Most overrated player in recent times

Man, you don't get it, do you?
No, you don't get it.

I'm 'blaming' Murray's back for one loss just after he's come back from months out of the game. That's not comparable to an extended run of time in which Federer achieved plenty where he was supposedly walking wounded.
Federer's back troubles were in the middle part of the season. Including claycourt season and grasscourt season. And he didn't achieve plenty in 2013. That is absurd. Did you even watch Tennis in 2013?

Sure it is a big deal, it's also a big deal to get 2 days off before you have to play your next match. I really don't understand what you're trying to prove by making this comparison. Between the two of the victories Federer's win over Stan is obviously more 'impressive' than Djokovic losing to Nishikori. So what?
That's it. I'm saying the world #1 player has had a very bad loss at a Slam which could have happened to Federer. But it didn't.

No, not just the Australian Open. Also the victory over Stan at Wimbledon. I single those two out because ultimately when it's all said and done tennis is about the 4 majors. Achieving success at Masters 1000 level and below is fine, but if your results at the biggest tournaments tend to be all smoke and mirrors and you're ranked that high, and still thought of as a major threat at slams then to me that certainly qualifies a guy to be as overrated a player as there is in the game at the present time, yes.
Federer had a break point at 3-3 in the 5th set of the Wimbledon final. If you think that isn't a vast improvement over last year, I don't even know what to say to you.

I'm not IGNORING them, but Federer is currently ranked number 2 in the world, so having good runs at those tournaments means a whole lot less than having good runs at slams does. His good runs at slams have not been as impressive to me watching them as they look on paper, so hey presto... overrated! It's that simple really.
He's actually ranked #3. Good job blowing your own argument to bits and pieces. Perhaps the overrating is in your head?

I don't think Federer is a terrible player, I don't think he's the devil, I'm not making comparisons to Djokovic, Nadal or anybody else. I'm just saying that based on what I've seen, and based on his standing, he's the answer to this thread.
And you haven't explained why. He's ranked #3. He made 3 Slam semifinals this year. Nobody has more. He was extremely close to winning the biggest title in Tennis: Wimbledon. And he also had very consistent results at the Masters 1000 level. Care to explain how he's overrated? Or do you have no explanation but "injuries!" which could just as easily be used to discredit Nadal's 2013?

Man, this is getting boring. By saying he achieved plenty I mean he played and won plenty of matches for a guy who was supposedly in great pain. When you're arguing about semantics you know it's time to call it a day.

Djokovic's loss was bad, yes. He had a terrible American summer in general. You think he should be declared the most overrated player? The guy just won Wimbledon against a genuinely great draw a couple of weeks after making the final at Roland Garros. He's doing just fine.

So Federer is ranked 3. My mistake. He's 2 in the race. Does it really matter? The point stands either way.

Federer had a break point in the 5th set because Djokovic was having a moment. That entire match was on Novak's racquet. Yes, his run at Wimbledon was obviously much better than last year's, but that draw was a joke. That's my point. The results look good on paper but not in reality. Hence, overrated. I already said that before in a paragraph you quoted, but you apparently really just don't seem to get it. Maybe saying it twice will qualify as explaining why?

When Federer having his worst season since 2002 qualifies as "winning plenty", you know you're not having a great thinking day.

Say, what? Tough draw? How many top 10 players did he face en route to the final? Federer faced and beat 2 of them.

So Federer is ranked 3. My mistake. He's 2 in the race. Does it really matter? The point stands either way.
Yes, it does matter. No, it doesn't.

What if I said Djokovic only won the 3rd set because Federer had a moment? And saying a match was on someone's racquet means absolutely nothing. If Federer's draw was a joke, when he actually beat 2 top 10 players en route to the final, what was Djokovic's? He didn't face a single top 10 player until the final.

The results look good on paper but not in reality. Hence, overrated. I already said that before in a paragraph you quoted, but you apparently really just don't seem to get it. Maybe saying it twice will qualify as explaining why?
Why don't they look good in reality? He beat Djokovic twice this year. He is the only player among the top 4 that could beat Wawrinka this year. He has made more tournament finals than anyone else this year (I might be wrong about this). You don't get it. And repeating the same nonsense doesn't make it true until you give a proper explanation for why it is so.

That is a brilliant response. And so true. Have we all gone mad? Worshiping people who hit a round object.

Einstein, Chopin, those guys were brilliant.

And we all could be pros here. It's just a matter of training. But, to be Einstein or Chopin? Very rare.

It's say, we here are wasting our potential worshiping those false gods, instead of doing something out there.

Yes, we overrate those guys and with this underrate ourselves.

You have given me real motivation now, to quit watching tennis and go out there and do something :).

Welcome to Club Chopin :-D

Djokovic's domination in recent times has seen to it no one to be overrated that much. Although Thiem and Goffin are overrated, Tomic is horribly overrated, and if anything, Nishikori is underrated. Murray's hype seems just to be fair, 2 slam finals and a win is still damn good, although Murray in 09/10 was overhyped and overrated. Dimitrov was overrated. I overrated Gulbis back in the day, what a chump he turned out to be (considering his weapons). Sad this is I still believe Gulbis will win a slam. Gasquet was overrated.

Make that 3 Slam finals for Murray. Out of interest, why do you think Nishikori is underrated?

2 slam finals and a win...........

I think Nishikori is underrated because he is underrated, I can't explain it any better than that. I've seen three posts in the last week describing Nishikori as a journeyman, and is never ever considered a threat in slams. This will all change when he wins the US Open, and the hype will go up. Trust me, he's going to win the US Open if he plays it.

Oops sorry, I take your point.

Describing him as a journeyman is a bit over the top. But you have to admit that he has failed to deliver on any of the big stages and he hasn't exactly made that many big stages yet. His fitness issues are a constant worry. Still, I'm impressed by your confidence in him and will be among the first to congratulate you if and when he finally delivers. :)

Yeah, he seems to always be carrying some sort of injury. As for the big stages, he still has time on his side. My predictions aren't that good, but I just have visions of him winning it this year.
