LOL. OK.

On a side note, I think Alcaraz will win back his Barcelona title next week.
Sadly I won't be surprised if he withdraws. I hope he doesn't but after winning his first Monte Carlo he might take a breather before he goes to Madrid where he's won twice before. And then going into Rome where he's surprisingly only played once with a 3R showing.

I hope i'm wrong!

I don't think he will, he absolutely loves playing in Barcelona and he will want to gain back those 500 points there. That clay court really suits his game, and I think he want to build that aura before Sinner comes back.

Congratulations to Alcaraz who despite some blackouts has shown for the umpteenth time that he is the strongest of the moment on this surface.
The feeling on clay is that fate depends exclusively on him.
He allows himself moments in which his impetuosity and his not so developed tennis IQ gifts unforced errors to his opponent, other moments in which he annihilates the unlucky player of the moment with winners and inhuman recoveries.
Winning 3 sets against him on this surface requires an expenditure of psychophysical energy that only one player at the moment can think of taking on, and that is Jannik Sinner, who on clay can be what Djokovic was for Nadal, and like Djokovic with Nadal even in that matchup you knew that to beat the Spaniard you had to play the perfect match.

Sorry for Musetti, he deserved to close the tournament in a different way, but he still leaves with his head held high.
In the first set he asked a lot of his body and added to the fatigue of the previous days, in the long run his body presented him with the bill. Let's hope it hasn't compromised the next tournaments.

Stupidly forgot that Barcelona is a home tournament for him so yeah, hopefully he doesn't withdraw!

Alcaraz now #1 in the 2025 race rankings leapfrogging 4 spots to the top spot on 2410 points. He still has Barcelona, Madrid and Rome potential points to come while Sinner is benched because of his ban for doping!

Huge change of things.

Djokovic won 3 sets against him 2 years back and 2 straight sets last year on clay. So don't count him out yet.

And one player who can certainly beat him is Fils is he maintains his level for a long time.

Plus Sinner as you said

Alcaraz gets stronger as matches progress and this is the story all event. That is why I see no one beating him at RG on clay over 5 sets. He physically stronger than the rest and his level improves. Congrats alcaraz and a statement Monte Carlo title run for him when he needed this after a barren run. He’s the man to beat on clay again.
Wouldn’t surprise me in the least for Novak to blitz him

Good to note that in 2010, when RAFA completed the clay sweep of the 3 Masters and RG, that was the only time he skipped Barca.

Sinner will play Rome, so only Barcelona and Madrid left.

If Djokovic were physically the one of 2023 I would have no doubts in indicating him as the main alter ego of Alcaraz in view of Roland Garros, but we know that he is not the one of 2023, even if in a singles match he can still cause problems for anyone on any surface.

Gladly, the drought is over. Welcome back, Carlitos!!!

Was the final good? What were the takeaways
It wasnt. Alcaraz was an UE machine in the first but managed to settle in the second. Musseti was unlucky to get injured early in the third and that was it. The match did not live up to the expectations.

MONTE CARLOS
Heh, heh, clever message in the crowd the other day - I'd say, MONTE CARLITOS! Superb stuff for Carlitos to clinch the win, as he has not been playing at his best. I suspect it will be a much needed boost. If so, it may provide the much needed impetus for the remaining season. I certainly hope so, and look forward to his endeavours.

Carlitos has now won 18 ATP tour titles, and this is his 6th Masters 1000. Excellent stuff.

However, as the dude said on the TennisTV.Com courtside interview, it was sad that Lorenzo went out this way - compromised due to something with his leg. Having done so well all week, most unfortunate that he couldn't contest the 3rd set as he would ordinarily have done. I hope he'll take away his valiant efforts in the tournament. and the excellent win in the sf as the true reflection of his abilities. As Carlitos pointed out in his winner's speech, Lorenzo is building a family life too - he's only 23, and has a child. Looking forward to how he does when he plays again.

From the ATP site:

Yah man, agreed, with the caveat that other's are also jostling for position and Jannik returns soon. There is no certainty, but it may be that this win will propel Carlitos onwards to better outcomes.
Exhilerating shotmaking (as expected).

Yeh... Alcaraz is worth tuning in for.
True for me too, man. Enjoy watching the kid play, and the bonus here was that for the first set, Lorenzo's game was on too.

Congrats to Carlitos, miffed about Musetti's loss. Lolo was sadly hampered, forcing him to continue a tendency to suffer blow-outs in the deciding sets.

Clay enables Carlos to dig in his heels deep indeed, coming back with garra, class and stamina. Great quality tennis with riveting rallies, what a change from the boring Miami final serve shootout.

This has been the story of Carlos's career. Feels his way into matches with uneven play in the early sets then gets stronger as the match progresses and he physically and mentally wears down the opponent, this is what the best players of the past have been known to do Djokovic namely. We hadn't seen much of this of him since the Gold Medal loss so it was nice to see some vintage Carlos appear again even though the field was weak.

Has to be one of the weakest Masters1000 draw ever, lol. 1 BYE, 1 qualifier, 2 injured players, a world number #43 in the semis... Zero top-10.
Imagine all the criticism if one of the big-3 won a Masters with such a draw today...
Congrats but it really doesn't give any indication about his level... In comparison Draper and Mensik had to beat 3 or 4 top-10 in order to win IW/Miami...

Did Ferrero sort it out? Couldn’t watch.

Oh wait, I already know the answer. Of course not. Ferrero let his young charge throw the first set and then Carlos’s sheer physical advantage made the difference.

18th ATP singles title for Alcaraz (placing him 6th in the list of current players with titles) and 2nd this season, 6th at Masters 1000 level (placing him joint 10th with Medvedev in the all time list) and 1st since winning 2024 Indian Wells. He is the 6th different Spanish player to win the title in Monte Carlo in the Open Era (joining Orantes, Bruguera, Moya, coach Ferrero and Nadal). With 10 big titles he is now joint 2nd with Zverev in the list of current players with big titles (both still well behind Djokovic).

No one should dare bash Carlitos till at least rg

He has won MC Barcelona Madrid and RG already. Along with Buenos Aires and maybe rio ??

The guy will OWN clay like Spaniards should.

9 out of 19 titles on clay

3 out of 6 masters on clay

2 out of 4 500s on clay.

Raz will likely retire as mini Nadal if sinner hammers him out of clay. Let's see.

The big showdown is now set.

Can Lorenzo continue his dream, does he have what it takes to stop the ascension of Alcaraz into the dynasty of clay immortals?

Its Musetti....Its Alcaraz....

The explosive showdown is up next, on Dragon Ball Z!!!

Just saw the news. This is the first time I have been correct in my choice of who would win!

Maybe this is a good lesson to Musetti. Don’t get into long drawn out wars with opponents when you can end the matches sooner. It basically cost him the title. Chances are he wins today if he doesn’t gas out

A good lesson but also "battle testing"

He finished out the match, didn't quit. Gave it all. He thrashed Carlos in the first set, so he has a lot to be fired up about.

Can Musetti be in the top 8 if he does well in Madrid and especially in Rome before RG?

Well it's not like a new Coach will be able to tell Alcaraz stop doing the ear cupping after a great point, stop putting yourself in a 0-30 or 15-40 every of his service game and stop going for big shots even when they are important points.

No coach will ever fix that side from Alcaraz because it's in his blood/natural instinct to play this way.

I'm not abreast of points calculations but he will be #11 after this match. Not sure what he's defending at those events -- ok I checked and he was out in R64 both times. He should be able to gain some good points then
