Albert Montanes plays Jose Acasuso in the other semifinal of Sopot. Montanes has had some good showings on clay this year in smaller events, with finals in Casablanca (getting crushed by Mathieu in the final) and 2 other semis. His biggest win by far was beating Fernando Gonzalez in the quarters of Vina del Mar, the week after Gonzalez was coming off that amazing run to the finals of the Australian Open. At 26 he is still looking for his first ever tour title.
Acasuso has had mostly a forgettable year. He is currently ranked #72, his worst ranking in over 2 years. His biggest wins of the year were vs Ljubicic in the 2nd round of Rome, when Ljubicic was still ranked in the top 10, and over Youzhny in the 2nd round of the Pacific Life when Youzhny was pretty hot at the time.
