The crowd was more into this match than I have seen a long time. And the specialty of this rival and the more advanced age of Rodger and Rafa made this an incredibly emotional match and atmosphere. Not to mention the unbelievable comeback in the fifth and the high quality of play.

I think Murray winning his first slam was as emotional as everyone told him he was a pusher and won't win anything.

Naturally, everyone will have their own take on which matches they found the most exhilarating, the most emotional. For me, this match is right up there with Goran and Pete's titles in 2001 and 2002, respectively.

When the next gen finally win a major, that will be a very emotional moment. Undeniable changing of the guard. Just imagine a stunned, exhausted Murray or Djokovic holding the silver plate whilst a Zverev or Thiem gives their winning speech.

that would give you shudders!!

Fully agree, OP.

Both, among the best finals I can remember. Up there with Borg and Mac at Wimbledon in 80 and 81.

I was sad for pat...and now rafito.
Incredibly happy for goran and Roger.
Pat and goran dressed smiliarly because of AELTC rules.
Roger and Rafa dressed alike for the swoosh.

In both cases, the Crowd was unreal. Seemed slightly more fun on that Monday at Wimbledon; slightly more reverent today in Rod Laver Arena.

You know, it is truly special to see this kind of crowd energy on every point of a grand slam final.

Legacy/historical ramifications, contrasting styles, passionate fanbases, The GOAT in the house to present the cup. Incredible.

Sampras was home, but i bet he wishes he were there, next to the Rocket.

Fully agree, OP. Your username...a Goran reference, right?

Seeing as the loser couldn't stop laughing during his speech, I'd definitely go for many other matches over this one. Wimbly '09 and '12 an '13 finals being the primary contenders.

No, not as emotional. Goran winning his 1st and only Wimby is 100X more important than Fed winning 18.

If ARod won 2009 then that could have been more emotional.
I agree goran's title was more emotional, and the crowd was even more boisterous there. If Andy Roderick had won, 09 would also have been insane, but not as ridiculous as goran's winning as a wildcard!

For me the most emotional was Goran Ivanisevic's run 2001! That was just like a fairy tale win, a wild card who lost three finals at SW19 coming back to win the Wimbledon. Nothing can beat it. At least for me
