Monte Carlo Masters pullouts

I wonder if there are some $$$ issues with all the last minute pullouts this year at beautiful Monte Carlo ? Andy Roddick, James Blake and Mardy Fish withdrew very late and Roger Federer and Andre Agassi pulled out earlier

Monte Carlo Withdrawals

No matter how "beautiful" Monte Carlo is, after Scottsdale, Indian Wells, Miami, Davis Cup (for some) and Houston...don't you think Roddick, Fish, Blake and Ginepri just needed a break?

well, James Black and Mardy Fish aren't in a luxury position to be taking off a Masters Series event.

they are a faint blip (at best) on the radar screen as far as the Champions Race goes.

Pity about Agassi and Federer as they were genuine threats. The others probably wouldn't be favorites. Roddick and Fish have certainly played a lot of tennis recently and if they want a break then I can't blame them.

I can definately see why Roddick pulled out, he just seemed kinda done with tennis for awhile after that Houston final. Agassi never plays Monte Carlo, but what bout Federer? I don't see any reason why he's not here, anyone know why?

Roger is pacing himself and Andre is not playing any clay tournaments until the French Open.

And why do you guys always assume it's about money? Have you bothered to notice that the young Americans (Fish, Blake, Roddick) have been playing a lot of tennis (in Roddick's case, he's played the most tennis so far this year) and wouldn't have had a day to recover from Houston to play clay in Monte Carlo where they probably would've crashed out in the first round anyways due to jet lag and exhaustion? Even Marat Safin commented on the crazy schedules players are pressured to keep.

Common sense, people.
