groin pull. Then I have league matches the next 2 weekends after this and then I leave on vacation for 2 weeks. I might be able to try it once before I leave.

Will you try black zone?

Probably not.

I usa discho iontec salmon 1.35mm on prince 100t ESP frame.I have never broken it, it plays great for first 3 hours and so and so for another 3 hours, then at 6th hour mark I cannot play with it anymore, it does not snap back anymore. Well,in fact it is still playable, it just lose its magic.
I'm an hard hitter, probably 4.5
Because I've leaded my beloved ESP frame, I need to string it at higher tension.I'm using 29kg ATM. I feel the racquet suffering while stringing at so high tension, and playing 2-3 hours at day I'have strung it already 30 times.
So: with a stiffer string, I should able to play at lower tension, giving lesser stress to my racquet, and a stiffer string should retain its playability for more time.
Discho big star tour is a new string made by Discho just few days ago. It should be a copy of luxilon 4g, the owner said that it has superior tension stability and it is stiff than usual poly,so he recommend to string it 10-15% lower than usual.
I would like to try it in full bed at 26kg or hybrided with iontec to soften the sttingbed.
It is sold in 1.20-1.25-1.30-1.35mm

I feel ya, I was doing 31kg on my 99S with full poly. It definitely wears down the frame way faster than normal. It's really one of the only reason I ditched the 99S, I couldn't get my frames to wear down at the same rate after such high, repetitive stringing. My frames felt totally different even though the specs were matched.

Luckly I'm wearing down both my frames equally ahha ;-) but the use of a stiff string will save our frames, I'm pretty sure ;-) using traditional strings on ESP patterns is something like use badminton strings on 16x19 tennis racquet. When thick, stiff string will be developed more and more, the problem will be solved.
Okey, for the sake of tennis experiments I've ordered 2 reel of this big star tour 1.35mm.I'll post a review for first days of next week.

today I tried solinco tour bite soft full bed and it was not soft at all to me! I have to stick with hybrid sets, for time beeing Psycho is fav, but maybe I will try tour bite soft with some syn gut or PF II in cross.

ESP and SET open patterns: Like many of you I have struggled to find a poly that retains it's intended playing characteristics and or tension for very long....yes, I know it's the nature of the beast. I will say however I have found one that stands out on both fronts in the Steam 99S/Steam 99LS, Juice 100S, Prince Tour 100ESP's: Solinco Revolution (I use the 17g). It works well in many tension windows from the 40's to 60 lbs (cp). I have verified the tension maintenance often with RacquetTune. I have tried MANY full poly set ups in these open patterns. May be worth a try for some of you that are looking to keep full poly in these. For some reason I don't care for the Revolution in any hybrids I've tried....I may not have found the proper tension ratios for this in the few times I've tried.

What kind of tension loss are you seeing?

John Kawasaki

Strung at 55 lbs. on a Babolat Star 5 (cp). 24 hours at rest/unplayed 52 lbs. Typically I will have 2 hitting hitting sessions during the week (1.5 hrs ea) then play 6 set of doubles. at the end of this week tension will be 49 to 50 lbs and will stabilize around 48/49 lbs for another week of the same. I have these similar type readings for my last 4 string jobs (cut out after 2 weeks if not broken)......with settled grommets.

My coworker who uses Snakebite thought Revolution was a near carbon copy in construction and playability. Although full poly only lasts him an hour, so he doesn't measure tension loss. Just an FYI. :)

Fuji, if it is, it definitely would be worth a try. Revolution has (for me) really mitigated a lot of issues I have had in wanting to continue with the 99S and SL sticks as I really enjoy playing with these particular SET's......thanks for the info

Fuji, like you, I have played the 99S at high tension.....62 to 64 lbs (cp) with TB 17.....loved it at this tension for about 3 hrs of play before it's playing characteristics (and/or tension) went bye bye. That's where I see a difference with the Rev: I don't have to go over 60 lbs and it's plays very well for a long time.

My 17g snake bite just refuses to snap. Great string for the price.

As strange as it sounds, I have a harder time breaking the Red colour compared to black. Definitely one of the best price vs performance strings on the market.

How many hours have you logged on the 17g???

Red 17g is lasting longer than black 16g. I didn't track the time on this one. Maybe 7 sets if singles and 4 sets of doubles.

Holy. That's quite a bit, especially in the ESP frames. Has it kept it's playability halfway decent for that long?

Read this thread and I am out of polybreak mains. So I decided to try a pack of the snakebite Red 17 to see how it goes in my hybrid setup.

Not sure how fast their shipping is, but I should have it in a few days. It seems to be a popular string on the college circuit.
