Mini Review: Asics Court FF3 vs Gel Resolution 9 vs Babolat Fury 3

Recently purchased all 3 shoes to try out so thought I'd post a few thoughts.

I am a 4.5-5.0 teaching professional with a major D1 university.
Bigger build, around 190lbs 5'11, 11.5 shoe. On court 6 days a week. Medium width, pretty flat foot
Trying some new shoes since I have been a little unhappy with my usual shoe (cant say because we are sponsored by the brand).

My findings:

Babolat Fury 3

Looks 8.5/10
Fit 5/10
Playability/stability n/a
Durability n/a but might be suspect
Comfort 8/10

I was excited for these to come out since I have liked some Babolat shoes in the past and have been waiting forever for them to put out anything new.

Really liked the looks, I like mostly white shoes with some pops of color so they arent boring and these (white/blue) ones looked great IMO.

Unfortunately I had to return them because the width was gigantic. My feet were sloshing around in them so much I actually checked the box to see if I had mistakenly gotten an extra wide size pair.

I would rank these up there with Solecourt boosts in terms of width so you'll love these if you liked those.

Fit-wise the heel area had no ergonomics, just felt flat like a pair of low end tennis shoes. Not would I would expect for expensive shoes like these. Definitely some heel slip just walking around. Length is true to size.

Lacing-wise I had to cinch these things up so that there were huge rabbit ear loops to make them feel snug and still they felt too wide.

Although I didn't play in these (returned after walking around in the house), some of the medial side slide protection rubber was already peeling off, just from walking around, so Im not too convinced of their durability.

Overall pretty bummed on these personally but you may like them if you have a wide foot. Note, I do love the Jet Mach 3 and happy to see today they released a decent colorway finally. They also seemed pretty cushioned so I gave them an 8/10 there.

Asics Gel Resolution 9

Looks 7/10
Fit 7/10
Playability/Stability n/a
Durability n/a
Comfort 5/10

Black/blue version. Looks were okay, nothing special. Some of the colorways that were advertised in advance (in the catalog) were much better than what they released, not sure why they changed their minds.

Fit was way more snug than the Fury and some nice ergonomics in the heel although there was a little slippage. Length is true to size.

Walking around in the house with these the top of my foot started to hurt which was a deal breaker. They didn't feel particularly well cushioned and weight-wise felt like bricks (which I expected from a durability based shoe however). Didn't care for the spaghetti thin laces. Why they think that is good I have no idea.

Overall I didn't hate these but not too excited about them either. They did seem very well made like all Asics products I have had.

Ended up sending them back without playing in them.

Asics Court FF3

Looks 8.5/10
Fit 9.5/10
Playability/Stability 10/10
Durability n/a (too soon to tell)
Comfort 9/10...need some break in

Amazing shoe! Bought two pairs, the mostly white ones and the blue-grey also.

These might be one of the best shoes Ive ever tried. Looks-wise very nice although I again prefer some of the catalog colorways.

Fit is like a glove, almost no slippage even when not laced tight. They dont pinch or hurt my feet on the sides in any way. Length is true to size. No heel slippage.

Comfort is good, not super cushiony or pillowy like some shoes but not bad. Ive read on here that these need some break in and thats no joke, took a few times wearing before they weren't stiff but loosened up and are perfect now. Ventilation isn't bad, not as good as some but my feet didn't get too hot.

Durability too soon to tell, fingers crossed its okay. Have worn them about a week now and no real damage perceivable.

Lacing is great, no pain to the top of my foot and the laces are excellent, not the thin GR9 things. Length of the laces is great too, not too short or long.

Playability is where these things really shine. Dont think I have ever had better recovery/lateral movement in any other shoe. Changing directions and pushing off is a dream. I actually feel like these make me a much better player than in another shoe. As a bigger guy once I get moving wide its not so easy to recover sometimes and I appreciate the extra help. Like the bootie-construction, almost no slippage which really helps in recovery.

Bottom line, fantastic shoe imo and unless durability isn't good Ill be back for more. Great job, Asics. Ill update this in a month or so on how they are holding up.

The lacing system in the Propulse Fury 3 needs to be cinched down a bit initially. Very easy to pull onnn the places and lockdown the entire shoe initially. That said, if you do not do that - as they wrap around your foot like a sleeve on both sides - I can see how you might get a "sloppy fit". I did not cinch my shoes up enough initially and I felt the same way. After I DID, however, it was a whole different story.

I have tried all the shoes on your list, and I have to say, the BABOLAT PROPULSE FURY 3 would be my pick! They are very well balanced shoe with great stability. A nice performing shoe all around. Cushioning is good, fit is medium, maybe a smidge generous compared to something like a Barricade. This shoe is a better performing shoe all-around to the Asics Court FF3 (poor cushioning), the Asics Resolution 9 (more poor cushioning), the Adidas Barricade (poor fit), or any Nike shoe made today. It feels a bit like a Diadora Blushield shoe in terms of cushion but like a Barricade in terms of stability. Closest shoe I can think of to compare it to might be the Diadora B.Icon - which is high praise in my book. I just got my pair, but so far, I like it a lot. Definitely a shoe to try out. Could be the best shoe of 2023!

Glad they work for you. I would have liked to have kept mine if they fit me.

I play tested the Asics Court FF3 and found the COMFORT issues in this new model too much to overcome. The shoe felt fine walking around my house for one day, but once I got them on the court, a number of significant issues became very apparent.

First and foremost, there is a problem with the cushioning under the heel of the shoe. After an hour of play on the court, my foot was throbbing, and it felt like I had rocks under my heels. Whether this is due to the new “Air Channel” in the heel creating a smaller stack of foam in that part of the midsole or if it is due to the higher density foam of this design creeping into a major part of the heel cushioning, I am not sure. What I am sure of is that my feet hurt for three days after one hour of play in these shoes.

Overall, I found very little bounce from the midsoles of these shoes and nearly no shock absorption. Perhaps if I added insoles to these shoes I could have improved this, but I feel strongly if you are paying $165. For a pair of tennis shoes, they should feel right out of the box and after proper break-in without adding another $50. in insole cushioning. In short, fit and cushioning needs to be good for me without making modifications to be a keeper.

Finally, I did not feel this shoe was all that quick. They felt a bit slow to react when needed – especially up and back. The fit of the shoe is also a bit tricky. All in all, I was not at all impressed with the Court FF3 and cannot recommend them based on my experience. I don’t know what it is with Asics and my body, but proper cushioning and medial support continues to be a problem for me in all their shoes – the FF3 being the worst.

Just bumping this to report on durability with the FF3.

Impressed so far. Been on court 3 weeks with them and they show minimal wear in the sole.

I do have to say that these took longer to break in than any shoe Ive even worn. I think it was worth it though, these are great shoes.

Honestly, bells and whistles aside, the best two lines of tennis shoes for proper cushioning IMO are clearly Diadora and Babolat.

I have no idea what Nike and Adidas are doing these days but all their shoes are garbage and the ones they had that were well-designed (i.e. Adidas Solecourt Boost and Nike GP Turbo) they discontinue after a couple years. Asics shoes seem to get worse every year, as well. The heel cushioning in the new Asics Court FF3 is DREADFUL! It feels like the larger athletic shoe companies are putting all their time and money into the design of basketball shoes these days and ignoring the tennis market - except for smaller tennis focused companies like Babolat, Diadora, Lotto, and K-Swiss.

@Shaolin can you compare res 9s to 8s ?

I also loved ff3s but on my first hit with them they seemed to lack cushioning on the ball of the foot and in general gave me small pain issues also on the heel….. not while playing but afterwards. I don’t feel that they want a break in….. fit is smooth and ready to play unlike 2s which were sooooo stiff and rigid.

Sorry, I haven't worn the 8s so can't compare. I had the 7s which I really liked. The 9s felt bigger and more clunky than the 7s imo.

The FF3 fit I agree with you is really good right away. I found that the break in was more in the sole of the shoe for some reason, just felt really hard like the rubber needed to soften up. Just something weird Ive never had with another shoe. They are awesome one they became more flexible though. I agree the cushioning isn't great..I like them for the snug fit and playability.

I agree 100 percent here. I manage a store and diadora is killing it. There is a WOW factor when it comes to the diadora cushioning. The ICON is slowly becoming our most popular shoe. People will say "Ive never heard of Diadora!" then they try it compared to other more popular brands and diadora usually wins. The Babolat SFX3 has always been our gold standard when it comes to people just wanting a comfortable shoe. and the fury3 is doing great so far. I always push the tennis focused brands for that very reason^

I tried Diadora on clay and they were crap( at least for a heavy player who moves aggressively)...
