Mono

So this girl I've been hooking up with just called me and told me she has mono, which means that I have a spectacular chance of also having it. Two questions:

1) For anyone that has had mono, did you drink? I know you're not supposed to, but I'm in college and well... I'm in college. But, if there's a serious health risk I'll stop, at least until spring break.

2) What's the risk of playing tennis? I know contact sports shouldn't be played because of the risk of spleen rupture, but what's the story on tennis? I've never once had an opponent jump the net and come after me with his racquet, so I really don't see much danger in playing, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks.

First of all, get checked and see if you have it. Don't make all these assumptions without knowing. You probably do because most of the world's population gets the virus some time in their lives.

boy, if you have mono, you definitely would not have the energy to go partying or play tennis. mono saps the energy out of you and you spend 3/4 of the day sleeping.

I plan to get checked in the next week or so. I'm actually not sure that I haven't got it before because, when I checked the symptoms (including the extreme fatigue), I realized that I may have been through at least two weeks of the acute symptoms last semester. However, because the symptoms are not unlike that of the common cold, I can't be sure. Anyway, moral of the story is that I'm going to get tested but crossing my fingers nonetheless.

Well now that would be a problem because I have class or work Mon.-Thurs. and practice every night.

A girl last year in our school had a bad case of mono...missed around 1/3 of the year of school. Her grade in latin was a 2.18 because of all the missed assignments...

I play D1 tennis at my school and had mono last spring....I lost about 20 pounds, had night sweats, swollen glands...The athletic trainers kept me out of tennis for almost 6 weeks, so I would not recommend it, and as far as drinking goes, mono messes with your liver functions, so I would not recommend that either.
