Nadal.

For me he is just a one trick pony. Can't believe so many people obsessed with him and claiming he is goat. All the times he has beaten Federer, fed played horribly with like 50% first serve in. Compare that to the Roddick game 70% aces.

I think it is spanish media. They like to hype therec athletes to heaven, On a Formula 1 forum I frequented it was the same thing with Fernando Alonso. They are religious in their idolization.

I guess if you've got no talent just play left-handed to throw your opponent off.
 
It absolutely is Nadal. The guy has a steady career for a few years winning the FO. Then has one, repeat one, great year, and suddenly he's being compared to guys with twice as many majors. Nevermind the fact that he had to pull out of Wimby, lost his #1 rank, lost to #23 ranked Soderling at his best event. And forget about the Feds 15 majors, 21 semi's, 17 of the last 18 finals, 10 straight finals, now 6 straight finals. Nadal can't even make the finals of 3 majors in one year. Fed WON 3 in one year...3 times, probably 4 this year. And people want to compare them, as if Nadal is that good. He will be another player who had a few above average years, won some majors, and thats all. I don't think he will get to 10 career majors for his career, and not win the US.
 
Roddick for me is one player people have suddenly jumped on the bandwagon of, and he's just a one trick pony with a powerful yet simple serve and an ugly forehand and back hand.
 
I know what you guys mean, its definetly Rafa. 25 million in prize money and 36titles at the age of 23...what a loser.
 
Yeah, how can you disrespect Rafa? He's over come every obstacle that's ever faced him and still wants more. We all know he could win the US Open this year at about 75% fitness, he's that good.

it's easy to only look at the good things in his career
but that's nowhere near Federer which implies that his career sucks big time

He has accomplished a lot by 23, that's true. But there are way too many people lumping him in with the all time greats. The only person ever good enough at their sport by 23 to be talk with the best of that sport is Wayne Gretzky. Nadal has not done enough to be talked about the way he is, that's why he is the most over rated. 6 majors, that gets him 20th all time. 36 wins, 15th all time. And Fed, $50 million at 27, 1st all time. Nadal simply hasn't accomplished enough yet for people to be talking the way they are.
 
First, note that in my mind, to be overrated, you need to be highly regarded in the 1st place. So with that idea in mind, I have a few controversial ones as well. Please note that I consider these players some of the greatest players of all time - yet its the way people seem to use their careers to argue for their GOAT status that makes them overrated. NOTE: I also believe that there's 2 different GOATS. GOAT in achievements and GOAT in skill (1/2 considering the competition and 1/2 considering the type of ball each man hit).

1. Bjorn Borg- in my top 5 for GOAT for skill and achievements BUT will people please stop using his quitting early as an argument for his greatness? Greatness is increased by being able persevere and one is able to overcome adversity, NOT the other way around. Using his quitting early to say "he would have won x number of Slams if he hadn't" is ridiculous- the continual use of this argument makes him overrated.

2. Rod Laver - #2 for accomplishment GOAT, but outside the top 50 in skill. My reasoning is simple, pro tennis today is on a different level than it was 40 years ago. His accomplishment of 2 calendar Slams is unbelievable and its not his fault that the level of play was lower back them BUT being 5'8 there's no way he could compete today. People didn't train as hard or competitively start as early. I don't hold that against him for accomplishments but when people say he's the GOAT, I really don't think deep down inside they think he would be beat Federer.

3. Roger Federer - #1 in both GOAT categories - only on this list b/c people act like in the future that the game won't move on from even Roger's game. Some kid will see Roger play and emulate him but he will be bigger, stronger, faster and if someone one day has the same amazing tennis IQ and hand-eye coordination, that kid will combine these elements with better equipment tech to hit the ball faster, with more spin, etc. I might be wrong but Federer skillwise has been my GOAT for the past 5 years yet I never thought that his game would NEVER be overtaken.

As a Federer fan, I hate the fact that Nadal has even been mentioned here. Nadal's type of game might be the next evolution of tennis and he plays it well. Is it as beautiful or as varied or as dependent on tennis IQ? No, but it doesn't mean its inferior - the key for Nadal will be whether he is able to dominate the field consistently for years to come, particularly after Federer is no longer in every final. Its too early to say he's the GOAT for achievements but there's promise there b/c I'd say he's top 10 for skill already - lets not kid ourselves, there's no way someone from 20 years ago could handle his pace and his spin, even the current GOAT has shown its so hard to handle.
 
Yes I was being sarcastic :) Its just that if you look at hes achievements in hes career so far at such a young age I dont think im overrating If I say hes an awesome player. I guess we are sort talking about a different subject since you want to compare him to Federer. Nadal is not overated. But if you want to make a claim that most ppl rate him higher than Federer, and assuming this claim is true, then yes he is overated...but I havent seen that many people putting Rafa over Federer. Maybe ppl do it in this forum but Ive learned a long time ago that TW is not always at the top when it comes to debates about tennis :)

nalbandian and safin are the most overrated players of all time.nalbandian is forever slamless, he chokes too much. Yet people think that he's one of the greatest players to grace the court. Safin is overrated, he managed to destroy a pete sampras who played like crap, and managed to beat federer on an offday, gimme a break

Agreed. Until he stops choking in the majors hes overrated bigtime.

You cant really blame him though it the damn UK and media overhyping him like hes the next coming of Jesus. Its not Andy's fault hes the only Brit in 30-40 some odd years that actually looks like he might have a chance.

Although I was a fan of Nadal, his fans turned me against him. Way overrated in these forums. People act like he has Federer's or Murray's talent.

He is a great player but won't end up anywhere close to the success of above players because of his one dimensional physical game style.

Results have nothing to do with talent - Talent wise Murray is wayyy above Nadal, and that is a fact.

Andy O. Murray is a bigger talent than Nadal & Federer??????

Murray is nothing but a pusher...Neither is game nor his personality is even a tenth of Nadal!! They are WORLDS apart!

Talk to me when Murray gets half the number of slams Nadal has...Which I bet will never happen!

Murray has a better serve and volley. He has one of the best backhands the game has ever seen. In addition to his all court game, he is as athletic as Nadal.

I would like to know how Nadal is more talented.

Murray is just 22 years old, and is a late boomer like Federer. He has a long career in front of him. It is not appropriate to judge his career now, maybe in 5 years we can have a look and talk about how he achieved or failed to achieve what everyone believed he could.

Murray is not a pusher, far from it. He is one of the smartest players in today's tennis. He prefers to play the game that frustrate his opponent. Therefore he adopts a different strategy against Nadal as against Federer. He can do anything with a tennis ball.

See this is where people get mad at you. Stop trying to compare him to Federer. That's unrealistic and too high of an expectation for him. Didn't you once say he would reach Fed's GS and crush it, or something like that? That just gives people ammo for saying he's overrated.

In Maximo's defense, this is the exact same thing Sampras fans felt about Federer in the early 2000's. We need to realise that Murray isn't your normal average talented player. Many people, because of the immense talent, expect him to achieve a lot of things.

Whether he does, only time will tell.

Im simply pointing out how people just bash him and give him no chance even though he's only 22...

murray is the most over rated player I can think of for sure.

I think he will have a couple more good years and either burn out or start getting injuries.

He's done a whole lot of fitness and off court work to get where he is now, and to stay there he's going to have to maintain that level.

He's not the natural, monster athlete that Nadal is and he doesnt have the kind of talent fed does.

Look at where he was before his new fitness fad.....

I predict a Jim Courier type career arc, only with maybe 2 slams max.
