Since Brat played almost 5 hours today, the result should be a formality.

Man, a fresh Rune might make this match quite interesting. But now, we have to combine his two marathon matches with his questionable endurance. It's unfortunately going to be ugly for Rune. He will be way too gassed to make a match out of it. I wouldn't be surprised if Sinner won 6-3, 6-2.
Rune seriously needs to work on his stamina. You can't get tired so easily at 22.

Rune's talent vs. Sinner's boredom, the 2 most opposite players on tour.
Though Rune is less talented than Alcaraz.

Whatever happens, I'm glad it's happening. Haven't seen Rune vs. a top flight opponent in a while. Despite Rune falling off from his previous highs, he's still obviously very talented and has a lot of potential.
Yes. Rune is getting crapped on for no reason. He is just 20

Holger has played 5 sets in 2 matches in a span of 8 hours today, crazily unfair scheduling.
Retracting this: "This whole tournament is fixed and corrupt; makes Craig Tiley look like a model of fairness. I'm not even sure I'll bother to watch the rest of the event. I may not watch the event again until the tournament director is deposed:"
It turns out the bow-legged fool is not only defending next week in Munich, but he decided to play doubles with Fritz this week and so he'll be playing his doubles match tomorrow after the singles match.

Longest Matches In Monte-Carlo History

Bruguera d. Becker, 1991 Final4 hours, 12 minutesBest of 5
Nadal d. Federer, 2006 Final3 hours, 50 minutesBest of 5
Rune d. Dimitrov, 2024 3R3 hours, 30 minutesBest of 3

And of course this doesn't include the continuation of the previous match for 1.5 sets.:cautious: Technically his is the longest match since the other two are Best of 5 finals.

Quite the start from Sinner in the first set, then the rain set in and it became quite cold. Extended highlights

Some fairly flat hitting by Sinner but he found more errors than linear penetration. He can play with more shape now, moves better and his service game is more consistent and varied. Loved that sharp backhand roll against Struff, usually you see only one-handers doing that.

Tomorrow warm and no rain in sight, good for powerful clay tennis.

Actually the bow-legged fool is playing doubles as well tomorrow and defending in Munich next week; good think you can't play two tournaments at once, but he did do that in Monte Carlo back a few years ago.:-D Sinner learned his lesson last year and won't be playing next week.

If Sinner loses to Rune tomorrow he officially sux on clay.;)

Not really, Monte Carlos masters have been a bad indicator of RG performance lately. I believe Sinner should Win RG if Nadal doesn't come firing all cylinders. Anyway, you voted Rune? Didn't know you were a Rune fanboy

Rune's best surface is clay.
Sinner's worst surface is clay.
Rune should do all he can to not lose this match to be part of the new big 3.

Sinners worst surface is clay guaranteed.

Rune's best might be clay but I can't say with guarantee. He is very young. He played well indoors for 2 years similar to Tsitsipas before.

Need more evidence.

On 8 June 2019 Rune defeated Toby Alex Kodat to win the 2019 French Open boys' singles title.
Yet I think he plays too passive on clay and will be Casper's pigeon with that same style.

I don’t think it’s going to be close this time, Sinner has improved a lot while Rune is more or less the same, dare I say even worse

Rune is going to be more tired, otherwise he has the natural game on clay to play Sinner well on these courts. Sinner is better, but not by much on clay IMO.

Ok then even if you are right , this match is not some must win match for rune. He is 20. He is improving. Today he won 2 back to back matches and played almost 5 hrs. Tomorrow he is playing and will give all that is has got. If he loses it's still a step in correct direction.

Will depend on how he plays than the score line. Don't be hasty.

this is 2024 Sinner, the best player on the planet.

I don't say he is not the best player in form right now, but on clay the gap will be closer. It's Rune's best surface and Sinner's worst surface. Rune just beat a very playing Dimitrov here. But Sinner will win.

back-to-back wins against Nagal and Dimi (on clay) is not a confidence builder.
He needs to do this against the long-time top 10 players. Dimi just got back in top 10 from a hc run.
- Rune loss to Med in the Rome masters last year was a match I think he should've won but he made bonehead mistakes against someone who hates clay.

Sinner in straights, max 7/8 games for Rune

He can ask Patrick and Simona for tips on that

How is Holger overhyped? Please explain.

He's the new Thiem

29 April like my friend

aww. Aneke was so close, only 9 days too late lol

Yes. Rune is getting crapped on for no reason. He is just 20

Oh there are reasons lol

Did you see how annoyed Dimitrov was with him when he started complaining about the balls on Grigor's serve?

@Hitman Sinner played at a higher level than Rune at his age to be honest with you. He needs to get his act together if he wants to keep up with Sinner.

His Wimbledon 2022 and USO 2022 performances are examples of that.

Rune's issue is more mental, he has a very complete game. Yes, you are right, he needs to step up, but he is probably the only with the potential to actually do that.

Talk about BS scheduling for tomorrow, Rune plays second match when it should be the first evening match. No way in hell should Novak be playing after Rune. Holger was on court for two matches and 4.5 hours. Djokovic had an easy straight-setter over Musetti.

Court Rainier III
Stefanos Tsitsipas (12) vs Karen Khachanov (15)
Holger Rune (7) vs Jannik Sinner (2)
Novak Djokovic (1) vs Alex de Minaur
(11) Ugo Humbert (14) vs Casper Ruud (8)
