Sharapova on the women’s tour. Everyone knows that though, she always talked about not having friends on tour.

If we are to drag women tour into this, then we can add Bouchard and Muguruza to the list as well for the same reasons...nobody is hated as much as Sharapova now obviously ever since that scandal, but Bouchard is sure closest second, followed by Muguruza...i am not sure Wozniacki is very liked either...

Well he thinks he's better than most. I just here comments on here and there that Borna can be a bit of an ass. I just read about a positive interaction with him from a tournament. Still I don't see him doing much with the other young players and we have this where Borna's about as stiff as a board

Berdych never seemed problematic, but I'm a woman. Always a gentleman I found, albeit quiet.

As a former tour player, I will say Wozniacki was fine and liked. Sharapova was stand off ish but not hated, although she could be annoying. Muguruza was after my time, but seems very liked.
Jankovic rubbed very very many the wrong way, but I liked her.

Was Spirlea before your time on tour? I strung her racquets while she was in training here in Orlando and she was quite nice to deal with. I always thought the Venus Williams chest bump thing got way too much negative press.

Ostapenko seems to be the most disliked player of the WTA youngsters due to her on-court behavior (used to be a terrible sore loser). Also, something else happened between her and Kasatkina at a very early point in their careers which made her be super hated by the 'wa group' (Kasatkina, Bencic, Mladenovic, Gavrilova, Konjuh).
I don't know if he's hated, but I do think Tsitsipas seems a bit apart from the rest of the ATP NextGen. I don't remember to have ever seen him hanging out with anyone on tour, which is very weird considering most of them get along with each other or at least have a small clique.

I'm a big fan of both Stef and Penko, before anyone thinks I have something against them.

Nope, she was during my first few years. I even played her and she was just fine. Agree on the chest bump. People are too sensitive.

Inside the top 100 briefly, but never top 15 or anything deserving of Slam seeding.
I never had the consistency needed to be a top player. Being a short power player is not often a recipe for success. That said, even post 40 I can move better than many top players on tour.

Obviously never competed against her, but hit with her for 90 minutes a year ago and she was a delight. May have helped she hit me off the court. She has incredible shot making skills.

I'm guessing your pro career included the transition from normal synthetic or gut strings to polyester or poly/gut hybrids. Was that a big adjustment for you? I know most of the pro racquets I did in the mid-90's (Spirlea included) were synthetic gut with a few fairly successful men/women playing full gut. By the time I strung at pro tournaments in the mid-'00's almost every player had switched to poly.

I didn't know they used to be friends though, that's very interesting. Either way, it was just a sore loser kind of comment, something done in the heat of the moment. At least from my point of view, it's not worthy of ruining a friendship. And it still doesn't explain why Stef doesn't have more friends - other friends- now.
Maybe it's just me projecting my own wishes into the situation. I like Stef very much so I want him to have friends

And about Ostapenko-I also think she's a delight, both as a person and as a player. She comes across as a very honest girl, very transparent, and even if that did make her be a sore loser, nowadays it seems she has finally gained some control over it. She's also very young, most of her mistakes happened when she was a teenager. If other players want to judge her because of how she used to be in the past that's up to them, not her.

It did and made a dramatic difference for me. I went to Polyester and never looked back. It made a huge difference in my game with balls suddenly going in far more often.
Interestingly enough I tried Kevlar in the very late 90s and liked it. I got wrist issues, however. My issue was tension, far too high. I've used it since with no concerns.
