I don't see Ferrer folding up, it is just that Nadal is having a good day today, hitting with a lot of pace and spin near the lines and running down everything David throws back. There's no much anyone can do.

Which is a pity. With all respect to Verdasco, if perhaps Djoker's BH and serve are also inspired we can have an epic tomorrow, here's hoping.

Good to see Nadal playing so well. I still cant believe people even argue me on the weak clay court field of today though. Other than Nadal, Federer (of only 2005-2007 arguably), and at times Djokovic who the heck is any good on clay today?

Ferrer is taking extra risks to keep Nadal off-balance and that, of course, translates in more UEs, but it is his only chance in this situation, as Flo Serra tried to do with Fed in Miami, for instance.

Ferrer's relatively short height must make Nadal's topspin very uncomfortable, and Rafa's groundstrokes are really clicking today, especially the CCBH and the FHDTL.

I agree... Rafa's CCBH today has been very AO-2009.

I don't think Nadal is playing very good. Ferrer makes a lot of mistakes, but I'm sure that Djokovic won't do that. Djokovic has a good chance to beat him.
It's interesting that this week I didn't see any fist pumping from Rafa. On the hard courts he was doing that at every great point that he won.

A final push by Ferrer? :)

Nadal's strong TS FH to Ferrer's BH is giving him all kinds of problems

Ferrer broke him twice in this set, despite the fact that he's playing bad tennis. Rafa won't win the title.

UE machine, Spaniard rolling Ferrer has broken twice this set. Granted he has been broken thrice, but not bad for such a terrible, cowardly performance : - P

On a side note, what is this, WTA?

2 MP's for Rafa

6-2, 6-3 Nadal

Rafa onto another Master's final!

He was playing pretty much the same tennis last year around this time and managed to win MC-Barcelona-Rome anyways.

You honestly think Rafa is playing bad tennis? Geez, wonders shall never cease.

I think he meant Ferrer was playing poorly (which he wasn't) :)

Rafa is playing aggressive clay court tennis and pressured Ferrer the entire match.

oh comeon CMM even when Rafa won every single title in sight he still had tough matches and got broken. one of the things I began to adore about rafa was that he always fought really hard to win his matches. it was never a walk in the park.

VAMOS RAFA! Oh it's so goood to see after so long.

In the second set, yes. I don't think that he can keep the same intensity for an entire match. He starts great but as the match goes on, he starts to make more mistakes and he starts to hit short. At the end of this match his returns were vary bad and he was lucky that Ferrer made lots of mistakes. I don't even want to think what will happen when/if he will be pushed to a third set.
That's what I saw.

I actually though Ferrer was playing pretty badly. I was watching it on and off and I was surprised at alot of the easy errors he was making. Of course Nadal would win regardless how he played, and I would still favor Nadal in the final on this form.

And Djokovic is known for pure consistency throughout a match...

LOL!

You have way too much angst here. Rafa's got as good a chance as any to win this thing, the way he's playing of late. There's no way I'd lay money today on him losing tomorrow.

Well from what I've seen, Rafa is playing very well. He must be under a lot of pressure at the moment with everyone and their mother either banging on about (a) how he hasn't won a title in yonks or (b) how he's in line for a record 6 consecutive MC title or (c) both! . Can't be easy with all the expectation and anticipation on his shoulders but so far he's coped fine and has just played his game. And it's been a pleasure watching him do that this week, as it almost always is watching Rafa on clay.

are you one of those negative folks putting a dampener at every chance in the Rafa forum? They **** me off.

I agree mate. I don´t know why, but rafa was known for being consistent more than anything, while nowadays (IW and Miami recently) he seems to drop his level throughout the match. He is more aggresive and his groundstrokes are ,i´d say , better than ever (a bit better serve), but he is not that fit any more. Plus, on big points, he chokes a little which was unthinkable 2 years ago

????? Then you don't understand clay. It's perfectly normal to have more breaks on this surface. And it's a surface that requires a lot of patience and cunning, you're not gonna hit the perfect shot every time throughout a match, noone does. BTW the last couple of years Rafa has needed 3 sets to beat Ferrer. Today was his easiest match against him by far...
