Is anyone else following this story?

Mirra Andreeva is a Russian player born in 2007 (turns 16 on Saturday) taking the Tour by storm. The 15 year old wildcard has beaten Leylah Fernandez and top 15 player Beatriz Haddad Maia this week at Madrid. The 3rd youngest player ever to win a main draw match on the WTA 100 level, and the 7th youngest to beat a top 20 player. She’s also on a 15 match win streak including ITF W60s. This is a breakthrough way ahead of schedule.

The next big thing?

I watched her today against BHM and I was super impressed. Her next match is against Linette.
She looks very confortable on clay + already has good firepower even though not fully developed physically.

7th youngest to beat a top 20 player since 2000, not all time(pretty much half of the entire tour were teenagers in the mid to late 80s, so that list is likely a lot longer)

Looking at your link, most of the other 7 players didn't really do much in the bug picture, so not sure this stat means much. But I look forward to seeing her play(when I saw the draw I thought Andreeva was her older sister)

Those seven 15 year olds that beat top 20 players since 2000 were:
Golovin
Vaidisova
Karantcheva
Larcher de Brito
Gauff
Andreeva

Vaidisova and Gauff were the only ones I thought would win majors.

I haven't watched her yet, but will at least try to get to the highlights later.
Tremendous achievement at her age.
There seems to be some strong young rising talent on the WTA, including Fruhvirtova(s). And it's not like Gauff or even the current top three players are old.

Can't say I was super impressed by the win vs Leylah, who was absolutely atrocious, but didn't see the last one. I don't see immediate (big) success personally, but the tour isn't at its best so ceiling is hard to determine. Interesting though for sure.

The Andreeva sisters are taking the tennis world by storm.
They just mowed down veterans Kich and Zimm in doubles. :)
Mirra turns sweet 16 tomorrow.

I was worried before her match with Krej but she came through with flying colors! :)

I'll be in a quandary for her next match though if Potato makes it through. I'll be torn.

Two of my fave players. :(

wow, from the 'coming of the Fruhvirtova' czech sisters, and Noskova, now this literal teen 16 yr old russian girl has made it to the Wimbledon 4th round to face Keys, while the others have yet not made it to the 2nd week in slams. Good, beautiful, and acrobatic looking strokes, more fun to watch than Swiatek's shots already.

From my stabs at trying to learn russian (lettering first) this past year, her name on wiki,

мирра александровна андреева = "Mirra Aleksandrovna Andreeva"

With her older sister Erika, it could be the "Andreeva" sisters with a possible rivalry vs. the "Fruhvirtova" sisters in the decade to come.

("Mirra Andreeva vs. Anastasia Potapova game, 3rd round" yt video)

Her racquet, is also the 2012-14 wilson Steam 100 blx frame (under Blade paintjobs) like Badosa, Raducanu, Svitolina, Ostapenko, Haddad-Maia, Petra Martic, Linda Fruhvirtova, Diane Parry, etc.

She's a breath of fresh air, I wanna see her reach deep at Wimby. Definitely a promising young player, no media hype may actually help her development

We're in the "wow, look at this amazing young talent" stage before the hate comes for her like Gauff and Raducanu. It's fun. She already looks like a top 20 player.

Why hate? You cannot possibly hate someone if they don't fulfill your expectations. I would understand if someone place a $10000000 bet and loose heavy but other than that it should be only admiration we should show fot the young talents achieving progress in a highly competitive sport...

Watching her match against Keys. She seems toast. Forehand is nice. Serve motion is bad. A lot of temperament problems. But then she's only a teenager. Hope she does not turn out to be another Coco.

Looked like she was going to run away with it and then cratered and gave Keys the saltiest handshake ever seen since Ostapenko's last match.

Why hate?

Because she's Russian? Anyone from RUSsia, BeloRUSsia or even CypRUS is OK to hate or prevent them from participating in slams at least.
Back in the day fans had to personally stab young female players in the back if you wanted to prevent them from competing.
Now discrimination is organized by the tournament, no need to stab anyone.

I've been that far out of it for that long, I've even forgotten the guy's name. Did he have any reincarnations? Like Martinka, an absolute shooting star.
Our dearly departed friend Jason appears to be gone for good. He ragequit after seeing people dare to say Raducanu was better than Kournikova, and frankly that take is aging like the finest of wines.

Unlike 99.9% of TTW, I actually believe he does work in the game in some fashion.
