Motion Dif. for flat and kick??

I normally have a kick serve for both 1st and 2nd services, but i want to add more power by hitting flatter for the first. Question is: Do i change my motion to serve flat as compared to kick? or is it just a difference in toss position and contact point?

Yes Contact point and toss i fell that for a full speed flat serve i change to Eastern FH as i feel i can hit it faster with that

My flat and kick serves are very different, different motion, grip, toss, etc. My slice is like my flat but with different grip and wrist motion but otherwise toss and swing are about the same.

The motion is slightly different but as you get more advanced you want the same motion with a slight variation.. makes reading the serve very tough!

What bad information You serve with a continental grip or eastern backhand toss more in front for a flat serve. This comes from the Jim Jensen serve video one of the best information I have seen on serving. Jim says serving with a eastern FH gives you less power control spin.

for me... i use a semiwestern backhand grip for serves, so im quite different. but i find the that it forces me to have more rotation and so more power. but try to throw the ball in front of you a little bit and jump into the serve, not many people do that... so people have different ways. I try to serve my flat serves kinda like andy roddick, I use a lot of my leg to launch into the serve to create power. and followthrough is important on flat serves too.

You don't have to vary your ball toss at all. If you have developed great control of you leg drive / body rotation / forearm / wrist..... just concentrate on where you need to hit the ball... through it... or brushing to get the spin and direction you want.

This is done by how much you drive your legs and body weight into or over the ball... also how your forearm/wrist rotates into the ball when serving.
