Who will win in Monte-Carlo?

The third Masters 1000 of the season,first on clay, starts on Sunday 12th.
Rafael Nadal is the defending champion and he is looking for his 5th consecutive title in Monte-Carlo.
He already is the only player to win this event 4 times but he could improve his own record with another title this year.

PLAYERS NOT PARTICIPATING: Roddick, Blake, Tsonga, Gonzalez, Gasquet are the most relevant.
Unless they changed their mind, that's what the latest info said.

MAIN DRAW WILDCARDS: Federer, Hewitt, Ljubicic, Lisnard.

The main draw ceremony will take place on Saturday 12 p.m. (local time).

as always im going long shot in my picks, but ive got a feeling ...... again
 
I pick Simon, because it would have been too easy to pick Nadal.

This year, I believe, Simon will do better on clay than he has done in the past.

His ranking should improve after the French Open. He got crushed in the first round by Stepanek last year 6-2 6-4 6-1.
 
I'm going to go against the man who has won every match here since 2005 and pick...

Nico Almagro - on his road to the 2009 Roland Garros title.
 
I'm with Del Potro. The first of his next 4 title wins. I know, crazy, but am tired of Nadal and clay. And the season is just getting started too. Looking forward to Murray stumbling around clay.
 
its always more fun to vote for someone other than the favorite unless its your personal favorite player.


nadal is most likely got this in the bag but pulling for him is gonna be boring with his dominance.

pulling for a half underdog who has to fight for every point every match later in the tourney is much more fun for me.

Murray will be fun to check out on clay but, im dying to see isner on clay this year. 6'7" and sliding around, i just wanna check that out.
 
It will be Nadal unfortunatly. The only place on clay I could even possibly see him losing is Madrid (If he even plays there).
 
I think Nadal will win but I would like to see someone else win perhaps Murray. If anyone is going to challenge Nadal on clay, hopefully Murray can.
 
I fully expect Nadal to win, but I am going to vote with my heart and pick Federer to win his first Monte Carlo title.
 
Nadal will win of course. I just hope Verdasco and Federer have nice runs too. And I hope Murray is in Rafa's half :twisted:.

good art work... the spanish pastry chef almost managed to recreate the ultimate uglyness of the original one. :)

It'd be a brave man that'd pick anyone other than Rafa, it's an interesting quarter for him, looks like he'll meet either Monfils or DelPo in the 1/4s

Murray again on Rafas side of the draw, though I doubt many see him going to the semis. Nalby, Cilic and Davydenko all in that quarter which should be fun. I'm hoping Davy gets a good run and isnt hampered by injury problems.

Djokovic vs Almagro could be an interesting match up, Nando and Ferrer are also in that 1/4. Not sure who I really fancy there, Djokovic and Nando can be up and down lately, whilst Almagro is great on clay and Ferrer is very consistant

Fed's quarter has some interesting matches, Wawrinka starts out vs Troicki and may well meet Andreev in the round after. Assuming he gets through that there's then a match up vs Roger. I'd quite like to see the possible Simon vs Roger match up in that 1/4, since it'd be an interesting test for Federer and if Gilles can come through it then it's a good resut for him.
 
I am dissapointed Murray is in Nadal's half. :(

I wanted to watch him school fed again, but the organisers have been unfair with him by putting him in the same half as Nadal. Lets see how he plays against Nadal in the semi final.
 
For Federer it will be one of those tourneys where he will either loose early on,not adjusting to well on clay or winning an ugly match just like last year against Hidalgo and getting to the finals

Well the draw has been fair actually, considering Djokovic should have been #2 seed before Federer got a WC.

Tough draw for Djokovic. Almagro, Ferrer and Verdsco are all in his 1/4.

I agree. The altitude there will benefit the big hitters when playing nadal. Sam Querry gave him some trouble there last year in Davis Cup.

i was under the assumption seeded players were put the same place according to their seeds every tourney

It's amazing how many people think this, but it's wrong I'm afraid. 3 and 4 are drawn at every tournament. That's how come Murray was drawn to play Roger in IW semis but Rafa in Miami semis.
 
This draw is excellent! I hope Murray makes it to the semis and gets spanked by Nadal. And the other semi, which will probably be Fed-Djoker will give us some idea of who is going to be #2 on clay this year.

Novak has to get past almagro and ferrer or verdasco before he can take on Roger - that won't be easy.

Not sure Murray will make semis.

Almagro, Ferrer and Verdasco are not better than Djokovic on clay. That's not to say he can't get eliminated, but if I had to bet, I would say Djoker makes the semis.
I hope Murray gets to semis but it'll be difficult like you say.

Murray's going down to either Nalbandian or Davydenko.
