Holy crap this thread is a disaster. Anyways, good to know that Pete's streak of winning 1 straight slam is alive and well and that Federer reached 6 straight slam semis from 15-17.

In Fed's case, he did indeed. Sampras is retired but yes he went out on top. What's so confusing about this to people? Match streaks don't see as much scrutiny as Nadal had 41 consecutive at Barcelona despite missing 2010.

No, fed didn't.

As far as match streak goes, you lose a match streak when you :
a) lose a match
b) retire from a match
c) withdraw after the tournament has started. (i.e walkover to opponent)

You do not lose a match streak when you do not play in the tournament.

match streaks at a tournament are different from tournament streaks as abmk said. The whole point of a tournament streak is that you were able to play healthy and high quality tennis for that many tournaments in a row. Nadal had a 20 match winning streak Wimbledon from 08-11 but he did not win two Wimbys in a row from 08-10.
