More Impressive Achievement of Nadal

What do you think would be the more impressive achievement of Nadal, if he won the Australian Open and won each of the four Grand Slams at least twice. Something only Laver and Emerson have done in history. Although, Nadal, of course, would be the only one to do it in the open era.

Or win Wimbledon and be the only player in history to win at least three grand slams on clay, hard, and grass.

How does Federer's achievement of winning three different Grand Slams at least four times each compare to these two achievements?

Why not both? ;)

Kudos to you, for creating a "positive" thread for Nadal. But you just had to mention Federer in this as well, no? :-D

Anyways, Federer's said achievement is truly mind boggling! What a Legend!

Either is great!! both are amazing achievements.

Federer's consistency is mad ridiculous! Thats all there is to say.

Nadal should win another AO and Wimbledon too.

Fed in his best years dominated the tour the way Nadal and Djokovic never could and never will.

He is a fan of both Nadal and Federer which is rare on this forum.

I just really think that his greatest achievement is winning 8 RG titles, and he may yet win more.

Had way too much to drink.

I think he will long be remembered for his clay court prowess, it will be hard for anyone to top his clay expertise.

This. Sampras' grass records or even Fed's slam record won't last decades but Nadal's clay record may not be broken in our lifetime.

What are Sampras' grass records?

Federer is tied with Sampras for most Wimbledons. Federer has the record for most Wimbledon finals. Most consecutive finals and semifiinals at Wimbledon.

Also Federer has won the most grass court titles.

I would be flabbergasted if Nadal's records on clay were broken within even the next 100 years, unless by his own hand.

Again, there he will be remembered for the fact that Federer could win the FO only when not facing Nadal.

Like it or not, Nadal and Federer can never escape being compared to each other.

His clay record, year after year after year.....I think no one will ever do what Nadal has done on clay (even if this era may have been quite weak relative to clay tennis, what the guy has done on it is just unbelievable).

Nadal's biggest achievement was breaking The 500 Barrier in a single match, the 2012 AO final.

Before he came on stage no one ever imagined it could be done. Nobody even did it 100 times in a single match before Nadal. Congrats Nadal for being able to pick your butt over 500 times in a single match! Vamos!

Ok ok I joke I joke :) Nadal's 8 FO titles and his longest clay streak and clay winning percentage will be what he is remembered for. His is by far the undisputed clay courts GOAT.

Anyway, to answer your question:

All Majors at least twice.

I would be flabbergasted if they weren't broken by his own hand next year. It would mean him not winning a single match on clay.

It will indeed be hard to break them, but 100 years? I'm not sure. He's still a couple of Roland Garros titles behind Rosewall's total of major clay-court titles. I don't use this as evidence that Rosewall is greater than him on clay. I'd rather stay agnostic on that question, as it's just impossible to compare such different eras. But the point is that a time may come in 40 or 50 years time (or in 20 or 80) at which someone else does just dominate on clay for a really long time. If it can happen twice, it can happen a third time.

(Had Borg not played his last Roland Garros match days after his 25th birthday, it's pretty clear that he'd have won at least eight titles there, too).

Which achievement is that? Is it the one in your sig?

None of the above. Unless he wins at least two majors 5 times in a row each his chances of being called GOAT are dented by the 'clay bunny' footnote.

He is currently on 4 in a row at the French so will be likely to win a 5th there. But elsewhere?... I doubt it.

By contrast Federer won 5 in a row at 2 majors, concurrently.

It can and does happen, and I appreciate it, and yet I would still be flabbergasted if it were to happen in my lifetime (providing no buses run me over shortly).

Not too sure why that is. I am unsure how, if you really love the game of tennis, you can fail to be impressed by any of the top 5 or 6.

After that, you start to see a few holes in some of their games, which are not so obvious with the guys at the top.

As for the questoion of the OP, both are extremely impressive, and they probably just need to be appreciated for what they are or may eventually become, regardless of what that is.

Nadal's dominance over Djokovic, Federer and Murray in slams is another huge achievement.

Is 8-3 vs Djokovic, 8-2 vs Federer and 5-2 vs Murray (?)

that's insane.

Good point. His habits annoy me tremendously, but they apparently work:twisted: I believe 'when it's said and done' he will be remembered as the GOAT if he ties Fed's 17. Most real tennis fans acknowledge he's gonna be the GOAT.

In 2010, Rafael Nadal became the first male player in the history of tennis to win three Grand Slams on three different surfaces in the same calendar year (French Open, Wimbledon, US Open).

8(and counting) French Opens is just absolutely mind boggling to me - just the thought of someone winning double digit slams at 1 event is just to me 1 of the all time great achievements if it happens, 8 is already in outer space, 10+ would just be obscene

Getting ejected in the first week of Wimby in his prime in two consecutive years is his most impressive achievement.
