After several epics for both in the earlier rounds, we've got an interesting semifinal. Zverev won the only meeting in Washington 2017 SF by 63 64.

Meh, I'll just go with Zverev in 3. Seems like a relatively safe pick this season, he seems like he's starting to embrace the scrap.

I think from the look of it Zverev must be gassed by now while Nishikori has actually found some very good form himself. If he's not too tired tomorrow I think he will take this, probably in straights.

Maybe, still he's a young player and they recover quicker from tough matches. It's not like Nishikori fitness isn't suspect at times either. I hope for a good one but yeah good result from Zverev nonetheless, making it this far.

Also want Nishikori because he has by far the more impressive route to the semis: Berdych, Medvedev, Seppi and Cilic. Whereas Zverev was hanging onto his life and can barely hold serve against Struff and Gasquet.

I think to someone like Zverev it's as much mental as it is physical. When I watched him at the Hopman cup at the beginning of the year, most of my hope for a breakthrough at slams from him this year was gone. He was easily and quickly gassed both physically and mentally. I have little doubt that he has the heart and mind of a champion and his game can only improve. But physically he's simply at disadvantage and he definitely can't afford to have too many of those meltdowns towards the end of tough matches.

Still, it seems he's now back on track again, albeit slowly, which is good to see.

Any player's improvement or comeback is even more welcome atm.

Great to see Nishikori making a run in a bigger tournament again, really hope he can kick on and get back to where he was in and around the top few places and making runs, hopefully picking up a slam somewhere sure would be nice.

Looking for this to be the competitive match of the day. Poor Grigor will be destroyed once more.

I give Nishikori the slight edge.

I think that Luxilon 4G is killing Kei's wrist. he needs to stop using that thing and go to full Bed All Natural gut if he wants to save his wrist and what's left of his career

Good signs for Kei, making a semifinal. Though he should withdraw from Barcelona. Nadal in Round 3:eek:

Not much to look forward to for this match though, two tired players battling it out for the reward of facing the KoC...

Quite unlucky. Nishi is decent on clay, and his serve gets to be less of a weakness.
Even if he somehow makes a final, he's not winning anything if he has to face Nadal, even Peak Kei would lose 9 times out of 10.

If you were either of these guys, would you rather lose this match in a close 3 setter or make it to the final and get creamed by Rafa?

Congrats to The Tokyo Express on Cilic win, Zverev is defending 2017 title ,unless Zverev has a bad day Zverev in 2 or 3.

Cheers

Hard to say who I want to win this. On one hand I'd like Zverev to win because he's less likely to give a walkover in the final. On the other, I think Nishikori has a better chance at getting a set to 5 games against Nadal.
