Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour 3

Haven't seen a thread on this so I'm starting one.

https://www.mizuno.eu/en/emea/catalogue/tennis/footwear/123-0.html

I was browsing online and saw Mizuno updated the wave exceed tour! I'm so excited! I actually haven't tried any mizuno shoes before but have been hearing so many great things about this line of shoes so I've been wanting to buy a pair.

The colorways use to be abit funky on the tour 2 but the Tour 3 has the coolest colorway I've ever seen. I love that neon yellow and light blue.

I'm going to get it shipped from Taiwan and will post my review on them in a few weeks (when I've received them). In the meantime, let's discuss! What do you Tour 2 users think of the Tour 3? What improvements would you like to see etc

Nice but I actually like the looks of the Wave Intense 4 this year (thought the opposite last year). Glad to see Mizuno sticking with tennis long term.

I'm abit surprised this thread has not generated more interest from Mizuno wearers. There were afew that were raving about the Wave Exceed Tour 2

Ok for those interested, I've just received my pair and will write my first impressions. (Haven't gone out with them yet)

First of all, this shoe is made in Vietnam and it looks very well made. I ordered a size 9/42EU/ 27cm. The colourway looks just like the photos, in a blue and neon yellow.

Size and fit: they looked really long and narrow. I tried them on and it is the same length as my Vapor 9.5s in a 9.5/43/27.5cm size! So definitely I recommend to go a size down. I usually wear size 9 but double sock with vapours in a 9.5. The Tour 3s are abit more narrow than the vapors and so I can't double sock it and it's too long but I won't return it since I got it shipped from Taiwan. Compared to my New Balance 996v3 in a size 9 2E, it is definitely longer and more narrow. I also feel like I have abit of heel slip issue due to extra length.

The arch is probably medium and I didn't have a problem with my flat feet.

Also the shoes sit noticeably higher than the vapors and slightly higher than the 996v3.

Ventilation: I haven't received my Tour 2 yet so can't compare but previously someone on here said they returned it because it lacked ventilation. I think Mizuno tackled this problem by adding more mesh in this version. However, from just wearing it at home, I still feel the Vapor is better ventilated.

Comfort: seems quite comfortable and fast. It feels similar to the vapors but I think it needs break-in because it's a little stiff. The mesh is quite comfortable and feels very similar to vapors mesh where it hugs your forefoot.

Like I said I haven't tried them out on the courts but overall it's a not bad first impression. Wish they ran true to size. I have normal width feet and find them quite narrow. Would not recommend to people with wide feet. Will update when I hit the courts

I'm reviving this thread as I'm thinking of getting a pair. A year on, how do they play?

Still the same as I commented previously regarding the fit. I only used these for matches and I've now worn it out completely. Here are in my opinion the pros the cons. Some pros are also cons e.g (low to the ground but minimal cushioning

Pros:
  • Very light and fast
  • Low to the ground
  • Good for narrow feet
  • Somewhat comfortable (besides the issues)
  • Stylish, design and colours look cool
  • Well made
Cons:
  • Minimal cushioning (I feel it when I land on jumps)
  • Laces way too short (I had to replace them)
  • Ventilation not the best (gets a little warm)
  • Fit issues (long and narrow)
  • Not durable (only used for matches and still the outsole was quickly worn out)
  • The tongue of the shoe sits slightly low (sometimes feel like it's pressing the top of my feet a little too much. Noticeable and slightly uncomfortable)
  • Lateral stability is very average
  • Price is a little high
Overall I really wanted to like these as I love the look of them, but I just don't think they are for me. I won't be buying another pair but may try their tour 4 whenever it comes out. I liked the Tour 2s though, although that had afew minor issues too.

Thanks for this review. Not a perfect shoe, but not a complete dud either.

I've seen a decent price for them and have decided to go for it and order a pair. The above has been really helpful.

I'd really like to see if the Mizuno rep would please list the stores that would be carrying this shoe. I like the design, and sounds like the cushioning is very good. I just HATE buying shoes online without trying them on first. If they don't fit, then I gotta ship them back and wait for the next pair to arrive.

You're not wrong about the narrowness of the shoe. Feels like a vice compared to my Ubersonic 2, but they are still in the "breaking in" mode. At this stage I'll wear them out and move back to Adidas U2 I reckon. They don't feel as fast as the aforementioned and I do realise I've not given them a massive amount of time (10 hours court time on artificial grass), but there's definitely no honeymoon period with them so far.

Thought I would revive this thread as I’ve been able to get a pair of these cheap. I’ve also noticed a number of pros switching to them too.

In terms of the fit, they’re certainly narrower but I wouldn’t say they were overly long (pretty much same length as gel res 5). I quite like this, the fit is snug around the mid foot with a nice amount of room in the toe box. I’ve not had any rubbing or hot spots and barely notice them while playing.

Cushioning is good. There is a softer layer of cushioning incorporated into the heel which is nice and I have appreciated the shock absorption a number of times.
I thought I would want the same cushioning in the forefoot but it hasn’t been an issue. There is still good comfort and the gel res 5 feels firm in comparison.
Oh, it’s worth mentioning that the stock insole is paper thin!

The sole on the shoe is very sticky, great for pushing off but I’ve found it almost too good when stopping or changing directions abruptly it can put stress on the ankles and knees. On 2 occasions the grip was nonexistent and I slipped a little.

Overall a nice shoe and I would rate it up with the other flagship shoes. I particularly like the little things like a cushioned tongue and lots of foam around the top of the foot. The new “bootie” trend ends up with a non-existent tongue and the laces cut into the foot.

@Mizuno USA Official if you’re reading, there are some changes I’d love to see in the future.
- Just slightly less friction on the sole (ASICS set the standard here)
- more of a heel cup to keep the foot in the shoe
- less plastic on the upper and more breathable mesh
- better stock insoles

I have been playing for a year with gel resolution 7 and now I am thinking of jumping to the mizuno shoes. Should I stay at the same size?

It’s hard for me to give a definitive answer because I only ever wore the res7 with double socks and wear just one pair now. But.. I think you will probably need to down half a size for the mizuno as they are certainly longer.
