I look for most of the Marlins hitters to regress now that they are not under the tutelage of Bonds :)

In Bonds defense when they came to him to be a part timer, he balked at the notion and insisted he had to travel with the team to really get to know the guy. But he also admitted he wasn't 100% sure that was right for him so he took the 1 year deal on a trial basis. So I think them letting him go was more mutual but now the Marlins are trying to scapegoat him talking about his work ethic and not using video.

He beat Stanton in an HR derby and probably pulled told them they sucked and to stop swinging at so many bad pitches. These coddled youth of today got their feelings hurt, so what you strike too much figure it out.

As a Mets fan I'm so happy bonds got fired. Marlins offense looked like a completely different team last year he did a fantastic job with them. I was hoping the Mets would bring him in since we have talented hitters that have struggled to realize that talent at the major league level (conforto, darnaud, plawecki etc). There's no reason for these guys to all struggle this badly sandy needs to make a change with the hitting coaches. Our pitching coaching staff is elite (warthen and viola have been incredible) but I'm sick of seeing these starters throw 7 innings of zero or one run ball and take a loss or no decision cuz the offense is homerun or bust.

Early NL predictions
Mets Cubs Rockies division winners
Nationals and Dodgers wild cards

Cubs beat nationals 3-2
Mets beat Rockies 3-0

Mets beat Cubs 4-2

The Red Sox to me are the early favorites in the AL. Replacing Papi's bat is a big ask, but who ever they slide In that DH, but with the pitching they added they were already doing a decent job of scoring runs if the DH position gives them 75% of what Papi did they should be fine.

NL is the Cubs for sure. Yea they lost Chapman, but whatever. They were head and shoulders above everyone else last year and got better at most of the positions they had a chance to get better at. Heyward in a few videos I have seen appears to have strianghetd his swing out a little bit. His problem lasy year was his hands were not separting that much from his body. When he would stride his hands would follow his body instead of staying above his back foot. When the hands drift with the body, you can get any power and all you can do is sorta push at the ball. If he can keep his hands back in the same way he has in a few of his swings Ive seen this year he should really be able to turn on the ball. It should also let him wait longer before committing on the pitch. I am looking for him to have one the best years in his career. Even if he goes back to his career norms of 260BA and 350OBP itll be better than he was last year (which was terrible)

Got some love for Al West? Do you figure Anaheim and Oakland will be so bad the other 3 will beat up on them enough to score the Wild cards?

AL East may be down. BOS is top of the heap. Yankees pitching IMO is suspect and the offense is mediocre. NYY Bullpen is lights out which may carry them for a while.
TOR is due to slip losing Encarncion and an aging bautista aint good.
And Tampa is Tampa. They will probably trade Archer mid season.
BAL has exceeded expectations and Britton cant go the whole year giving up 2 runs again. So BOS could potentially beat up the division pretty bad. While the rest of teams are still OK but will beat up each other.

I see the Central kinda playing out the same way. CLE is ready to go, they beefed up the power hitting and bring back that pitching staff with the added benefit of the top starters being back off of injury. If they can stay the course may have best AL record. KC is not good IMO right now, CHI transition period after dealing Sale. and the Twins blow.

A full season with Sanchez in the Yankees batting order and the addition of Holliday will be much better than mediocre. I can see them winning a lot of games by 5-4 or higher scores by getting a lead and handing it over to the pen.

Pretty much, i think the al east beats up on each other and the central is nothing special outside of the Indians. I don't really follow baseball closely outside of the Mets and barely keep up with the AL compared to the NL so thses are in no way "knowledgeable" predictions. Just my guess based off some quick reading about the offseason and going off what happened last year.

Also @Topspin Shot made full predictions so I figured why not

Sanchez has to come back down to earth after he basically was the greatest hitter of all time since they called him up. And Holliday will get hurt :)

Whatever your reasons, that is pretty sound thinking because that's pretty much what I see happening. But O's for the last 5 years have greatly exceeded expectations to ride the AL's best record (its true look it up). but that mediocre offense and starting pitching they can expect the bullpen to continue its thing. CLE actually went out and got better while the rest of division hasn't. CLE may win 100 games this year by smashing the rest of the division.

I'll take Sanchez's second month in the bigs as an improvement over almost any other catcher except for his own first month. 20 dingers in two months (12/8) is special. Holliday will be DHing so, short of a base running incident, he'll produce. The rest of the lineup isn't mediocre either...Castro, Headley, Gardner, Judge (his dingers make Sanchez's seem like pop flies) Bird, Gregorious. Here's what will be mediocre...pitching that faces them.

The Yankees have a ton of elite prospects who are just short of major league ready. But in recent years teans like that have broken out ahead of schedule (Cubs, Royals, Astros, Mets) so why not the Yankees?

Hey, they were in the WC hunt even after being sellers at the trade deadline. They're not that far away and will be that way for the rest of the decade. Cashman knew what he was doing when he was forced to retool.

It's going to be so awesome when the prospects reach the bigs at the same time as the old contracts come off the books. The Yankees will have the best young core in baseball aside from the Cubs, and they'll have more money to spend than any other team at the moment Harper, Machado, and others become free agents.

Oh no... all this Yankees love is getting thick.

I just think they have a lot of question marks. Judge will be inconsistent like any hitter that tall. We don't know enough about Sanchez to know what he will be. Holliday is old. Ellsbury and Gardner are getting old. How will Bird rebound from injury. WIll Tanakas arm hold up? What will Sabathia do? What about the rest of the rotation?

Its a different type of Yankees team than we are used to that's for sure. Not heavy with superstar talent but young promising up and comers. The bullpen is legit. They are close to Baltimore which they are not a bad team just slightly above what an average one. Baltimore has a little better talent in the field, NYY has a little better rotation. NYY has the name guys in the bullpen and Betances gives them a little edge even though I think Britton is better than Chapman. But Betances is really really good, especially in that fireman 6th 7th or 8th Miller role. One of NYY or Bmore could win one of the wildcards. I just cant see how either one can hang with BOS right now.

Now next year when they extend matching 10 year 300 million contract offers to Machado and Harper and both sign they could probably trade a few of those prospects for a some pitchers, or Hope Kershaw opts out and wants to move. Or Harvey hasn't completely obliterated his arm by then and doesn't like to hit. Dallas Kuechel may be avaible, and a couple older dudes you could sign on one year deals if prospects are ready/developing fast enough. The Yankees don't have much committed after this year salary wise with Pineda and Sabathis coming off the nooks (32+mill right there) so I look for them to make a splash. I think they are few pieces short of being true WS contenders and I don't think they will do anything this year to change that. They will wait until after the season and make the FA splash.

I think the PRICE isn't right.:D

Will hurt Boston for the regular season. Postseason chances are improved.
That's funny,

But if he is out they do basically need two pitchers to equal his workload. He is always close to the league lead in innings pitched. Without him they will find away. Probably drop about 3-4 wins without him.

One week away how's everyone's team looking?

Harvey and wheeler both hit 97 this weekend hopefully those two, syndergaard and degrom all stay healthy. Reyes and cespedes have been killing the ball too pretty excited about this year not too many left before all these young pitchers hit free agency (I think harvey hits it next offseason and out of the 5 he's the least likely to sign IMO)

Adam Jones and Macho Manny really shined during the WBC. Hopefully they can carry that momentum through the to the regular season. O's starters have been mediocre over the past 5 or 6 years. But the bullpen has picked up the slack and the team always seems to beat the projections.

GOAT blooper yesterday with Yadier Molina's pine tar adhesive chest protector incident leading to a big rally inning for the Cubbies!
I saw that, that was hilarious! He was looking all around for the ball and didn't realize it was stuck to him. Then Schwarber clubbed a 3-run homer to put to Cubs on top. Man that Schwarber is going to be good, glad I took him on a few of my fantasy teams - and he's catcher eligible too. :D

It's early but this 8-game winning streak has me happy like '96. Go Yankees!!!

Great pitching from CC, Pineda and the pen; The Judge swinging his mighty gavel, Headley lights out, Castro, Ellsbury and Holliday with timely hitting and Romine stepping in for the injured Sanchez and still producing.

17 games in and guess who leads the majors in run differential by a landslide?

That would be the Pinstripes with +33. The next closest is Arizona with a +20.

Earl Weaver would have been tickled today...not one but two 3-run homers and The Judge swung his mighty gavel for a 450-foot solo blast as an exclamation point on the 11-5 win in Pittsburgh.

The Yanks will be scary good if Severino keeps up his strong start to the year. Wednesday night's 7-inning gem vs Boston brought his numbers down even further...2-1, 3.00 ERA, .178 BA, 33-4 K/BB, WHIP 0.78.

I vote no save for Chapman last night...inherited a 3-0 lead, coughed up a run, had the winning run at the plate and missed being the loser by about 10 feet of foul territory on a long drive to left the pitch before his closing K. Velocity was sub-100 and he was very ordinary. Betances, OTOH, was lethal in the eighth.

Tanaka is the ultimate gamer. He is just a throwback type of pitcher. Goes out there and battle for as long as the team asks.

BOS can not score runs for Sale so far this year.

Some how the Orioles keep pulling out most of these close games. Brad Brach seems to fine in the closer role. O's may trade Britton at the deadline to avoid arbitration after the season. They wont spend the money to keep him long term anyway.

Home Run Derby breaks out in the Bronx and the Yankees prevail 14-11 in 10 innings to tie the O's for 1st place on Holliday's 3-run Jack walkoff after Castro's 2-run HR tied it in the bottom of the ninth. They overcame a 9-1 deficit on two swings of The Gavel by The Judge and a grand salami by Ellsbury.

You could already be a very rich person if you simply bet on the over for all Yankee games except their contests with the Red Sox. The Bronx Bomber power display continued today in a 12-4 (O/U was 9) win over the O's with Brett Gardner going yard twice, the Mighty Judge swinging his Gavel again and Austin Romine adding a dinger. Didi Grigorious also had a RBI double and scored a run in his second game back from his spring training injury.

Anthony Rendon had a career day on Sunday...6 for 6, 3 HRs and 10 RBIs at the expense of the Mets pitching staff, now decimated by Thor's early exit and subsequent MRI today that revealed a partial tear of his latissimus dorsi muscle on his throwing side.

Sorry to tell you, mate @T1000 but Tom House the throwing guru predicted a problem would occur because of Syndergaard's offseason addition of so much muscle bulk without pitching through the strength training. House predicted he would be DL'ed by the second week of June. If Noah is lucky, that might be a timetable for his return.

Not really worried torn lats aren't that bad. Sure he'll be out for 6-8 weeks but long term it really won't affect him. sucks he's out with lugo Matz and cespedes but if we can keep the series with Washington close while they're out we'll be fine

Adam Jones got a standing ovation by decent BoSox fans last night on his first plate appearance. Even Chris Sale stepped off the mound to let the applause linger.

Unfortunately, the love-in lasted one at bat. Sale threw behind Manny Machado as Pedroiagate continues to simmer more than a week after the "dirty" slide. There was no pregame warning prior to the game so Sale was not ejected. Machado got his own revenge, going yard later on vs the new ace but it wasn't enough as Boston won 5-2.

In other less combative AL East news, The Judge swung his mighty gavel twice more as the Bronx Bombers crushed the Jays 11-5. He now has 12 dingers for the year. Tanaka pitched 6 innings of one-run ball before fading but gets to 4-1 for the year.

Machado hit a homer the night before and pimped it out a little long. That's why Sale threw behind him.

Its pretty much the reason most Orioles fans hate Jose Bautista. Somebody throws at his head and misses he takes them yard bat flips and slows his homerun trot down.
But O's fans worship Manny and he can do no wrong. When I bring up the fact that he tried to throw a bat at a dude they just say "So, its Manny" double standard and I hate it. FYI I like both of them guys. Not the bat throwing part though.

Has the judge been tested 4 times this season like Thames?

Just saw the replay on yes. Good game but what a killer way to lose 2 strikes 2 outs top of the 9th hanging slider.

The other New York team came back from 1-7 to win 8-7 on a bases loaded walk. Almost left after the 6 run marlin inning but stayed and glad i did. Wasn't the prettiest game but it was still a fun one to see live

Trout out a couple of weeks torn ligament in his thumb. He's been by far the best player in baseball again it's not even close. Feel bad he's stuck on that terrible team.

Harper and Strickland had a real fight on the mound today. Took 4 guys to drag Strickland off the field, Harper is lucky the dugouts cleared before Strickland could do any damage. Suspensions incoming for both

Conforto has been putting up better numbers than judge but no one is talking about him. Mets bats are waking up but the rotation and bullpen are still a disaster. Bruce Duda and walker are all hitting well.

Another underrated stud, jake lamb, has been tearing it up this year and isn't getting any love. His teammate goldschmidt has been the best 1b in baseball for the past couple years and hasn't gotten any love either

Murderers Row, Part Deux...Gardner and Holliday both homered twice and their dinger leader swung his gavel lightly for an RBI double as the Yankees clubbed Baltimore 8-3.

Those four homers kept Gardner and Holliday tied at 11 each for the first 49 games and the team total of 75 puts them on pace to hit 250+ for the year. The MLB record is by the 1997 Mariners with 264 set when they played in the hitter friendly Kingdome.

Tanaka will start Wednesday night and attempt to back Severino's strong outing (1 earned run in 6+ innings). Tanaka has been lights out under the lights but horrible in day games (ERA 17+).
