None of the players listed are overrated. They receive the correct amount of praise/criticism due them based on their games. Strong players but not yet considered great.

Totally agree. This whole 'overrated' concept is just dim, if you listen to people who don't measure their comments or know the game then anyone can be over or underrated. It's not worth passing comment on, just ignore it.

Generally though people get it right, Gulbis is talked about because of his potential and his technique, he just hasn't put it together at a decent tourney yet, he may never.

People going on about Murray winning slams in the future is getting a bit annoying but based on his results so far it's not an irrational prediction.

How's she overrated? Everyone here hates her apart from 2-3 people. She was obviously favorite for RG, which is 100% fair, but got sick and then later injured in Wimbledon, otherwise she'd reach final there.

Compared that to Del Potro who is being paraded like some kind of Fedal destroyer even though he had one good run and has done absolutely nothing prior to that. The guy can only play on decoturf and already some clowns are suggesting he can be a threat on clay and grass. When he comes back and starts winning everything in sight, then I will change my mind - until then, he is a lucky one slam wonder, even Djoker has done 100 times more at this point.

Excuse me, were you having an aneurism when he took Federer to 5 at RG? Or were you just busy having another fit of asinine posting? I mean, contending that someone is a crap clay courter despite them having reached the semis of RG is a weee bit stupid, innit now?

del potro is still to new to be overrrated plus he won US open. To be considered overrarted, you have to be ranked high with no great accomplishment. In that case my vote goes to Murray. Every big match he buckles under pressure. He lost to sam querry. Comer on how can you loose to sam querry in the final if yu are #3 in the world after beating a guy like lopez He is inconsistent mental case. People expect lot from him but he cant deliver.

You are really stupid if you think that, she didn't play tennis for about 18 months, come backs are hard, any pro player would struggle like Serena in 2006 for example. You usually need 6 months at least to find your old game. Clijsters had a fluke run, she isn't making it far this year.

Yeah Clijsters is overrated, that's why she's slapped down your doll Henin every time they've played this year.

Henin isn't really injured, she just didn't want to get her arse beaten again by Clijsters @ the USO.

Umm no?? Unless you want to say Fernando Gonzalez is a good clay courter? Or Safin good grass courter? SF doesn't mean anything at all. Masters titles, slam finals and slams do, not a single SF run, sorry.

Yeah Clijsters is overrated, that's why she's slapped down your doll Henin every time they've played this year.

You forgot the part where Clijsters was getting obliterated in Wimbledon, until Henin fell and got injured and Clijsters cruised to a victory because Justine couldn't serve or hit forehand. Oh yeah before you argue that Henin wasn't injured or that Clijsters would win anyway, I'd like to point your attention to the fact that Clijsters got spanked by Zvonareva. She couldn't back up her win against a first half decent player she met.

1. Justine Henin- so much for her coming back and taking over the WTA tour.

Agreed; her TT servants predicted she was going to prove how superior her skills were over certain players, and "take back" the slams, as though she was a lock to win any she entered. Well, nearly a year later, and not only did she fail to win at the slam where she had the best results, but (in no surprise) completely crumbled at Wimbledon.

2. David Nalbandian- very talented but overpraised for a guy with no slam finals since 2002.

Yeah--exactly why is this born-to-never-win-a-slam guy celebrated like he ranks with the sport's greatest?

3. Richard Gasquet- he is not as talented as people think he is.

Gasquet is ok..but in the long run, he will not matter much to history.

4. Roger Federer- just because he is not the consensus GOAT that is made out to be IMHO.

Agreed.

5. Maria Sharapova- why is she still a bookies favorite to win every slam when she is getting crushed by most of the top 20.

True. Empty hype with no valid reason to pump this long past her prime player (if she ever had a prime).

You forgot the part where Clijsters was getting obliterated in Wimbledon, until Henin fell and got injured and Clijsters cruised to a victory because Justine couldn't serve or hit forehand.

...just as full of BS as the alleged stomach ache excuse which Henin used to bail on the AO final beating at the hands of Mauresmo.

Oh yeah before you argue that Henin wasn't injured or that Clijsters would win anyway, I'd like to point your attention to the fact that Clijsters got spanked by Zvonareva. She couldn't back up her win against a first half decent player she met.

Oh yeah--how Clijsters fared against the next opponent has no bearing on the match where the specific comparison is between Clijsters & Henin....not anyone else.

With all due respect OP, but the poll is beyond epic fail.

You list 4 top 10 players and Gulbis :? who is 21, and is still full of potential (that granted, may never realize at the rate he is going now)

That alone leads me to believe that you simply got tired of Gulbis hype (believe me I too, I am as realistic as they come) and decided to sneak him in this one. :)

But enough with Gulbis, no other player you listed is overrated in any way, and overrated by whom? ....you?

Delpotro is young an injured...does that equal overrated?

Gulbis is young and not supposed to be in the same sentence with these guys, just yet.

Murray is a great player (even if I hate watching him) that is struggling with his game, mental aspect, but, he also has Nadal, Federer and Djokovic to struggle with. All that combines means no grand slams till Fed is gone (he is almost there).

Djokovic has a similar problem as does Murray.

Again, who is over rating them? .....media? ...or TT members? :p Both?
They do the same for Donald Young.

I think you don't have any overrated players on your list, they are all great, some better then others...

Totally agree with the OP.

Let me add some more,

1) Federer - Ok, good job during 2004-2007. Since then, what has he achieved? Getting beaten by Chokovic in a Slam? Getting clowned by Nadal at the next one? This guy wants to be a GOAT contender and gets beaten 3, 0, 1 in a Slam final? LOL! I can't imagine telling my son about this great Federer who got pushed around like a school boy in a Slam final during his prime.

And then he gets a clown draw in the next Slam, facing Mr. Grass-is-for-Cows-Marat-Safin in the semi-final of Wimbledon! And so he gets to the final, and guess what, he gets schooled for 2 and a half sets until rain interrupts! So Nadal gets tentative and probably a little cold, but still good job fighting back I admit. It was a good final but he can't even break Nadal's serve the entire match!! What kinda GOAT is this? Nadal serves 86 mph on first serves and Mr. Goat can't break him? What an overrated joke LOL!!

So he wins the US Open because Nadal's overplayed and Murray gets no rest day while Mr. GOAT has his feet up for 2 days waiting for Murray to slug it out. Easy Slam there.

And then he cries losing to his closest rival...how pathetic..and again of course the draw is full of clowns. Del Po tanks after the first set (evidence, 0 and 0) and Roddick his puppet is happy just to reach the semis.

Then Nadal gets injured so the next Slams don't count. Though it was a shame Roddick took him to 5 sets, since Roddick was losing sets to every player in the opening rounds and only clowns allowed him to get confident!! And of course Roddick has a massive chokejob in the 2nd set breaker! Even Pete Sampras was smiling like damn, these guys are clowns. Ivanisevic and me could have beaten these kids with our fist pumps alone.

And then Federer loses to Del Po and gets lucky playing Murray who obviously can't close out sets. And then he gets shown his true place by Berdych, Baghdatis, Soderling etc.

2) Nadal -- Don't get me started on this guy. This guy likes to whine all year about how tough the schedule is but likes to play every doubles tournament...what a joke! And then he gets squashed by Soderling on clay! LOL! Even if he was injured, you don't lose to Soderling on clay if you're the clay court GOAT!! It's like Muster losing to Marc Rosset in '95! LOL!

And then he gets pummelled by Del Po at the Open!! What a joke! Improvise against a big hitter! What kind of player gets beaten 2, 2 and 2!! I hadn't even gotten half way through my pop corn that night! I had to make do with porn instead...what a pathetic player!

Ok so I think its good to win so many French Opens, but what about the US Open? This guy has been hyped as a great but look who he loses to when the crowds are noisy and the bugs are crawling in his pants: Blake, LOL the Blake who loses to Ryan Sweeting!! Wow what a joke this player has been. He's made 2 quarter finals in Slams his whole career! And this is the player Nadal loses to coming in ranked No. 2? What a joke!

Youzhny: Ok so Youzhny played good that tournament, I saw him crushing a few backhands but it's Youzhny! Mr. I'm not stable enough to keep from smashing my head with my racquet during a match Youzhy!

Del Potro: Covered by the OP!

Murray: Ok so this was a good game, and Nadal was tired coming in. I understand that...

Ferrer: LOL!!! Enough said!! Mr. I play on clay all year because I get spanked on hard courts Ferrer! The Ferrer who basically has a forehand that's not even big, a steady backhand which is not big either and scrambling capabilities which are not amongst the best. This guy is a joke on hard courts and will always will be. He flames out every other tournament. This is not a guy you lose to at the US Open!! It's like Andre Agassi losing to Clement!? Imagine that! Or Pete Sampras losing to Kucera in a Slam!! Pete kicked his ass at Wimbledon with a broken foot! That's what champions do!!!!

Wait didn't you just start a thread titled "Maria to win a slam again"

Maria's form seems to be gradually picking up. She is only 23 of course. Many have written her off but do you see her getting back to the level that could make her a slam winner again?

When you look at the next few years there arent many players to win slams. Serena of course. Clijsters if she can stop losing to lower ranked opponents in slams as she has done well vs the big guns since her comeback. Henin if she gets her game on track again. Maybe 2 or more out of Stosur, Jankovic, Petrova or Dementieva, has a slam in them, although I wouldnt be on it. Who else does that leave. Wozniacki maybe if she improves some can win a slam or two in the next few years, but that is a big if.

It is increasingly clear Venus is done. Kuznetsova, Safina, and Ivanovic are definitely done as far as winning slams as well. Azarenka is not slam winning material.

Djokovic overrated? its been a top 3 player for the last 4 years, 5 masters titles, 1 grand slam, and 1 ATP Finals title.

Potro overrated? he won 4 consecutive ATP titles, 1 grand slam and in the same year a finalist at the ATP Finals.

i dont know what ur talking about.

US Open is where the real talent players lie. If Nadal doesn't win the US Open, he is indeed the most overrated player of all-time.

Wait didn't you just start a thread titled "Maria to win a slam again"

I think she is showing signs of gradually getting back on track and she is only 23 years old. So there is still real hope for her in the future IMO. That was my point in that thread. That doesnt mean she should be the 3rd or 4th favorite with the bookies to win slams right now, which she is if you look at the betting odds.

Some people are absolutely deluded. Murray is not overrated, no where near it. He's just turning into a bit of an underachiever at the minute.

The most overrated players are always the Americans, with Andy Roddick being the extremity. Ordinary in almost every sense of the word.

I don't see it that way. Roddick's won a slam and has been #1 in the world.

Thankfully, the Murray hype has died down a bit, and I think most of his fans have come to the realization that racking up slams and Masters isn't quite as easy as Nadal and Federer make it look, but if you go back about a year, the British media and Murray's fans were simply ridiculous - cartoonish comments. "Murray is the real #1, not Federer". "Murray will win more slams and Masters than Nadal". For a guy who had yet to win his first slam while Federer had just completed the career slam and passed Sampras, those comments were comical. For a guy who is only 12 months younger than Nadal and has yet to win his first slam, such comments are comical.

Oh, please. This is the guy too many tennis writers/commentators, et al, all shouted would be the next big thing, and jumped on the bandwagon (apparenly, one with no wheels). This moves us to.....

The most overrated players are always the Americans, with Andy Roddick being the extremity. Ordinary in almost every sense of the word.

At last Roddick actually won a slam, which elevates him far above Murray in terms of tennis accomplishments...'cause you know...the slams are the sport's ultimate prize....

Roddick is way overrrated in the sense of being a superstar, and a slam contender.

From what commentators say, the rest are where they should be.

LOL, great reply :)

There only underrated players, no one is overrated.

No no you don't get it, this is a clown era!! Read my earlier post, it proves that we see clowns on TV everyday!! Sampras beat Federer 5 years after retirement when Fed was at his peak, don't you see!!? Agassi even aced Federer at Indian Wells this year! LOL who gets aced by a 40-year old on his last legs with a bad back to boot? LOL clowns that's who!
