Most Overrated Player Outside of the Top 4?

Has to be Del Potro ATM. Yes he is the only one of those guys with a slam, but he hasnt proven himself any better than any of the other top tenners outside the top 4 for awhile now.

I dunno if it is right to say Delpo is overrated anymore, because does anyone expect anything of him now?

In 2009 he went on a steady curve up. Got destroyed in Australia by Federer, took him to 5 in RG and then beat him at the USO. He made a masters final, the final of the WTF, beat Nadal 3 times including a slam, beat Federer twice including a slam, beat Murray at a masters got to number 4 just before getting injured in 2010.

The way he was then, he was a very very good player. But it's obvious since he's been back he is nowhere near that level and doesn't look like winning anything above a 500.

Apart from a couple of good matches against nadal (wimbledon 2011 and Davis Cup) one against federer (RG 2012) and a couple od matches against Djokovic (Davis Cup, RG 2011) he's not looked to be getting anywhere near his old self - and he only won one of the matches i mentioned.

So I don't expect much of him anymore, which is sad.

Apologies Clarky - you're right enough; he beat Nole in the match prior to that in the Dubai semis.

Djokovic is 2-1 v Murray this year. Beat him in that 5 set thriller in the AO semi, then exchanged straight sets wins with him in Dubai and Miami.

I think when Delpo came back he was overrated because it was expected that he would get back to his 09 form. It's clear now that he won't be getting back to that form any time soon so I just consider him an average top tenner now, no more favored to win tourneys than Berdych or Tsonga

It's fairly obvious which kind of people consider del Potro "overrated"....and those two groups know exactly who they are.

Can't agree with Delpo, injuries have stopped him, he had Federer at the FO while injured, so an injured Delpo almost beat Federer, what does that say.

Well yeah I get your point, but I think Murray is very much in his prime right now and still he hasn't won a slam. Hasn't come even close to it.

Yes Murray is capable of beating the best in best of 3 matches, but doesn't have that next level in him to beat them in majors.

Murray's game is based on consistency, while on other hand Delpo when in the zone is very hard to beat even by the best(much alike Safin).

And of course you have to bear in mind that Delpo is younger and injuries were setback for him in the last 1-2 years.

Watching Murray losing finals again and again I can't see him having what it takes to defeat Federer/Nadal or Djokovic at a final of a Major...

And you are perfectly entitled to hold that opinion mate (despite the first bolded statement's factual inaccuracy), but here's the thing. Making slam finals and losing them is a positive indicator of a player's chances of winning a slam. Maybe Murray won't win one, but to suggest that regularly making finals and semis is indicative of not being able to win one is just daft IMO.

PS I hope your boy can find a way to regain the heights of late 2009, as I said - I like the guy. Watched him play the 09 WTF final live and was rooting for him..

Raonic, Dolgo, Tomic, Dimitrov. Basically, the young guys. But it's hard to judge at this stage because players seem to be doing their best mid-20s, so they could amaze us in a few years. Somebody will need to, because there's only so long we can count on the Top 3.

The one I think is underrated as a player in that group is Harrison, because tennis fans seem to hate Americans in general and bratty Americans in particular. He's like the new Roddick before he's had a chance to win a slam. I think he will in about four or five years. Again, somebody will need to once the Top 3 are gone, and he's acquited himself pretty well with tough draws at the majors.

"1. JMDP - I like Delpo, but he's really not lived up to the hype that everyone had set for him off of his 09 USO run. I know the injuries have had something to do with it"

i have some inside info that JMDP was not injured, just an excuse. i dont want to give my source as it is someone close to JMDP and that person is employed by him.

i can not give any more info than that, i don't want this person to lose their job.

john isner

from what ive seen of his game, doesnt belong in the top 10

yet earlier in the year some demanded he be the "best of the rest" by the end of the season. far from

Two guys have been #1 this year, and he has beaten them both, certainly deserving of the top 10.
