What do you think about Milos Raonic. He was fairly talented player, with perfect serve, great volleys and very solid forehand. However he was injury prone.
Do you think that he failed to meet expectations or on the contrary he ovearchieved

he did his job at 2016 W, where I was sure Fed was going to add to his slam tally

He did what he could with what he had. If Botnic were born a couple years later he could've snagged a masters or two in these rofltimes. He was too limited to challenge in-form B4. His best chance was had he beat Mandy in YEC SF, which was razor close, but I think beating Murray and Djokovic back-to-back would've been too much.

He was not a servebot like Isner or Karlovic. Guys like Anderson or Raonic( ranked number 3 which is impressive) had some potential, but their career was partly destroyed by injuries. And he could snatch a Wimby title IMO

I looked at photos of him now compared to several years ago. Good lord, what happened to him?? It's like he put on 50lbs of fat and starting smoking 20 cigarettes a day. Just search his name on google images if you don't believe me.
2020 AO vs 2020 Cinci- it is as if he ate a prey of elephants xdd. I do not know what happened to him, but i did not recognise him lol

Raonic would make an extremely lousy Wimbledon winner. He was good but winning a slam us supposed to require a special top level and he never had that. A fit Federer in his 30s dismissed Raonic routinely in 2014/17, and would surely have in 2016 had he been fully fit.

What a joke, Raonic didn't do any "job" on Roger. Fed was clearly injured during that match and had knee surgery days afterwards and didn't play again until the AO in 2017, which he then won. He was firing on about 1 cylinder in that 2016 Wimbledon match. The next year, Fed beat the boring robot in straights on Centre Court.

It's not like Milos was a looker even in his younger years.

By 2020, he'd morphed into this. I almost thought this was a parody pic.

People really underestimate how much Raonic changed his game to make a real push for some big titles. Too many dismissed him as a serve-bot but he had a ridiculously good FH aswell and he went through a phase where he took some pace off his serve to give himself better court time for the return if it was coming back. He was never the quickest player but he made the best of what he had and it's a shame that injuries hit him right as he was in his prime. For me he didn't overachieve and maybe slightly underachieved but most of his title runs were ended by a Big3/4 member so no-one can really blame him for that.

Raonic was pretty disappointing against the Big 3 in almost every big match, the one exceptions being against an injured Federer and that one set against Djokovic at “Cincy” 2020 (after which he proceeded to disappoint again by losing a very winnable match against a mediocre Djokovic). At least his lost gen colleagues Dimitrov and Nishikori had some big-ish wins and results against them.

That said, he also had the lowest ceiling of the three so it’s fair to say he accomplished plenty with what he got.

That's true, but I wasn't sure why he looked so much worse. Did he really just let himself go and put on a load of weight?

His unathletic legs that gave him troubles at times were the reason why his talent and skills did not get him further. Perhaps, his injuries had something to do with his inadequate footwork. Milos has lived up to his potential smartly.

Wonderful serve, maximised the right playing style for him around 2016 (essentially serve+1&v) but still struggled to actually win tournaments - I think he was ranked world #3 at one point despite not holding a single ATP title.

Along with being injury prone the biggest problem seems to have been between the ears. I don't think McEnroe's right that players need to be outwardly emotive the way he was but Raonic did seem to lack the kind of steely determination to bloody mind his way to winning very loseable matches the way the very top players regularly do.

Tall guys dont fare well for marathon tennis ask Delpo, Safin, Jarry and many others but Raonic main issue was his love for Indian cuisine using Canadian supermarket milk for making paneer instead of raw, its in the genes and majority of indians have this issue. Garlic Naam and Paneer yummmmmM its not his fault.
