IMO this should be a nightmare matchup for Nadal. Medvedev really reminds of 2011 Djokovic by playing style-he can play baseline rallies forever and never misses. Also has a lot of power, a strong serve, also his net game improved a lot. I really want to believe Nadal will think of some plan. If he tries to grind to Medvedev's backhand he is going to lose this match 6-1 6-2.

Expecting a good battle with Rafa prevailing. Securing that 2nd seed for the US Open will be important.

And it would be nice to bury all the never-defended-non-clay-title trivia as well. :p

Wtf? If Nadal gets into baseline exchanges vs Med he's gonna lose 6-0 then retire in the second set out of sheer fear.

I think the 1st set will be very tough to win for Rafa, but then Medvedev will start to lose his focus and make more errors just like today. And his 2nd serve is vulnerable so it shouldn’t be a problem to break, unless he comes out with a 1st serve % higher than 70.

You can laugh as much as you want. Fact is (not an opinion, this is a fact), Medvedev in this tournament plays waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Nadal. If both keep their current levels Medvedev will win easy. But we'll see, the level might change from match to match.

Oh well, the master of wrong predictions strikes again. And of course when Nadal will lose you will escape like you always do.

On paper I think Medvedev is actually a bad match up for Nadal. Big FS and solid from the baseline with a fantastic BH. I hope the Russian can win but I think Bull takes this in 3

Nah I'm serious tho. Med is playing godly tennis right now I don't think Rafa can handle him facing him for 2 sets, Med's level is too scary.

Think Rafa will pull this off in straights. I had fancied Daniil's chances until I saw how nervous he got trying to serve it out against Khachanov and then barely scraping through the 2nd set breaker.

If he gets that nervous trying to close out the semi-final just think how nervous he will probably get trying to close out anything against Rafa in what will be his maiden Masters 1000 final!

Sheet beat Street. Spreadsheet needs to serve well to cover Bull-ets from the baseline.

Good serving Sheet in 3. Bad serving Sheet gets bull-ied in 2.

Sheet didn’t beat Street, Street was just off against Khachanoff and got blasted off the court.

Gael has been a walking injury machine for 10 years now. This wasn't a rest issue, it's a Monfils issue. He wouldn't be in shape to play Rafa right now even with 24 hours rest.

He did find a way to beat RBA despite seeming like he was running on fumes after every point in the 3rd set. Considering the rain delay and the ridiculously short turnaround time between matches, I'm not surprised he withdrew. He probably would have gotten beat by Rafa soundly anyway.

Consistent, I will give you that.

Unlike Karen, Rafa has the variety to beat Med. Plus the moment of Masters Final will be overwhelming for Med. Then again Med has the firepower to trouble Rafa. If the match goes the distance, he may experience fatigue since he is playing in a final for second straight week. So he should try to keep the points short and sweet to have a chance.

Rafa in 2(or 3 sets).
If Med comes with all guns blazing, Med in 2(or 3 sets).

What's up with this "first masters final" thing? It's not a slam final after all. Khachanov played great in his first masters final and won it last year. Yes, Djokovic wasn't at his absolute best, but Nadal is also not at his best right now. So why can't Medvedev do the same? He is the best player in this tournament and he looks like the man to beat. He doesn't have any excuses not to win it, seriously. I'm not buying anything.
