Okay, so it has been a while since I followed baseball. My Expos were taken from me much too early in my life. But oh well, we must move forward. As I now have a young son who is starting T-ball, I wanted to watch MLB games with him and have a team to root for. Problem is, what team? Well, I watched the playoffs last year and decided to choose the LA Dodgers. Yeah, bandwagon maybe, sue me.

As a Canadian I should choose the Blue Jays eh? No, I will never root for Toronto team.

Reason I chose the Dodgers is because unlike other sports, in baseball there is no salary cap. This makes it top heavy, and many teams and markets really have no chance. The Dodgers will always be willing to spend money now and 20 years in the future. I can NOT give my son the Cowboys and Oilers as his only teams to root for. He needs to experience a championship in his life at some point. The Dodgers also have the best player and a new rookie Japanese player I am excited for. Plus, a vacay to southern Cali to watch his team play while going to Disney Land is not such a bad idea. So am I a bandwagonner? Sure. But it is a long term decision.

So, on that note, who do you root for and how do we see the season playing out?

Have been a LA Dodger fan for almost 35 years since I started living here. Didn’t change my affiliation to the Angels when I moved to OC after a decade in LA. While all the winning in the last decade has been great, it is a bit weird to be considered the high-spending Evil Empire which seems to be the mantle passed down from the NY Yankees.

I do need to warn you, me becoming a fan might end this teams run at success. Sorry.
 
have to make a decision....$100 to stream Guardians games and I don't stream to my big flat screen, though I can on my laptop....but Spectrum now has finally come through with their offer if you want to stay on cable, but they're charging $150...I need a new laptop as well and was planning on spending more money on that...my tv died as well in November...I know I probably need to cut the cord but I just don't feel like learning a new set-up, prefer what I have....I did just get significant concessions from Spectrum recently when I threatened to cut the cord

p.s. if you're in my position, specifically with Spectrum, make sure you're connected to the 'retention' dept. for a deal...love that word, retention

don't expect the regular season to go as well for the Guards this year...that was a very smooth ride until the playoffs last year...especially the bullpen
 
can't believe the Guards have the best record in the AL...not after the off-season or start of this season

the drama at closer continues after Smith's four pitch save last night against the Yankees, second save against them in two days

team now saying Clase has a sore shoulder and may not be available today either

Vogt said it's not true he's not the closer anymore
 
I was born in LA. I went to hundreds of Dodgers games since babyhood. I watch the Dodgers regularly on TV. I have many Dodgers hats, shirts, signs, and I carry a Dodgers wallet.

I hate Dave Roberts. He somehow did a great job in 2024. Dodgers won in 2020 despite Roberts poor managing. I wish so much someone else could manage.

I hate Max Muncy. His defense is good for periods, but he mostly sucks. He hits a lot of home runs, but his average is too low. There are many times he could slap a single into left field and get the team a win, but he always goes for the home run, hurting his team with strikeouts, leading to more losses. Roberts chooses to play him despite this and puts him at prime spots in the batting order too.

Will Smith has great runs, but then has very long droughts. Roberts puts him in prime spots in the batting order despite the long droughts.

The pitching is not as good as I thought it would be in 2025. And Clayton Kershaw might ruin a playoff run. It was a blessing not to have him in the 2024 playoffs because Roberts would have put him in at prime spots. Kershaw is a great pitcher - in the regular season - playoffs, not so much.

Dodgers have a chance to win it all in 2025, but a lot of teams can win. There are so many great teams - Padres, Diamondbacks, Braves, Phillies, Mets. Dodgers defense is shakier than last year. Dodgers should put Edman leadoff, then Freddie, then Shohei, then Mookie, then Teoscar, then Smith when he's hot, then David Bote, then Dalton Rushing, then Hyeseong Kim.
 
four homer game from Eugenio Suarez, Diamondbacks third baseman...only 19 ever, 5 less than perfect games...his team still lost which has happened a few times...there was one old four homer game where two of them were inside the park

 
I am genuinely enjoying the Athletics season. Hopefully moving to Vegas lets them keep the talent they have. Because they're 1-2 guys away from being a legitimate problem. Especially since the AL is pretty wide open. Especially the AL West.
 
Yep, that clock struck midnight real fast. Just funny it happened right after a sweep of their boys.

damn, first time seeing that tall best for the Brewers

getting restless as a Guards fan and seeing all these prospects coming up while last year's overall #1 Bazzana is on injured list

going to haunt the Guardians for years if this is who he is...just missed a fifth too...Guards had the #1 pick by very good luck and picked Travis Bazzana, a second baseman...he's been out with an oblique, but is back now...don't know if we'll see him with the big club this season, but if he's not their starting second baseman sometime next year, and as a smaller guy, making people think of Altuve and Pedroia we are screwed...fireable offense for the front office, in addition to their other high picks on everyday players/hitters in recent years, going back a decade

was watching Keith Law, the draft and prospect expert talking about how he doesn't like Bazanna's swing and doesn't know if he's good enough defensively to stick at second

I'm angry and scared right now

Emmanuel Clase has come in to the game at the beginning of the 9th inning 40 times this season. Here is his Statcast Waste% (pitches that aren't close to the zone).

First pitch of 9th inning: = 17.5%
Every other pitch = 5.2%

Just speculating, but this is how Luis Ortiz got flagged.

p.s. if this is the reason, he has been driving me insane all year with this bleep...I couldn't understand where his command of the strike zone was compared to last year...he'd come in then firing nothing but strikes
 
don't forget, Clase was a cheater down in Texas for PEDS before Cleveland traded for him...I remember thinking at the time, great, he's probably only a hard thrower because of them but obviously that was not the case...Cleveland completely ripped off the Rangers by getting him for a washed Corey Kluber but now the joke is on us because he and Ortiz have likely destroyed both the on-field success and off-field integrity of the organization
