Hi everyone, I'm wondering about what racquets and strings do most D1 college players use ? It's true that the Wilson Blade 18x20 with Luxilon Alu Power is the most used ?

Thank's :)

More likely 16x19 blade I think. Aero's, strikes, Yonex. Strings is solinco, some lux, ptp in some yonex, rpm blast in some aero's.

A LOT of it depends on whether the player is getting a player package from a manufacturer. Especially at D2 and below

Even within D1, there is going to be a lot of variation between the have and have-nots. If scanning across the entire D1, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Solinco Tour Bite or Hyper G for strings and Babolat Aero for frame.

Here is a report from a stringer at 2015 NCAA finals. Babolat was used by more than 40% of players. Luxilon strings were used by more than 30% of players. I believe Solinco has focused recently on endorsing many college programs and usage might be higher now for strings.

Too bad they don’t mention the racquet and string models from each brand. I‘ve never been to a college tennis match, but have seen many college players practice or play Open UTR tournaments at my club. There are a lot of Pure Aeros, Pure Strikes, Blades, ProStaffs and Prestiges - with women, you see a few more Pure Drives and Yonex VCores with less ProStaffs and Prestiges. You also see a lot of the distinctive green HyperG strings which are easy to spot.

Wilson Blade both patterns, Babolat Aeros and Pure Drives, Yonex Ezone 98 men's side, Ezone 100 women's side, vcore 98 men's side, Vcore 100 women's side, Speed MP, Radical MP for rackets.

Strings: Alu power/ Alu rough, RPM, Hurricane, Polytour pro, hyperG, Tourbite, 4G, Element, Black code

My son plays college. When I watch, must of what I see are Blades, Strikes, Aeros, Vcores, starting to see some Percepts. Strings mostly Hyper G, Tour Bite, other usual suspects. My son uses Vcore95s, strings currently under review. He currently has KPro in them, which is surprisingly good.

Thank's you for your answers. Interesting, a lot of Pure Aero and Blade. When you write Aero, you mean the PA98 or VS or the "classic" PA 100 ?

Percept (1)
VCore Pro (2)
Pure Strike (1)
Pure Aero VS (1)
Pure Aero (1)

Speed (1)

Women’s:
Speed (2)

I don't remember where I saw it, but I remember that Solinco Tour Bites are very popular with D1 men.

I recently switched from those to Wasabi Pros (not that I'm anywhere near a D1 guy). But I like my top spin.

This thread is wildly anecdotal.
SC Men:
Dunlop F Tour 3.0
Ezone 98
Blade 98 16X19
Radical MP x2
TF 40 305 16x19
Vcore 98

SC Women:
Aero 100
Ezone 100 x 2
Ultra 100
Speed MP
Pure Drive 100
T-Fight 295

I can go back at least 4 years on those. I strung a lot of college rackets in the 10 years I did it. While Anecdotal, I know what I was seeing and what I strung.

I'm curious: how common was it for players to add weight to these frames?

If they're at a power 5 school, typically they are weighted to at a minimum match. SC has been doing it for at least 6-7 years. I've been doing it for the teams for the last 4 years. There's another guy that travels around and makes campus visits to do customization for a lot of power 5 schools. Last time I talked to him about it probably 18 months ago he was customizing for 60 teams between men's and women's.
