Given that last year's model was playing on grass nearly 3 weeks before the start of Queen's, whereas this year's model had been on grass for a couple of days before the start, is that any real surprise mate?

No, not a big surprise, just stating that I think Murray will have big trouble reaching a semifinal this year. I thought that was what the thread was about :)

Didn't he just make a slam semi a couple of weeks ago - on his worst surface, when seeded 7?

Why is he going to have big trouble doing it on his best surface when seeded 3?

Murray has already reached 2 semi-finals this year: Acapulco and Roland Garros!
Did you mean you don't think he can reach another semi-final this year?

No, what I said and meant is that the guy who got crushed by Stepanek at Queens didn't look like the guy that won Wimbledon last summer at all. He looked very uncomfortable and it looked as if he didn't know what to do when his service game failed him. So I think he will have a hard time getting there this year. He has a lot of work to do. Hopefully he can find his way back into the groove :)

Crushed?

Yes. 7-6, 6-2. Crushed.

But this is not a crusade against Andy Murray at all. I think it should be OK to say that he doesn't look like himself at his best at the moment, without having to stand straight and get pumped for answers...

Man, what is 6-1, 6-2 to you?

Are you guys just being deliberately awkward. junior74 obviously means he thinks that Murray won't be reaching a Wimbledon semi-final this year.

And sure, Murray could well have big trouble in reaching it because Slams are difficult business, though he does have tremendous pedigree on grass. However, he's not coming into this tournament with the best results behind him, which probably impacts his self belief.

He'll need to fully believe in himself to score wins over the other top ranked players in a potential semis and should he have to play the likes of Dimitrov or Berdych in the quarters, then big trouble likely awaits.

I just can't imagine a scenario where that scoreline would warrant the use of the word "crushed". Maybe a golden 2nd set?

OK, english is my second language. Maybe not crushed... Sorry about the semantics!
My point was that Stepanek really took control of the match and Murray didn't stand a chance in the 2. set, which I thought was not exactly a sign of strength from the '13 champion.

Please, let's get back on track (and sorry if I was contributing to getting off it, due to limited vocalbulary )

Don't worry about the language. If Murray had gotten soundly beaten by some low ranked journeyman in early rounds of successive tournaments, I'd understand the anxiety about his chances, but I don't see it. He is a very solid favourite for the Semifinals for me. Can't see the Stepanek loss as one that will demoralize Murray particularly. Remember the grass at Wimbledon plays slightly slower and there's more space to move around. Murray would almost certainly win in straight sets against Stepanek, should they meet there.

Anyways Raonic I believe will pull off a big upset in this years draw.... you heard it here first!

Sadly, Raonic is a serve only player. He can be hyped to high heavens, but he's really quite a limited player. His footwork is horrendous and his BH is garbage. His serve is brutal and his FH can be devastating, although erratic. I don't see him winning slams.

Agree, but I just have a hunch that his serve is gonna do some SERIOUS damage this tournament...

That's true. But he need to be fully recovered to use his prowess of heavy serves and court coverage.
Can't wait for the tournement to start :)

Hehe, thanks :)

Who are the most likely semifinalists now, after the first rounds? I thought Gulbis had to dig deep, but that's the way he likes it, isn't it?

your welcome ;) and I don't think gulbis can make the semi finals on grass, since their are so many other players to contend with on grass than on clay. My semis are djokovic-Murray Federer-Nadal-Raonic

Is that Federer against Nadal and Raonic or Federer and Nadal against Raonic? ;)
