That's a good 1st serve %, he brought it back up after the 1st set. That's also a sick W/Ue ratio for clay.

MC is absolutely swarming with spaniards,Rafa,Verdasco,Ferrer,Montanes are through and there is a decent chance that JCF will also come through as well.

Is there anyone that can stop Nadal when he is in this form? I don't think Soderling can repeat his lights out performance from last yer.

I agree with you on Soderling. On Nadal though I wouldnt judge much until he runs into a legit opponent. We have seen on hard courts since he returned from injury some dominating performances vs non elite opponents, but still far better than the two clowns he has played here so far, and then it comes crashing down vs his first real opponent. Of course hard courts is not clay, especialy for Nadal, but I wouldnt judge a thing yet.

I agree, i wouldnt just too much either. But he does look really good so far. I am also curious to see how he'd do against top opponents (though i do think he'll do well).

I wont be surprised if he does look really good against the tougher opponents and we can say atleast on clay Nadal is really back. That wouldnt surprise me at all in fact. Just dont think we can do that at this point.

I think there are really only 1 or 2 questions left, important ones, about his fitness and his ability to stay healthy over a long stretch. The fact is that most of the guys who have beaten him this year (except for davydenko) have for the most part beaten him with their serve (murray, ljubcic, roddick) and that's just not that important on clay. We will find out soon enough. :))

The second shot I admire the most in Nadal's arsenal after the wicked banana shot is the DTL forehand bomb to the left corner, as impossible to return as a laser-like flat forehand winner. It's been a looooong while since I have seen this shot consistently in play and these two days the magic is happening again.

It is true that Nadal's opponents so far are making easy for him to produce quality shots, but one can always hope.

Hey, the easier the early matches come along for Rafa, the better!

It's really been as easy of an effort as it could be for him to reach the QF's in Monte Carlo. Can't complain, though, as a Nadal fan.

wtf! Fererro leading 2-1* with Tsonga having love hold, then I go eat something and now its 6-1 Ferrero..I know Tsonga's bad on clay but cmon man lol..

Anyone think that Nadal will have some trouble next round if he plays Ferrero for instance? I mean so far Nadal hasn't even been slightly tested and it could possibly backfire when he plays a top 20 player next round especially a decent CC player like Ferrero. I doubt this would happen but with Nadal and all his problems lately you never know...

I dont really think Ferrero has anything to hurt even an iffy Nadal with at this point. That is why they play the matches though.

The next few rounds get more interesting.

Nadal vs Ferrero. The first mini test on how Nadal is really playing. Also some idea if Ferrero really anything left to make one last push in his career.

The winner of that likely playing Verdasco. Can Verdasco hold up mentally and finally do something really big at a Masters. Is there anything he could do to beat Nadal, who he has never beaten on any surface, on clay.

Then the other half Nalbandian vs Djokovic if they play could be interesting. Then the winner of that likely to play David Ferrer.

Pretty sure you're reading the draw wrong.
It's Nadal to play Ferrero/Tsonga, winner of that to play Ferrer/Petzschner/Kohli
And then Nalbandian to play Djokovic/Wawa, winner of that to play winner of Verdasco/Montanes

Awww ok thanks. Verdasco has a chance to make the final then perhaps. Glad Ferrer is in Nadal's half, he plays Nadal the hardest of all the other Spaniards. I am not rooting against Nadal, but I want to see him get the stiffest opposition possible and gauge his form.

Nadal deserves some opposition after Berrer and de Bakker! He must be bored ...

Anyone else feel like the grunting in the men's game is getting a little out of control ?

Tsonga-Ferrero is just a grunt-fest, Verdasco was incredibly loud this morning, and Youzhny-Nalbandian had to be muted, same for Tsonga-Almagro. I guess it makes them feel better? Seems a bit excessive to me. At least it's a bit easier on the ears than the women's shrieks.

Last time they played, Ferrero gave Nadal a beating. And yes, don't remind me as I already know Nadal was deeply hurt during the match.
I know. I expect Nadal to have another loss like that one later in the clay season, as long as he keeps this dumb schedule. But not in MC.

The camera angle that's behind Wawrinka now (left side of the chair) shows this Serbian fan who's wearing Serbian colors and is so excited about the Djoker he stands up and shakes his fist every time the Djoker scores a point. LOL. He's wearing a red shirt and a blue cap.

Noticed it too, first it was hilarious, now it's only annoying. :D

his blue gear from last year was gorgeous. stan is on top here but he's letting nole off the hook at crucial stages like 30-30/duece on the djokovic serve.
by the way, if wawrinka was an animal he'd be a hedgehog. always reminds me of one
