What matches come to mind for a top player losing a lot of consecutive games. Some that come to mind:

McEnroe def Connors. 1980 US Open semifinal. McEnroe was leading 6-4 5-4, before losing 11 consecutive games.

Vilas def McEnroe. 1983 Davis Cup. McEnroe led 4-2 in the first set, before losing 15 consecutive games and losing match 6-4 6-0 6-1

Wilander def McEnroe. 1983 French Open quarterfinal. McEnroe led 4-2 in the third set, before losing 10 consecutive games and the fourth set 6-0.

Nadal def. Federer 2008 French Open final. Nadal led 6-1 3-3, before Federer lost 9 consecutive games and the third set 6-0.

Nalbandian def Nadal 2007 French Open final. Nadal led 4-3 in the first set before Nalbandian won 9 consecutive games.

Nalbandian never played a French open final

I must have missed that one. Is it lost in history or was the footage destroyed?

Yeah, Nalby is the real goat, people are just hushing it up. Because the public is not yet ready for the truth.

Talking about the biggest tennis conspiracy of all time.

The 1980 US Open McEnroe-Connors semi final came to mind straight away. McEnroe had a set point for a 2 set lead, failed to take it, and lost 11 games in a row. McEnroe came back strong from this, though, coming from behind to win the fourth set and served for the match in the fifth set. Connors then broke when McEnroe served for the match and then held to love on his own serve. McEnroe then stayed calm under pressure to hold serve and play brilliantly in the last set tiebreak. McEnroe won 6-4, 5-7, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6.

2012 French Open Final
Rafa up 6-4, 6-3, 2-0 before losing 8 straight games to Djokovic to lose the third set 6-2 and go down 2-0 to open the 4th. Fortunately, rain saved Rafa and he came back to win the 4th 7-5 the next day.

LOL. You mean the 2007 Paris Indoors, yes?

Naw, Nalbandian actually beat Nadal to win the FO title, but there was a cover-up. The ATP couldn't afford to lose its biggest draw so they made a compromise to had Nadal's clay streak end (but instead to Fed in Hamburg), kept Rafa as RG champ and gave Nalbo two masters titles at the end of the year when no one cared in dominating fashion.

TC just exposing the truth

Rain didn't SAVE Rafa, rain, or at least the incoming rain is what turned the conditions and allowed Novak to go terminator mode. They came out the next day to glorious sunshine, and Rafa broke him twice without even thinking about it, and the match was over. God damn rain ruined my schedule:mad: Had to call in sick for work on the Monday. hehehe :D

This is the first one I thought of as well.

And btw rain did not "save" Rafa. Nadal was cruising when it was warm and sunny and would've stomped Djokovic if it stayed that way. And I say that as no true fan of Nadal, as you can see by my avatar.

Nadal led 6-4, 6-3, 2-0, in dry conditions, during the 2012 French Open final against Djokovic. Conditions then got heavier on the court due to persistent drizzle, and Djokovic won 8 games in a row, before Nadal desperately held his serve to trail 1-2 (break down) in the fourth set. That was it for the day. Nadal came back in better conditions the next day, from a break down at 1-2, and won 7-5 in the fourth set.

you mean rain saved djokovic from a straight sets drubbing? Who plays clay Court tennis in the rain?

Successful troll was successful:wink::grin:

I don't think you were actually trolling. You're just saying you are now to try and look smart and save your own a.s.s at the same time.

And maybe to mask the disappointment of what actually happened at the time.

Didn't Nadal get owned by Youznhy 6-1 6-0? I don't know how many games Youz won in a row but it could have been 10 or 11.

Federer also beat Nadal 6-3 6-0 with possibly 9 games in a row for Fed.

Murray also won 8 games in a row against Nadal:

Tokyo 2011 final 3-6 4-2 then Murray won 8 games to make it 3-6 6-2 6-0.

Seems to happen to Nadal more often than the other top players.

How many games in a row did Nadal get against Federer in Rome final last year?

I know RG 08 it was 9 games in a row, possible he could've topped this...

You're right, officials saved Rafa from goating Djokovic who was making greatest comeback ever.

Michael Chang lost 10 consecutive games to Sampras in the 1993 US Open quarterfinal. After splitting the first two sets on tiebreaks Sampras completely blew open the match and ripped Chang apart, score ended 6:7 7:6 6:1 6:1, Sampras had Chang at love 0:30 at 5:0 in the 4th set but Chang saved the blowout.

Technically speaking - Murray won THIRTEEN games in a row against Nadal. The 8 you mention above was followed by Murray winning the first five games the next time they played (Rome QF this year)

There is no record of playing Nalbandian in a French open final. Did you mean the Paris masters?

Rain has saved a lot of players as has heat, wind, and darkness .

Couldn't agree more. Except it was Djokovic who was saved by the rain that day. If it weren't bucketing down, Nadal would've done him in straight sets.

And yes, who could forget the darkness

Nadal lucked out when FO organizers stopped play to give him the 2012 FO.

Novak was on a tear and he would have been a 10 plus major champion by now.

Nadal cannot play indoors, cannot play when there is a drizzle.. He needs perfect conditions with Uncle Toni in position.

Federer won 8 games in a row vs Nadal at the 2011 WTF. From 3-4 down in the 1st set Nadal didn't win another game in the match.

Didn't Sampras lose 8 in a row to Hewitt in the USO final?

6-1 6-1 were the last two sets, so there's plenty of room there.
