Pretty much everyone has laid an egg at one point in a slam final. Which match represents the most disappointing in terms of actual level in final versus expectations?
This one by Med was possibly the worst, because Djokovic was playing lower than his usual level today. Med’s B game would have been plenty but he didn’t even find that.
Medvedev said Novak was in the Zone, that's why he got blown out. NOT,, i don't think so, he just played total suck tennisPretty much everyone has laid an egg at one point in a slam final. Which match represents the most disappointing in terms of actual level in final versus expectations?
Kind of sad that he lost a $2M payday because he didn’t understand racquet swing physics enough to know that having less sweat in his wrist band due to 20-deg drop in temperature was the reason his racquet was coming around late. He probably just thinks he had a bad day for no apparent reason. The problem is all laid out in the after match press conferences. Daniil is almost jovial after losing, doesn't show any kind of upset. Sure, he may be mad inside, but when someone is mad enough it usually overflows into their behaviour. Clearly, none of these NextGen guys get upset enough after losses to actually make productive changes to their game.
you read some “analyses” here that make you shake your headI am seriously questioning how many people on this board actually watched the final.

You didn't watch the match, just the press conferences?
I watched the match. Medvedev became a head case for a set and a half after losing the break advantage in the 2nd.
The key was at end of 1st set. These matches turn on a dime and losing 3 points in a row at 5-6 really did him in
Many of us did.I am seriously questioning how many people on this board actually watched the final.
Bingo. Whichever's the most recent is the worst. This one by Med was possibly the worst, because of Recency Bias.
Yeah, damn Nadal and his annual Wimb upset. Would have given us a better final than Cryic did.Cilic was the worst performance on that list, kinda took the shine off the win for me tbh.
Sure but he was damn competitive in the 1st set and took that into the 2nd. Then he just went away after losing the break advantage. That was the key point IMO.
Zverev was crying in New York. The problem is all laid out in the after match press conferences. Daniil is almost jovial after losing, doesn't show any kind of upset. Yeah LMAO, I remember when he wasn't impressed by Thiem at the 2018 FO at allmy face after watching each of these matches
The trauma has clouded my mind
Many of us did.
Djokovic played great and would have been a handful for anyone, but Medvedev sucked. There's no denying that.
Hate to, but have to, agree. This one by Med was possibly the worst, because Djokovic was playing lower than his usual level today. Med’s B game would have been plenty but he didn’t even find that.
Zverev was strong in first two sets. Thiem was good in sets 3 and 4. Both looked awful in fifth. My vote goes to Thiem and Zverev, 2020 USO. I expected a slam final and got an ATP 500 2nd round
Crazy the recency bias...All of them lost against players playing at great levels.
2013 WIM Djoko is my pick because a top Nole(And he was good until QF, and in SF had though match but against a great opponent like Delpo) have should beat a top Murray, other ones were underdogs, altough hyped.
Other than that I think 2013 WIM final wasn't a great level match, and Nole's faults were more than Andy credits.
I was really really high on 2019 AO Rafa, but losing against Nole at AO is no shame.
As hyped(And, in this case, rightfully so) underdogs who lost badly I think to 2010 WIM Berdych too.
Spot on. At least Tsitsipas showing some dejection. Other than that, their reaction is even more deflating than their performance during the match. The problem is all laid out in the after match press conferences. It's hands down 2020 Djokovic at Roland Garros. The Nadal Australian open beating comes a close second but i don't think ANYONE expected Djokovic to get absolutely crushed last year, we can talk about how his health was all day long and maybe he wasn't 100% but that was a hard to watch match either way. I wanted a classic.
2020 RG final. Everyone was expecting a good match like their 2012-2014 showdowns at RG. Instead, it was obvious early that Djokovic could not outhit Nadal and didn’t have the patience to outlast him. It was a foregone conclusion that it would be a straight set beatdown after 4-5 games and that was disappointing considering that it was a duel between two GOAT contenders.
Definitely. He was good in the first set and fell apart mentally after that. The idea that Djokovic didnt play well and Medvedev would've won with his B game is idiotic to the point it has to be a troll.
Djokovic would've beaten Medvedev's A game the way he played.
It's funny to think that Federer of 2008 RG F is legit comparable to Medvedev from today.
