Seles and Serena among the best....much further down the list.

Graf, #1, #2, #4, #5, and #8.....before you even see a mention of Seles! Hmmm.......so much for that so called "domination"!

Selestials.....can you explain that one for me!

Navratilova-82-86

1982-90-3-.968
1983-86-1-I believe that's the best of the Open Era at .989
1984-78-2-.975
1985-80-5-.941
1986-90-3-.968

Total 424-14 for a record of .968 for five years. Navratilova won 70 of 84 tournaments in that span.

Joe,

I think you have to update your first post.

Still doesn't beat Navratilova's '84...

Just sayin.

why else do you think he chose past 25 years ? :)

Thats pretty interesting to see the numbers all in a row. Although I think to just use match wins and losses is a little limiting, I would take Graf's 1988 over her 1989 any day, even though she won more matches in 89. I would similarly say Serena's 2002 was better than 2003 even if the 2003 win % was better (which was arguably influenced by injury, you could argue it was both helped or hurt by it). If we go by Record alone during the year, Davenports 2007 was also great, she won 3 titles and only lost 1 match I think. Its an interesting list, I might just order the years differently.

The list only included players who played at least 40 matches per year.

Serena with 41 matches in total should find no place in the list. It's not fair to players who've played almost double the # of matches. You could make a case for her for 2002 with a 56-5 record.

The cut was made at 40 matches per year.
Don't forget that the more matches a player played the more losses she could suffer while still having a great winning percentage.

Ever heard of Lenglen or Wills-Moody?

Really? You're going to cite Lenglen's and Wills' records compared to the modern era?

There is no doubt that they were both great players but they had almost no competition in their respective primes which is why their records are practically perfect - when Lenglen was winning Wimbledon almost without losing a game (nevermind a set) you know the competition was pretty weak. Not nearly as many players, no money etc all contributed to the lack of competition, but they could only play who was there so it's not their fault that they were way above anyone else that was playing during their careers.

And by your criteria it was only during the Open era.

My criteria are the last 25 years.
Which is a quarter of 100 years. A very common time frame (eg. "25 years of Rolling Stones", "Vietnam - 25 years later", "25th wedding anniversary").

Be assured that I will repeat that list next year.
The top ten seasons of 1987-2011 will be these:

LOL, you wish ...

Graf IS an american. She has an American citizen and plus married to Agassi(you know he's american, right?). However, when it comes to tennis, people see her as Gernam. The same with Sharapova(except she's alot prettier than Graf), she's an American but fans see her as Russian. When compete in an international event, she represent Russia. Same for other foreign athletes like Dirk Nowitzki or Pao Gasol.

Any question?

Why should she be American?
Because she lives there?
Because she is married to an American?
Do you think if Graf and Agassi lived in Germany Agassi would be German?

Oh my ....

...
Yes, he qualify for a citizenship.
...

He could apply, yes.
And Steffi could apply for US citizenship. And she would get it.
But she didn't and she won't.
Why on earth should she?

Say, is every American so dumb and self-centered like you?

Anyone who’s blind, narrow minded in here is you. And for being a Graftard, that’s the only explanation.

You are the one who is on war with facts.
Steffi is no US citizen.
That's a fact.
And saying so is not "narrow minded".
