Most consecutive games lost by a top player

Another match comes to my mind. The 2004 French Open semi final match between Guillermo Coria and Tim Henman. Henman played great tennis for the first set and a half, taking a 6-3, 4-2 lead. Coria then won 13 games in a row to lead 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, 3-0. Henman then won 5 games in a row to lead 5-3 in the fourth set, and then Coria won 4 games in a row to complete a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, 7-5 victory.

Speaking of the 2004 French Open, the other semi final match between Gaston Gaudio and David Nalbandian is another match of reference. After Gaudio won the first set, 6-3, Nalbandian took a 5-1 lead in the second set. Gaudio then won 12 of the next 13 games to win the match 6-3, 7-6, 6-0.

I thought this was a big upset after Nalbandian had beaten Safin and Kuerten.

The 2000 Australian Open second round match between Lleyton Hewitt and Alex Corretja. Hewitt won the first 16 games of the match, before completing a 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 victory.

There have been a few triple bagel matches as well, such as Sergi Bruguera beating Thierry Champion at the 1993 French Open, Ivan Lendl beating Barry Moir at the 1987 US Open, and Stefan Edberg beating Stefan Eriksson at 1987 Wimbledon.

What about Agassi against that Korean guy in AO03? I remember he won the first 7 points of the match before Agassi won the next 18 games in a row

Oh, yes. That was Hyung-Taik Lee, who was famously Goran Ivanisevic's opponent at the Brighton Indoors in 2000, when Goran smashed all of his racquets and had to retire from the match.

Man, that Vilas vs McEnroe is shocking. Getting broken 7 or 8 times in a row......

That match was held on day 3 of a Davis Cup tie on clay. Mac played the 1st two days(played a 5 set singles match & a 5 set doubles match)
Heavy balls were used by Argentina that weekend, Mac had lingering shoulder issues for a few weeks after the tie.

I was talking about Rome 2013 where Nadal did it to him again. Just to prove it wasn't a fluke...

I just checked it for you and it was 8 games in a row in Rome. So while still impressive, he didn't actually do it again.

I also checked Hamburg 2007 where Federer beat Nadal 2-6 6-2 6-0 winning 8 or 9 games in a row (I can't confirm exactly yet). And this was on clay too :)

Depending on what you consider a top player, Davydenko at the 2010 AO versus Federer comes to mind. He came in as one of the favourites with his best chance at a slam, recently winning yec and Doha. He led Federer 6-2 3-1 with a chance to go up a double break before losing 13 straight games for 2/6 6-3 6-0 2-0
