Attention stringers: I am re-starting my home stringing business after taking some years off. The number of new and affordable synthetic gut offerings is overwhelming! What are your favorite and/or best-selling synthetic gut strings among your customers?
Do any of you carry the more "premium" syn guts in the $8-12 range, like Gosen AK or Volkl-V-Wrap? Perhaps you could also mention which syn guts are preferred in hybrids or full sets.

Personally I still like Gosen Sheep Micro 16 for myself. I was just wondering if the standard Prince, Gamma, Technifibre and Wilson Synthetic Guts are still the most popular and best to keep in stock. Does NAME Brand Loyalty mean very much to your synthetic gut customers?

Please comment on which specific models and gauge of strings you favor. Thanks!

Honestly people that use syn gut are not too picky in my experience. They just say use whatever you have to me. My personal favorite is Prince Original though so I stock that one.

I believe prince synthetic gut with duraflexx has been the most popular strings out of all strings. But all synthetic guts play rather similar. Don't see much use in paying over $5 for a set of premium synthetic gut when golden OG sheep micro is $40 for a reel.

I have tried a few as a cross in a hybrid. Volkl was nice a slippy, soft, didnt last long :/ . Prince was good in all areas, a safe bet and good reputation, so people will be happy to have it. However my favourite and what I am using today is signum pro ultra power sf. unbelievably good as a cross. Fairly hard to start with, breaks in after ~2 hours and then its just awesome. Can't comment on full bed though for any.

A string that breaks after only two hours is not one I would care to use. I don't care if I string my own racquets or not. A pain to have to keep restring over and over again after every time I use it, uggg.

Never mind. I misread that last message. You said it BREAKS IN after two hours. A lot better than breaking after two hours of play. I guess I need to s l o w down my reading a bit.

:D:D:D yes, its still good for those first 1-2 hours, but after it settles (probably a better word), softens and really hits its peak... which it is still going (6 weeks later, playing ~6 hours a week) and its playing so good that I dont even feel like it need to cut it out.

POSG 16 or PSGD 16 or Gamma SG w/o Wearguard 16. Anything else, I can order (and charge for) or get from the client with the usual caveats.

Funny, I stocked these same strings back when I started my first stringing business in 1997!! I kept the Gamma in sets though, because I only have 4 or 5 customers that preferred it.
Just throwing this out there, but I'm guessing no one uses Nylon anymore, like Forten Nylon 15L? I used it myself, pre-stretched it and strung my 6 it at 72lb on my PS Classic 6.1. I had to have six racquets for out of town tournaments, because it only lasted 30-45 minutes, but it was like 70 cents a racquet to string or something. My (junior) college team used it, because the coach was getting it for $10/reel! I was just curios about nylon, because I just traded for a racquet locally, and the guy just had the stick strung with Prince Tournament Nylon! Icouldn't believe people still used this stuff, since a ton of good strings are so affordable these days.

Just get the Ashaway Liberty and call it a day. When you run a business, you need the cheapest alternative. This stuff plays way better then the price would suggest, especisly fresh from stringer, and is excellent as hybrid in crosses.

I believe PSG w/ Duraflex is the number one selling string in the world. Suggest that is an excellent one to stock. Also, suggest Gosen OGSM for poly hybrid crosses. Good start point for your business inventory.

People are asking me all the time what I stock. I tell them and then they say I don't have their string. If they still want me to do it, I can get strings from TW (and grommets) from TW next day or 2nd day. Or I can tell them to inventory their own strings and I will just install. The last 2 options seem to work out real well.

I suppose strings are so affordable and easy to order online, that doesn't seem like much to ask. I have taught music lessons for many years, and my experience has been when I tell the parents they can order music books cheaply on Amazon, 9 x' s out of 10, they ask me to order for them or just buy from our school (at a hefty markup). We shall see how tennis parents compare.

Thanks John Hempel for the recommendation. Personally, I enjoy Gosen Sheep, but the Prince does have a bit more pocketing, power, and comfort.

Not ashamed to admit that I'm loving Forten Nylon 16 in some of my own racquets. The yellow stuff actually looks really sharp in my black & yellow Volkls, but it also plays pretty darned well, too. If somebody needs a long lasting hybrid, I've had success with using the 15L version of this string as a cross, but I suppose that Gosen OGSM 16 is my typical cross for most of the hybrids I do for my "clients".

I've also been doing great lately with Kirschbaum's regular syn. gut. It's a middle of the road syn. gut in terms of softness and it's super affordable in reels. Gosen OGSM is certainly affordable, but it's just a little more firm than I prefer in full beds. I am looking forward to experimenting with that string in 18 ga. - I've always liked thinner syn. gut and since the Gosen stuff is rather durable, there must be some way to have fun with it. Details at 11:00...

Fuzz Nation keep us informed. Not liking any polys as full beds or crosses. I'm trying to find a good syn gut that plays well and has good control. I'm looking at some multi's as well.

Kirschbaum premium syn gut is perfect for me (looks like Gosen Sheep Micro, plays like a multi). The regular version is just a nylon string (comparable to Forten nylon or Prince Tournament Nylon). Most people I string for either use Kirschbaum premium or Prince Synthetic W/Duraflex. I use the Prince Original when I want more feel for my 18x20 classic feeling frames :) Kirschbaum has been an awesome company to deal with as well. The guy I talk to is cool as heck, and I just call him up and a few days later strings arrive in a box, usually with some free overgrips or t shirt (I think I bought all their shirts out though!)

Since Kirschbaum premium syn gut does not some in sets I will have to see if any of the stringers in my area has a reel of it. I don't string my own so I will try a set here in the nest few months. I have to find something to use besides that poly stuff.
