Lol. What a let down of a final. All on Rublev I am afraid. Tsisty was top of the drawer.

I had Tsits winning anyway but that was not great from Rublev. He ran out of gas but I don’t know if he would have beaten Tsitsipas anyway.

Congrats to Stef.

Certainly not the result Rublev would have wanted, but still a great tournament for him. Beating Nadal on clay should come with its own trophy even if you don't win the tournament.

Big moment for Tsitsipas too, obviously. He's been making strides in the majors, but underperforming in terms of winning titles since that YEC in Nov 2019. He needed to get back on the board with a big title.

Good for Tsitsipas. Maybe he’s starting to live up to his potential. He looked unbeatable throughout the tournament. Can he bring that to the slams? Yet to be seen.

We would definitely need to see him against a tougher line up and put under pressure.

Rublev fans: Aren't you disappointed when he can't adjust in any way?
Not really.

The vast majority of top pros play their regular game whether they are losing or winning, and Rublev is no different. Winning at this level is more about executing your A game well enough to come out on top rather than changing your A game, and today Tsitsipas executed his own game better than Rublev executed his.

Even if Rublev wanted to adjust mid-match, I'm not sure he has any other shots to use.

Put on an amazing show? Tsitsipas does not need to do the media's hyperbolic work for them.

Yeah. Rublev is simply the lesser clay player.

Ultimately I think considering his strengths and weaknesses his forehand is actually not big enough for what it's supposed to do on clay

I don't know if it can interest some people here, but I follow a french tennis show on Youtube (it's called "Sans filet"), and yesterday one of the journalists, (who was this week at Monte Carlo) reported that, apparently, Tsitsipas has a very strange relationship with his father, and his mother as well. Apparently before the matches his father is talking to him endlessly and Tsitsipas ignore him and stay silent all the time. He also said that (according to him), Tsitsipas does not talk to a lot of players on the tour, it seems among them he doesn't really have friends. I don't know but maybe one day he would have to get rid of his father at one stage of his career

It's all falling into place for Novak. Nadal is out of form, and Novak would eat guys such as Titspas and Rublev for breakfast in slams.

He absolutely must if he is going to really grow into himself and become the player he could be.

meh, knee jerk reaction -- he was the lesser player today.

overall they are very evenly matched and their history reflects this. they'll both win some and lose some vs each other on any surfraais.
I think that's for HC.

Tsitsipas' win% is like 11% higher on clay going into MC. And that's with Rublev playing summer clay a lot more.

Nadal is still extremely likely to win RG, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Tsitsipas came in 2nd place this year. Short of Djokovic I don’t think anyone is better on clay than him, and Tsitsipas had a tough match with him last year. He also had that epic with Wawrinka a few years ago so he’s been giving solid performances at RG.

I might like to see a match between Thiem and Tsitsipas, but I think Tsitsipas would probably win if they played at RG now.

yeah, career numbers, because Rublev played and lost plenty at the ATP level back in like 2015. Not very relevant to where they are now.

We are talking about the here and the now and their recent runs on clay are virtually identical..

Evans and Rublev really cleared the path for him nicely. Can't help but notice how much more stunning runs Mad Lad and Zverev had for some of their Masters titles. But he did his job, no sets dropped this week and showed before that he can play some strong tennis on clay. So congrats to the philosopher.

Zverev’s masters titles weren’t stunning at all lol. He beat a terrible Djokovic for one, and a crippled Federer for another. And then a horrible Thiem in Madrid.

And when did Med win a Masters. I can’t remember.
