Most Weeks as Number 1 - The Only Conclusive Proof of Consistency

Now do 3 slams per year.

3 Majors per year is certainly an amazing accomplishment, but I don't think it has much bearing on consistency.

In fact, if we're going apples to apples, it would be the opposite, right? Assume Player A and Player B both have 9 Majors. Player A wins 1 a year for 9 straight years. Player B wins 3 Majors, then another 3 Majors 3 years later, and then another 3 Majors 3 years later. Player A is much more consistent, right?

I think we all know why you won't do it.

When Connors reached 250 weeks in 1979, an OE record at that time, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic were years away from even being born. Sampras was 8 years old. When Lendl reached 270 weeks in 1990, Djokovic and Nadal were 3 and 4 years old. Federer was 8. Just to put things a little into perspective. Djokovic's successor to that record may not even be born yet.

Consistency? Thy name is Novak.

Greatly aided of course by consistently good health and fitness. He is the only current #1 ranked player yet to suffer from any age-related or potentially career-threatening injuries of any kind.

Nadal has the most slams while Djokovic is missing slams due to his anti vaxxer status. We all knows Nadal has overtaken the anti vaxxer. Which country will ban Novak next? Lmao.

Djokovic owns the Slam in your country. No one will beat his record while you are alive, 6 Wimbledons, 2 RGs while Nadal was playing, triple USO crowns, and #1 and Masters goat. He can miss Slams the rest of his life and his career is still the most impressive. Lay down and weep. Lol

Sorry to tell you, but...none will as all of them opened up, and US most likely will open up by the USO.
That proves Australian government to be alone with this....(just like the Brits with this whole Russian players fiasco).
As for Novak, his choice not to get vaccinated and he paid for it.

Also, anti-vaxxers tell others that vaccines are bad and to stay away from them. Just like the church freaks try to sell me on their fairytales...
I don't recall Novak ever talking against vaccination but simply stating that is his own choice

Thanks you didn’t answer any of my points. Try again next time?

"Weeks" isn't even a real stat.
No other sports has a "weeks" stat.
Its bunch of rubbish, and only exists because Federer couldn't match the Sampras year-end-#1 record.
Most of the "weeks" probably aren't even tennis-playing weeks.
Not all years (or weeks, for that matter) are made equal. A few of Sampras' YE #1 were held by the skin of his teeth points-wise, while Fed had a sizable margin over the #2 player

You've found a stat which is convenient for you just to say that Nadal is bad. You're a Nadal hater at this point. You hate Nadal more than you like your favourite player.
Maybe if Nadal played more... oh yeah he was always planning injury breaks.
Describes perfectly his Slam h2h records too.

Year End #1 is a stronger indicator of consistency and dominance than weeks as #1.
One is January 1 - December 31 52 weeks cumulative points, the other is current date 52 weeks cumulative points.

Why do you believe first one is a stronger indicator on consistency???

Also as we all know this year Novak Djokovic who has accumulated more than 15 weeks at number at 1 has been the most consistent player and thus it supports the OP's claim or does it lol. I mean these Novak fans are a bunch of 12 year old for whom tennis started in 2011 LOL
Sigh, the number 1 ranking is based on what happened in the prior 52 weeks.

are there still posters that don’t grasp this?

The most relevant stat of consistency and one that will not be broken for decades

Enough said

Djokovic - 368
Federer - 310
Sampras - 286
Lendl - 270
Connors - 368
Nadal - 209
If we’re talking stats, (and I don’t think Stats alone prove the GOAT), but if we’re talking stats…

There’s one stat regarded above all others and everyone knows what it is.

And it’s not this.

I don’t believe in GOATs and I think all Big 3 have roughly equal results.

but if you are going to compare tennis players across time then really the only stat you can use for that is time as number 1

The slam race is a modern invention and wasn’t really an issue for most of tennis history

And there’s a good chance that slams will change again, in importance or structure

But however tennis evolves there will always be some player Who is the best in the world and that you can compare

The most drastic change the slams can make is convert to BO3. In that case, throw every stat out the window because those slams will be worthless.

I've been reading this board for years and one thing has been made perfectly clear. The three greatest players of all time all played during the weakest era in the history of tennis. So, their 887 combined weeks (17 years!) at #1 merely enforces their consistent weakness.

He didn‘t “find a stat” after digging and digging, but rather one that tennis players themselves place a great deal of weight on, i.e., their ranking. Both Djokovic and Federer have spent much more time at #1 than Nadal and that can’t be hand waved away.

But don’t the weeks work the same for every tennis player? I’m confused how a week only benefits Novak.

Djokovic has spent a combined total of 3+ years more than Nadal as being the most consistent player ever

Excluding clay pusher event which barely last months of the ATP calendar - this proved beyond all reasonable doubt who the more complete player ever is
Why would you conveniently exclude clay season!?

Or their opponents.

it doesn’t really tell us about the weakness of the big 3. They would have to play other ATGs from other eras.

Yes but then how is it "the only conclusive proof of consistency" when you can have 15 weeks at number 1 without any consistency.
