More Passion

This is my first post. I'm a freshman in highschool and i play tennis and wrestle i have always loved wrestling starting when i could walk. My dad puts enormus pressure on me to wrestle everyday even in the offseason. I just started liking tennis more, I'm kinda of bored on wrestling but my dad never wants me to play tennis all he wants me to do is wrestle im not nearly as good in tennis like i'm in wrestling. What should i do to get him off my back and maybe enjoy tennis more? I have tried father son camp and he left the first day.

Do what you like to do and not what your dad forces you to do. Playing two sports is good so that you don't get burned out on either. I played 4 sports in high school and still play a variety of sports now. It's much healthier to have a variety of interests. You make more friends that way too.

yea i know playing multiple sports is good but I started wrestling in diapers and have tremendous pressure on me every tournament states, nationals, etc. I just want to take a break for 2 weeks of no wrestling but my dad can't take that

Once you are in your 20's and 30's, do you really think you will be wrestling?
Wrestling is a throw-away sport.
Tennis is for life.

I think your dad needs to have a sports psychologist or some other professional explain to him how you can benefit from time away from wrestling in order to avoid burning out. He probably just wants you to go as far as you can with your opportunity in wrestling, but doesn't seem too open to the two way street of talking about this with you. This could ultimately be very counterprodutive for you because your relationship with your dad shouldn't be based soley on that one sport (or any one thing).

You sound like you have a good handle on what you need in your life. Your dad's obsession with the wrestling may or may not be a problem for him, but I think you're aware that it should not become a problem for you. If your enjoyment fades away or you start to really dread what you're doing, make fix! Change what you're doing or change how you're doing it. Rock on!

The OP sounds like he is at a very high level which means he may get a college scholarship in wrestling. If you are really good in college there is always the olympics and world championships. You could always then branch out into WWE or UFC :D

It sounds like that the OP dad is living out his dreams through his son. Always a bad thing for a parent to do to a kid. If you are getting burned out on wrestling don't just keep doing it full throttle or else you will get to a point where you will completely break down.

Yeah, but that's like saying he's at a very high level in tennis, so he could be in the olympics or professional...which most likely isn't going to happen either. But at least you can keep playing for fun. Wrestling for fun is just a little creepy....
