Edit: the original news got Andreev and Moutet mixed up, so I edited it. They thought Moutet beat Andreev (actually Andreev beat Moutet) and it was Andreev who bumped his chest onto Moutet shoulder.. Looked like Andreev (black and white shirt) approached Moutet (green shirt) with angry mood.

There were ugly scenes at the ATP Challenger event in Orleans, France when Corentin Moutet and Adrian Andreev came to blows after their match.

Wildcard Andreev defeated top seed Moutet 2-6 7-6 7-6 in a hardfought round of 16 clash.
But when they approached the net afterwards, Andreev slapped Moutet’s palm quite hard.

Andreev then bumped his chest onto the Frenchman’s shoulder on purpose and the tension quickly escalated.

In response, Moutet shoved Andreev hard and the pair looked ready to fight each other there and then as they banged arms and Andreev glanced Moutet with his racquet.

But the umpire raced down from his chair to separate the two players and diffuse the situation.

The ugly confrontation took the tennis world by surprise and pundits agreed it was a bad look for the game.

Tennis writer Musab Abid said: “Wow. That is properly embarrassing behaviour from Corentin Moutet and Adrian Andreev.”

Sky Sports journalist Angelo Mangiante said: “Adrian Andreev and Corentin Moutet. This is not tennis.”

On Instagram afterwards, Moutet said he was aggravated by Andreev and had every right to retaliate.

“I wish to make no apologies for what happened late in the game,” he wrote.

“When a player says ‘f*** you’, twice while looking at me in the eye, I can’t help but make him understand in my own way that is not done.

The World No. 64 also criticised the French crowd for applauding Andreev and even claimed his opponent wanted to resume hostilities off court.

“You (the crowd) applauded the player at the end of the match,” Moutet continued.

“Maybe, for you these are acceptable things. For me, no. In any case, he threatened me and asked me to wait at the exit of the court which I obviously did.

“I had trouble finding him for 10 minutes. Indeed, he was hidden on the other side by 6 security people.

“I heard your threats so when you get out of the room where they hid you, I’ll be happy to see you carry them out. So, I’m waiting impatiently, we can talk calmly.”

It’s not the first time Moutet has been caught up in controversy on the court this year.

At the Adelaide International in January, the 23-year-old was disqualified for swearing at the chair umpire after he lost the second set of his second round match against Laslo Djere.

Then I guess it is acceptable thing for him. Or maybe just OK when he is cursing the umpire out. I say let the umpire take him out!

I should say:
About time.
Tennis needs a bit of well placed spice.
Obviously I don’t mean that players should be trading punches all over the court, but some mean rivalries, especially in the top 10, would make for great entertainment post Big 3.

But this one makes no sense. There's no build-up, there's no promo, there's no spice, no pre-existing animosity or attraction. It's just some coward loser who wants to fight people like a bully yet keeps playing challengers because he lacks the skills to play at higher levels.

Same thing can't be said about Kyrgios.

No, by all means. I agree this one is an atrocity.
I just took the opportunity to make a point, despite it not being a necessarily good example.

This is Zverev and Kyrgios’ fault for being absolute weapons and doing whatever they want, so now every ATP pro thinks they can do what they want, even if they’re like 300 itw.

Mr Moutet is juggling thug life with being a 5’ French tennis player. It’s hard not to smile at the obvious incongruities here.

It’s a shame little Denis Shapovalov wasn’t there as well. He could have been first to jump if an actual fight had started o_O

Is Tennis heading towards the the road of WWE ? Would be fun to see Players trash talk before matches with mikes, sometimes come to blows, have promos where Kyrgios and Zverev types come and attack other players verbally, then someone else responding,...
The matches in "stand your ground" states could get a little heated with open carry for guns. Tennis players with guns.

Best weapon to bring to a tennis court? Rilfe, pistol, or AK?

Bulletproof vest? or will it be too heavy and slow you down too much?

Moutet's such a coward. Starting shaite and acting like he was the victim all along

Moutet is an absolute dirtbag of a human who also tried to start an altercation with Dan Evans a year ago.
Moutet is (one of) the worst representatives of a group of dirty guys to which also belong Evans and Andreev among others.

I watched Moutet quality at the U.S. Open. He has a crazed look in his eyes. Granted, as a player he fights hard and it pays off in victories. But, there is something about his personality that is scary. I know that no tennis pro likes to lose especially in a 3rd set tiebreak. But . . . the importance of professionalism is paramount. And, that applies to both players in this case.

At first I was unsure who started (movement) the altercation at the net, aka body tackle, but looking at the video in slomo, it seems pretty clear Moutet starts the movement, and Andreev reacts (by leaning up into the slam), looking at the footwork :)

But that warm up footage is really bad imo, and even worse. That’s being totally unprofessional and an a-hole. The ump should penalize that behavior as well, using CCV.
