Most Important Fitness Training for Tennis

I am going to start working with a fitness coach soon and was just wondering what we should work on. I'm a developing junior probably 5.0, 5'10 145. I've had some injuries, but this training is primarily to build strength and flexibility, along with preventing injuries. We will be working once a week and then I will be doing my workouts he gives me on the days I don't see him. He's not a tennis player, but a great fitness coach. I was wondering what you guys thought was the most important thing for a junior to work on. Thanks.

I'm not a great tennis player, but I used to be very physically fit at 5'5" 165 most of my Military life. By your BMI, I'll bet your endurance is probavly close to maxed; if not, that is key to consistency & wearing out an opponent. Otherwise you need some muscle, roughly I would focus 60% on weight training, 20% on endurance, 10% agility, & 10% core focus. Not sure what ideal junior size should be, but I would think an average 5"10" frame should carry 170lbs in tennis, to be a beast.

Yes. I think my endurance is very good in long matches and my opponents always get more tired before I do. I agree. I think my goal is around 170 if I stay the same height, but if I grow, it could possibly go up. Not sure if I'm done growing yet.

Most male humans hit biggest growth spurt from 15-16, but usually don't really stop growing til 20-21. If you're only 15, you probably got some work to do; how tall is your father?

My dad is only 5'10. I've recently surpassed him in the height category. We don't have any real height in our family except some great-grandparents who were 6'4-6'6.

Well you could certainly see 6'0". In any event, if you've never focused on purely fitness/training, outside of tennis, I would say you should see marked results after 3 months of training. You'll notice pushing opponents farther off the court & your winners will increase d/t your increased power. Best wishes.

I don't know how to drive a car. I used to bicycle to work 3 miles round trip, every day, sun, rain, snow. I was in tip top shape. My best weight was 124 lbs. Now that I live on a bus line, I'm way out of shape. I can fluctuate from 135 - 155 lbs. Cut down on weight, get as trim as possible. The lighter you weigh, the faster you move.

most important is obviously technique.

then Comes agility and sprinting. pro Players do less sprinting and sometimes Longer Sprints (you often read about pros doing 400m Intervalls or Long hill Sprints) and something but this is because they already get so much volume of explosive sprinting and agility in their Tennis that they want to give their Joints some rest (sprinting and direction changes is very hard on Joints) and instead work on their anaerobic recuperation ability and Fitness more.
