Monte Carlo should be downgraded to a 500 or 250.

Not true
Being a non mandatory tournament it leaves the field weak. Basically you need to play 8 mandatory masters and I think 4 500s. But if you play mc it replaces 1 500.

It's a 500 event. Just a little bigger. Also will not be 2 weeks long. This year only this event and maybe Paris but not sure, were 1 week long. It's a small cat of masters

Yeah since 2019 only Fognini, Rublev and Tsissy have won it. Small potatoes tournament nowadays.

Doesn't award money have something to do with the designation of a tournament?

Given how rich that area of the world is :cool:
and given how Monte Carlo is easily the most attractive location in tennis,
its closer to being a Slam than any other Masters event!
 
MC is the symbol that we have entered the clay court season. It is a special way to kick off the run to RG. It needs to stay as it is.
